Born in Frederickstad, Norway, Henry Larsen immigrated to Canada in Coming Soon 1927 and joined the Royal Canadian Mounted Police a year later. Serving on the St. Roch as a mate and eventually as captain, the ship was tasked with supplying remote northern outposts. In 1940 Larsen captained the St. Roch as it became the second vessel to cross Northwest Passage, and the first to do so from west to east. This accomplishment was recognized when Larsen and his crew were awarded the Polar Medal in 1942 by King George VI. VESSEL IMAGES.
