Juuriltaan amerikkalaisesta hip hop – kulttuuristakin on viime vuosina kasvanut globaali nuorisokulttuuri, joka on saavuttanut pysyvän aseman Suomessa. Tämän tutkimuksen tarkoituksena on selvittää, miten hip hop –identiteetti rakentuu suomalaisissa rap–lyriikoissa. Päätavoitteena on tutkia, millainen hip hop –identiteetti muodostuu lyriikoiden englannin kielen ja kielten sekoittumisen (suomi ja englanti) kautta. Tutkimuksen aineistona käytetään kolmen eri hip hop –artistin ja – ryhmän (Cheek, Sere & SP ja Kemmuru) lyriikoita 2000-luvulta. Niiden pääkieli on suomi, mutta kaikissa kappaleissa on myös englanninkielisiä elementtejä. Sanojen tarkkojen alkuperien sekä muun tiedon selvittämiseksi olen tarvittaessa konsultoinut itse artisteja. Analyysissä identiteetin käsitetään rakentuvan osaltaan kielen avulla. Identiteetti rakentuu diskursseissa, ja se on muuttuva ja monitahoinen. Aineiston analyysissä kielenvaihtelu ymmärretään joko a) kielten sekoittumisena, josta syntyy kokonaan uusi kieli/kielellinen tyyli tai b) koodinvaihtona, joka on merkityksellistä diskurssin paikallisella tasolla. Tulokset osoittavat, että rap–lyriikoissa pikemminkin sekoitetaan suomen ja englannin kieltä (language mixing) kuin vaihdetaan koodia. Näin ollen muodostuu uusi, suomalaisille rap–lyriikoille ominainen kieli ja tyyli. Usein hip hop -englannin sanoja ja fraaseja taivutetaan suomen ortografian, morfologian tai molempien mukaan. Nick Oliveri says by way of acknowledging his fourth Australian tour in eight months. After two solo Death Acoustic tours and one playing his beloved bass for punk-rock stalwarts the Dwarves, Oliveri is back in town not just to pummel Australian eardrums with selections from Time to Destroy , the coming album from his hard-rocking main group, Mondo Generator, but also to pick up his new band mates for their world tour, which started in Geelong on the day of this interview last week. ''The band is actually an all-Aussie band now,'' he says, talking a mile a minute as he waits to meet them at Sydney Airport. ''For this tour, it's gonna be [Wollongong's] Hy-Test guys Luke and Curley playing guitars and this guy Josh - he goes by [the name] Stooks - he plays drums in a band called Extortion from WA.'' Mondo Generator has been through numerous line-ups since its inception in the late '90s but the reason for the latest one isn't as dramatic as the mother of all falling-outs that caused Oliveri's forced departure from Queens of the Stone Age in 2004. ''I have this drummer, Hoss, who's like my partner in the band,'' Oliveri says. ''He's having a baby with his wife - which is totally cool - and he's bowing out of this tour. -

Some would take the view that eclecticism, the free combination of influences and stylistic trends, is an embarrassing or even a reprehensible quality. But Kuusisto allows everything he has heard and assimilated to feature in his com positions, re - marking: ‘I forgive myself for writing the sort of music that I myself like.’ Kuusisto (b. 1933) studied composition, for instance under Aarre Merikanto, but for a long time he did not particularly regard himself as a composer. Instead, he was a craftsman who always wrote music for some specific occasion: when working for the theatre he wrote stage music, as an organist he wrote liturgical compositions and when he was a choral conductor he wrote and arranged choral pieces.
