3 SCOPUS REDESIGN Author Profile page (launched in Q3, 2020)

Objectives: 1. Easier to scan and clearer call-to-actions 2. Drive users to the Author Feedback Wizard to improve our overall data quality 3. Strengthen authority perception of Scopus and Author Profiles by new, solid UI design

4 What, why, which ?

• Precedes publication in a peer-reviewed journal. What are • Deposited at servers. preprints? • Different than Articles-in-Press

• Assess if other researchers are doing cutting edge, innovative research, • Read or assess another researcher’s most recent work Why preprints? • A more comprehensive portfolio overview • Assess funding applications, monitor project progress and demonstrate impact

Which preprints? SCOPUS REDESIGN Preprints on Author Profile page (launched in Q4)

Objectives: 1. Further strengthening Scopus’ best-in-class author profiles 2. Provide a more holistic view of a researcher’s research activity − Recent pre-prints as an indicator of what a researcher is currently working on − In some disciplines pre-prints is the primary publication outlet How do pre-prints appear?

• Preprints will only be made available for authors that already have a profile in Scopus

• Clearly separated from the curated published content.

• Initially no metrics and no citations to and from the preprints and links with the final version of the article will be captured.

• Phase I (Q4/20): 0.6M preprints from last 3 years in ArXiv, BioRxiv, ChemRxiv is estimated to enrich >1M author profiles.

• Phase II (Q1/21): 0.25M pre-prints in SSRN will increase the number of enriched author profiles to 1.4M SCOPUS REDESIGN Awarded Grants on Author Profile page (Q2, 2021)

Objectives: 1. Further strengthening Scopus’ best-in-class author profiles 2. Provide a more holistic view of a researcher’s research activity − Recent awards as an early indication of what a researcher is working on − Indicates if researcher has been successful in applying for competitive funding

8 What else will we have for you this year?

9 in Scopus today

1. Scopus source of information for OA content is Unpaywall

2. Scopus today only tags “VOR freely available from the publisher” as OA. These include OA articles published in: 1. full OA journals 2. hybrid journals 3. open archive 4. promotional access

3. What is typically referred to as ‘Green OA’, where a version of the article is freely available from another platform than the publisher website is not tagged as ‘OA’ in Scopus | 11 More advanced OA filters for an enhanced reading experience

Proposed OA terms Definition Facets Information label Gold Gold (Open Access- Published version with Creative Commons only journal) license, available on publisher platform. Documents are in journals which only publish open access Hybrid Gold (hybrid Published version with Creative Commons Gold journal) license, available on publisher platform. Documents are in journals which provide authors the choice of publishing open access Bronze Other free-to-read Published version of record or manuscript at Publisher accepted for publication, for which the publisher has chosen to provide temporary or permanent free access. As these documents would normally only be available to subscribers, no Creative Commons license is attached. Green Free-to-read at Published version or manuscript accepted Repository for publication, available at repository. Documents may also be available gold or other free-to-read on the publisher platform UN Sustainable Development Goals

UN SDGs as predefined queries in Advanced Search

Complementing SDG presence in SciVal: • Query the “live” data set for most recent publications • User can edit the query if desired • Analyse SDG publication set using the Scopus filter and sorting options

13 Give those new users Scopus context….quickly! (Q4)

20 Scopus Views Count on abstract pages

What? • Indicating interest from the (Scopus) research community • Counting abstract views + links to full text • Early indication for impact

How and when? • Q4: on abstract page • Current year • Last full year • Last 10 years • H1: sortable on search results page, multiple year ranges
