South beach, Misool Optional activities at Misool Eco Resort:

Diving: Thanks to the extremely remote location, they are able to offer variety and quality live-aboard diving combined with all the comforts of a land-based holiday resort. Having explored over 60 dive-sites within a 1-hour radius of the resort, and there are many more waiting to be explored. There are over 25 world-class dive sites within a 15- minute radius of the resort, including Fiabacet, Boo, Yilliet, Wobbegong City, and Magic Mountain.

Snorkelling: The pristine state of the sea surrounding the resort island means that the reefs grow right up to the surface of the water, making them perfect for snorkelers as well as divers. The House Reef is particularly recommended for snorkelers, with fre- quent sightings of schooling horse-eyed jacks, gentle green turtles, hunting octopus, and huge schools of humphead parrotfish. There is also a good chance of spotting the newly discovered 'walking' Epaulette Shark - these incredible creatures are nocturnal predators and hunt in the shallow hard gardens on the House Reef. Toddling around inside the protected North Lagoon is also fantastic, with upwards of 15 baby black tip reef sharks often seen in the shallows.

Village Tour: The local villages, where most of the staff are from, are located about 1 hour and 15 minutes northwest of Misool Eco Resort. As a traditional Papuan village, much of the activity takes place out of doors. You can expect to see lots of friendly and curious faces, betel nuts drying on racks, dug-out canoes being built, nets being re- paired, goats, kittens, and children posing for photos. Don't forget your camera. Lamima Yacht Misool Eco Resort

Ancient Petroglyphs and Labyrinthine Lagoons: located about 1 hour and 20 minutes from the resort, the big island of Misool fractures into craggy shards of karst, cre- ating a wild labyrinth of turquoise lagoons dotted with small islands. The water is scattered with tiny mushroom-shaped outcroppings draped in pitcher-plants and wild orchids. We'll weave between the islands in search of ancient petroglyphs, estimated to be about 5,000 years old. You'll see ancient ritual images of dolphins, fish, human hands, and many other mysterious ones. Archaeologists speculate that the images were made as spiritual invoca- tions. On our way home, there's always the option to stop at a beach for a refreshing swim and possibly a snorkel.

Light Birdwatching Cruise: This cruise is best undertaken just before sunset. You’ll cir- cumnavigate round the resort island by boat, heading south from the jetty. The journey takes about 1-1.5 hours, and you’ll often see pairs of sulfur-crested cockatoos, hornbills, parrots, lories, sea eagles, brahminy kites, and kingfishers. Bring binoculars!

Mangroves and Deserted Beaches: Journey north-west by speedboat for about 20 minutes to an island called Sapenipnu, where the boat with be moored right into the shal- low mangroves. If you’re lucky, you will encounter a colony of roosting flying foxes, or fruit bats. Even though they're nocturnal, you'll hear their screeching and chattering from a long way off. Then carry on to a nearby beach for a short walk. Keep your eyes peeled for green turtle nests, monitor lizards, and nesting sea birds. The snorkeling on the surround- ing shallow reef is also fantastic!
