Program Guide on the Cover January – May 2018 PROGRAM GUIDE ON THE COVER THE JCC HAS CHANGED MY LIFE! The JCC has changed my life in a positive way since joining in January 2017. Suzan assisted me when I first joined and has helped me repeatedly in learning the weight equipment and is always so accommodating whenever I have a question. I thoroughly enjoyed participating in the Group Exercise classes, especially Judy’s classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Judy is the very best in teaching style and personality. We all love her so much and get so much out of her classes. I wish she could teach more classes. I also want to give kudos to Alycia’s “Dance Fitness” class. Alycia is great in both her personality and teaching style. The JCC is family to me and these gals contributed to my well-being and I look forward to every single week of participating. When I first started in January, I was diagnosed with mild arthritis in my shoulder and upper arms. It has totally disappeared and I am no longer in discomfort! I have also lost weight and beginning to tone my muscles! Thank you! - Josie Messina 13009 Community Campus Drive 522 North Howard Avenue Tampa, Florida 33625 Tampa, Florida 33606 813.264.9000 813.575.5900 [email protected] [email protected] www.JCCCohnCampus.com www.BryanGlazerFamilyJCC.com 2 www.JCCCohnCampus.com • www.BryanGlazerFamilyJCC.com WELCOME WHAT'S INSIDE • Membership.......................................................................5 • Aquatics..............................................................................6 • Fitness................................................................................11 • Sports+ Rec.....................................................................13 • Health + Wellness..........................................................15 • Arts + Culture.................................................................20 • Preschool..........................................................................23 • Children + Families.......................................................23 • Tweens + Teens..............................................................28 • Young Adults...................................................................30 • Active Adults...................................................................33 • Community Programs...................................................38 • Visual Arts.......................................................................39 • Contact Us........................................................................43 Throughout the program guide, you will find our logos to indicate the location of the event or program unless otherwise noted. Research Online is the open access institutional repository for the University of Wollongong. For further information contact the UOW Library: [email protected] How the roles of advertising merely appear to have changed Abstract This article is a commentary on the theme of the 2012 ICORIA Conference held in Stockholm, which was about 'the changing role of advertising'. We propose that the role of advertising has not changed. the role of advertising has always been, and will continue to be, to sell more of the branded product or service or to achieve a higher price that consumers are willing to pay than would obtain in the absence of advertising. What has changed in recent years is the notable worsening of the academic-practitioner divide, which has seen academic advertising researchers pursuing increasingly unrealistic laboratory studies, textbook writers continuing to ignore practitioners' research appearing in trade publications and practitioner-oriented journals, and practitioners peeling off into high-sounding but meaningless jargon. also evident is the tendency to regard the new electronic media as requiring a new model of how advertising communicates and persuades, which, as the authors' textbooks explain, is sheer nonsense and contrary to the goal of integrated marketing.
