PIA SA Planning of Excellence Awards 2009 – Winners
The 2009 Awards for Planning Excellence were held at Adelaide Pavilion on Friday 6 November 2009
The Hon Paul Holloway, Minister for Urban Development and Planning, has chosen to present the 2009 Award for Planning Excellence to:
The Rundle Project (Integrated Public Arts Masterplan) WAX Design; Tanya Court; SPUD; Naomi Horridge
The Minister stated:
“The Rundle Project 's success in winning this year's Minister’s Award is due to the collaborative approach brought to developing this Masterplan. It is also reflects the importance of using planning to deal not only with land-use issues and implications, but also to develop a urban design framework that encourages interesting places that stimulate thinking, invite interaction and provide for contemplation. Fostering better urban design will be one of the key outcomes of the State Government's 30-Year Plan for Greater Adelaide, so it is not only fitting but timely that the Rundle Project should be the recipient of this year's Minister's Award.”
The 2009 Awards for Planning Excellence President’s Award was awarded to:
Brahma Green: Driving Housing Affordability in the City of Salisbury City of Salisbury; Home Start Finance: McCracken Homes: Affordable Housing and Asset Strategy Unit
PIA SA President MS Angela Hazebroek stated:
“This project represents a high degree of innovation in establishing sustainable innovation in establishing sustainable mechanisms for the provision of affordable housing. The partnership approach resulted in creative responses to financing, creating home owner equity and an ongoing return to Council over the life of the development. The City of Salisbury undertook extensive and vigorous research to identify pragmatic solutions to legal and financial requirements. The dwellings have also been designed to reduce energy consumption and remain affordable over their life time. The model developed by the project partners will be of great interest to other Councils seeking to facilitate housing affordability. The City of Salisbury has once again demonstrated outstanding leadership in its commitment to social inclusion, housing affordability and sustainable design.”
A Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Professor Stephen Hamnett LFPIA for his career Hamnett outstanding contribution to the planning profession and in particular the professional body, the Planning Institute of Australia.
