November 2016 Major traffic changes at Forty Bends, River Lett to Carol Drive, and Mount Victoria village from 6am on Friday 18 November The Australian and NSW governments are undertaking a $250 million upgrade package on the Great Western Highway between Katoomba and Lithgow to improve traffic flow, safety and travel conditions. Roads and Maritime Services is continuing to deliver this important project which includes 14 kilometres of the Great Western Highway from Hartley Valley to Forty Bends and 1.6 kilometres of the Great Western Highway through Mount Victoria village. Major traffic change at Forty Bends on Friday 18 November As part of the work at Forty Bends, we will be changing the traffic arrangements around three kilometres east of Lithgow on the Great Western Highway on Friday 18 November. Traffic will be moved onto part of the newly constructed concrete section of the Great Western Highway that passes over the Whites Creek Arch. Traffic will flow in each direction using a single lane each. To prepare for the traffic switch, we will carry out one shift of night work on Thursday 17 November, weather permitting. The work will include installing new line marking, electronic message signs and road work advisory signs to notify motorists of the changed traffic arrangements and installing traffic barriers to direct motorists onto the new section of road. Our working hours will be from 6pm and 6am. The traffic changes will take effect from 6am Friday 18 November, weather permitting. We have included a project map Hartley Valley to Forty Bends to show the section where the traffic changes will take place and a detailed map to describe the changed traffic arrangements.
