4 Imagine a Saturday evening show unlike any other: a mixture of quiz, game and panel show. But in a whole lot of humour and related everything to one topic: your home country. What you end up with might be something like: Ik Hou Van Holland. The show is presented by Linda de Mol, a celebrity in the Netherlands who is also popular in Germany due to Traumhochzeit and other shows broadcast on RTL Television. “You need a strong host for this kind of show,” says Erland Galjaard, Programme Director at RTL 4. “And we got one in Linda.” She is supported by two fellow hosts: Jeroen van Koningsbrugge and Guus Meeuwis who head the two panels. Team Jeroen and Team Guus consist of three Dutch celebrities from different generations – one in their twenties, one in their thirties and one in their forties – who each compete against one another in various kinds of games.

“These games are mostly knowledge-based,” explains Galjaard. “Like ‘Spelling’ for example, which can turn out to be quite hilarious when a celebrity does not know exactly how a word is spelled.” Other games include questions about famous television moments or about Dutch history.

Galjaard explains: “The twist is: Everything is Erland Galjaard, Programme Director of RTL 4 related to the Netherlands. 6 UNTER UNS LAUNCHES NEW TRANSMEDIA WEB SERIES Grundy UFA / RTL Interactive

With the fi ve-part web series Des Jägers Herz Grundy UFA and RTL Interactive set out to show how the telling of stories can successfully be interwoven between internet and television. Germany – 12 October 2012

Stefan Franz playing Rolf Jäger

The web series Des Jägers Herz, produced by Grundy UFA’s Digital Drama department, runs from 22 October 2012 for a period of fi ve weeks. In parallel to the Unter Uns storylines on TV the fi ve-part web format can be seen exclusively on RTL.de. However, the episodes will not only be a big deal on the internet – from mid-April 2013, fans of the series can look forward to Des Jägers Herz being a key element of the Unter Uns storyline on TV. Grundy UFA Digital Drama and RTL Interactive are thereby creating a series in which parallel web and TV storylines dovetail with each other.

Guido Reinhardt, CCO and Producer at Grundy UFA: “Des Jägers Herz is a small masterpiece of transmedia storytelling: the concept of an exclusive internet narrative strand that becomes a central element in the storyline of the TV series Unter Uns breaks down media boundaries and points the way to where serial storytelling is headed.”

7 Rolf Jäger in Des Jägers Herz

Matthias Büchs, Head of Online/Mobile/Teletext at RTL Interactive: “On linear TV, our daily series tackle topics for an audience of millions every day. And we regularly extend the formats on our digital platforms with separate storylines. This exciting new series will have the audience following the format not only on their TV screens, but also on the internet.”

The web series follows the fate of Rolf Jäger who, after murdering the policewoman Rebecca Mattern in the series, records his emotions ranging from anger, loneliness and deliriousness via webcam from his place of exile in South American. Over fi ve episodes, users and viewers are given an in-depth look into Rolf’s states of mind and his inner turmoil in his hideout. We only fi nd out more information about Rolf’s fate during the Unter Uns anniversary week, broadcast on RTL Television from 26 November 2012.

The fi ve episodes of Des Jägers Herz can be watched online every Monday on RTL.de from 22 October 2012 – with the exception of the fi fth episode, which will be available on Friday 23 November. The Des Jägers Herz episodes on RTL.de will be announced in each preceding TV broadcast of Unter Uns.

8 “IN TELEVISION, WE MUSTN’T BE PRESUMPTUOUS” Groupe M6 / RTL Radio

Groupe M6 CEO Nicolas de Tavernost was Yves Calvi’s guest on RTL Radio. A variety of subjects were discussed, including the channels’ ratings for the start of the new season and the launch of D8. France – 15 October 2012

“A good season debut for M6, W9 and the other channels. Things are going well, but it’s an everyday battle,” says Nicolas de Tavernost, when asked about the ratings for the month of September – the best season debut since 2006. Host Yves Calvi also asked him if the goal for M6 – the only major channel to increase its ratings – is to beat TF1. “Our goal is to move closer as quickly as possible, and Nonce Paolini knows I often say this. When we’re both leaders in prime time, I don’t get the impression he’s all that pleased. It’s a fair competition, in which we’re moving ahead,” de Tavernost explains. “Our project is not Nicolas de Tavernost to move ahead of TF1, because that would be presumptuous. And in television, we mustn’t be presumptuous, or we risk crashing. For a long time, we were the little channel. Now we estimate that – especially in prime time and access prime time – we can challenge TF1. But it will be very diffi cult to move ahead of it, that’s for sure.”

In response to the question about whether the launch of D8 annoys Mr. de Tavernost, he says, “One must always respect one’s competitors, and we respect the Canal Plus group. It almost annoyed me. We’re in fairly good spirits about it, considering the Berlusconian launch that we witnessed, the extraordinary promise to create a major channel, and the results. We knew they’d take La Nouvelle Star if we didn’t renew it. We decided not to renew it. It’s time to move on to something else.”

In conclusion, the CEO expressed his opinion on the extension of the licence fee to secondary residences: “It’s a little bizarre. The fee is increasing for all of the French, who don’t have a choice. It would have been fairer to raise the VAT on pay television, and not to raise – or even to lower – the licence fee on free television. It’s a political decision that I fi nd extremely curious, especially if this money is also used to bring in programmes that compete unfairly with the other channels.”
