The Global Oil and Gas Markets and the Iranian Economy Thursday 18 June 2015 4:30-6:30pm Winstanley Lecture Theatre, Trinity College, Cambridge As negotiations between Iran and the P5+1 group over Iran’s nuclear programme enter its final stages, important questions loom over the impact of any such potential deal on the Iranian economy and its implications for the global oil and gas markets, where Iran is a big player accounting for the world’s fourth largest reserves of crude oil and the second largest for gas. To address these and other topical issues, the International Iranian Economic Association (IIEA) is pleased to announce two presentations at Trinity College, University of Cambridge followed by a Q&A session. To register, please send an email to Valentina Zanardi [[email protected]] HE Seyed Mohammed Hossein Adeli, is an economist, diplomat and academic with extensive government and private sector experience in energy, economics, international relations and diplomacy. He has a Ph.D. in Business Administration and a Ph.D. in Economics. He has held Government positions in Iran such as Advisor to the Minister of Oil on International Affairs, Deputy Foreign Minister for Economic and Energy Affairs, Governor of Central Bank, Advisor to President of the Islamic Republic of Iran as well as Iranian Ambassador to the Japan, Canada and the United Kingdom. Dr. Adeli has been instrumental in economic reforms after the war in Iran. He has also served as the Chief negotiator of Iran-Pakistan-India gas pipeline, Iran-Europe gas cooperation and the Iran- Armenia gas pipeline as well as in common offshore gas fields with Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. He was also Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Iranian Gas Export Company. After Government service, he established a non-Governmental Think Tank, “Ravand Institute for Economic and International Studies” from 2005-2013-the first private Think Tank of Iran, focusing on economics, energy, international studies and environment, working closely with international Oil companies, the World Economic Forum and other similar high-level international Think Tank and private sector. Dr. Adeli assumed office as Secretary General of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum on January 1st, 2014 for a period of two years in accordance with the Statute. Dr. Hashem Pesaran received his Ph.D. in Economics from Cambridge University. He is currently the John Elliot Distinguished Chair and Professor of Economics at USC, the director of the USC Dornsife Institute for New Economic Thinking, and the director of the Centre for Applied Financial Economics at USC. He is also a Fellow of Trinity College, and an Emeritus Professor of Economics at Cambridge University. Dr. Pesaran is a Fellow of the British Academy and a Fellow of the Econometric Society, and he has been the director of the Economic Research Department of the Central Bank of Iran, and a member World Bank's Council of Advisers for the Middle East and North Africa. He is currently the President of the International Iranian Economic Association, and Chair of the Board of Directors of the International Association for Applied Econometrics. He has over 200 publications in leading scientific journals in the areas of econometrics, empirical macroeconomics and the Iranian economy, and is an expert in the economics of Oil and the Middle East. Other Information The Winstanley Lecture Theatre is a fully-equipped audio-visual theatre, with seating for up to 150 people. To reach it, turn into Whewell's Court from Trinity Street. Turn right immediately after the first arch and climb the stone stairs. At the top of the stairs, follow the path round the ziggurat-like Wolfson building, leaving it to your left.
