SHADE FOR MULLER PARK PLAYGROUND I am very pleased to see families enjoying the shade created by new shade sails at the Muller Park playground. These shade sails were a much anticipated addition, though I’m sure more of you will be at the park once we get a break from these hot temperatures (I’m writing this in the midst of a few very warm days in mid-February). The Aboriginal colours of black, yellow and red used for the shade sails were selected with the project’s Kabi Kabi representative to tie in with the indigenous-inspired playground. RECREATIONAL PROJECT UPGRADES IN BLI BLI It’s been a busy time with capital projects in Bli Bli. There is new playground equipment too, at Casey Street Park and at Sam Bowda Park, as well as a new basketball half court in Whistler Street. There are also some improvements at Dunethin Rock, with a new shelter and revetment rock wall to make the bank more stable for fishing. The most recent upgrades are the picnic shelters at Muller Park. Work is underway to replace the two old timber shelters and, weather permitting, these should be installed by the time you’re reading this. This upgrade will also include concrete pathway access and a new water tap. STORY SEAT Last but not least, a new ‘story seat’ was installed at Muller Park in January as part of a region wide project by Sunshine Coast Council Libraries. It’s part of the First 5 Forever early childhood literacy program, which focuses on the importance developing early literacy skills in children under 5. Each of the seats feature artwork from a popular children’s picture book – and our Bli Bli seat features the story of Grug, a little character who grew from a Burrawang tree. It’s a great, quiet spot for you to be outdoors with your children for storytelling, active play, singing and reading. HAVE A COUNCIL ISSUE TO DISCUSS? My next Bli Bli ‘meet and greet’ session is on March 6 at 9-11am, in the usual spot outside the Bli Bli IGA.

As our life expectancy increases so too does the need to pay more 2 Kennedy Road, Bli Bli attention to our health. We want to enjoy those extra years! But did you know your pets can also look forward to living longer? Ph: 5448 5055 In the Surgery’s early days, providing care for a sick pet meant arranging couriers to deliver blood samples to the Laboratory in Brisbane. The types of tests were limited, and results could be several days in coming back. With advances in technology, we now have accurate diagnostic equipment in our clinic and the range of tests have expanded considerably. For sick pets, accurate and fast results allow the best treatment to begin straight away. But more than that, this means we can detect disease in apparently healthy animals before obvious signs appear. Regular blood testing can identify conditions that a physical exam cannot, allowing earlier intervention. This means more effective and affordable treatments with better outcomes. According to the Australian Veterinary Association (AVA) this proactive care gives pets the best chance of avoiding illness and living longer, happier lives. Weight management, vaccinations, special diets and personalised health plans are also confirmed to maximise your pets longevity and the quality of the time you spend together. If you would like to know more about helping your pets live longer, please call the friendly team at Bli Bli Veterinary Surgery on 5448 5055.
