Gordon Millar had already been diagnosed with cancer and the Trust had been established to continue his project of consolidating and reconstructing the castle within a setting free from housing estates. No funding was available and the author spent his summer holidays over the next four years with a small band of volunteers at the castle. Illus 1: Plan of the excavated features in and around the courtyard. 3 Falkirk Archaeological Report The 1998 season saw the investigation of the room east of the entrance pend (Room 5/6) and the well room (Room 7). Unfortunately Gordon died before work began. In 1999 the East Wing was explored and a small trench pushed out to the east. In the 2000 season the rooms west of the pend were excavated, along with part of the courtyard. The final year, 2001, was designed to explain the presence of a strange break in the masonry of the external wall of the West Wing near its northern end. -

PE1102/F WRITTEN SUBMISSION FROM FALKIRK COUNCIL – PETITION PE1102 1. Background 1.1 Falkirk Council, like many local authorities, is strongly opposed to the closure of post offices in the Falkirk Council area. The Council recognises the important social function that post offices have, and that for many individuals in our communities, the post office functions as the main village or local shop. These facilities are used largely by elderly people, people with young children and those with mobility problems to purchase essential items. 1.2 The Council has for a number of years used post offices to provide services such as rent collection etc. Since 1979, Falkirk Council has supported the local area Post Office Network through the facility for tenants to make payment of rent at post offices. This was extended to include council tax payments in 1996. Our contract is with the Alliance & Leicester. Payments are made through a service known as 'BillPay'. Payments are made using plastic payment cards issued by Falkirk Council which can be used to pay rent and/or council tax at the Council's One-Stop-Shops and any post office in the UK. This method of payment is 1 of 7 options that are available to our customers. 1.3 As a result of the development of more efficient and convenient methods of payment, e.g. by Direct Debit, via the Web and by telephone, and the reduction in the Council's housing stock through the right to buy, the number of payment transactions made at post offices has reduced year on year over the past 10 to 15 years. -

Insight 2006 Population estimates for settlements and wards Information February 2008 This Insight contains the latest estimates of the population of settlements and wards within Falkirk Council area. These update the 2005 figures published in April 2007. The total population of the Council area is 149,680. Introduction Table 2: Settlement population estimates 2006 Settlement Population This Insight contains the latest (2006) estimates of Airth 1,763 the total population of each of the settlements and Allandale 271 wards in Falkirk Council area by the R & I Unit of Avonbridge 606 Corporate & Commercial Services. Telephone 01324 504950 e-mail [email protected] Report Progress Report 2010 Reference Date July 2010 2 Progress Report - 2010 Falkirk Council - Scotland July 2010 Executive Summary A review of the Council’s monitoring data for 2009 shows that the 15-minute objective continues to be breached in the Grangemouth AQMA. In 2009 the Grangemouth Moray site recorded 65 exceedances. This is greater than the 35 allowed by the objective. All SO 2 monitors outside the AQMA met the 15-minute objective, with all sites meeting the hourly and daily SO 2 objectives. A breach of the 2010 annual PM 10 objective was recorded at the Falkirk West Bridge St site in 2009. This result will be used in the Falkirk Town Centre Further Assessment. Therefore the Council will wait for this report to be completed before considering whether to adjust the current AQMA. Since the 2009 USA the Council has declared three AQMAs for NO 2, two are in Falkirk Town Centre and one in the Haggs and Banknock area. In addition, the Banknock area near Cowdenhill Quarry remains subject to a Detailed Assessment for PM 10 . An Action Plan update for the Grangemouth AQMA is given. The Council continues to work on the measures outlined in the plan. In addition, a statement by INEOS about their tail gas treatment and other SO 2 emission reduction work is also included in this report.
