Human Mars Mission Architecture Plan to Settle the Red Planet with 1000 People Malaya Kumar Biswal M1, Vishnu S2, Devika S Kumar3, Sairam M4 Pondicherry University, Kalapet, Puducherry, India - 605 014 Abstract Exploration is one of the attentive endeavor to mankind and a strategy for evolution. We have been incessantly reconnoitering our planet and universe from Mesopotamian era to modern era. The progression of rocketry and planetary science in past century engendered a futuristic window to explore Mars which have been a source of inspiration to hundreds of astronomers and scientists. Globally, it invigorated space exploration agencies to make expedition for planetary exploration to Mars and Human Mars Missions. Scientists and engineers have portrayed numerous Human Mars Mission proposals and plans but currently the design reference mission 5.0 of NASA is the only mission under study. Here we propose a mission architecture for permanent Human Mars Settlement with 1000 peoples with multiple launch of sufficient cargoes and scientific instruments. Introduction: This paper focuses on design of Human Mars Mission with reference to the instructions by Mars Society. We proposed mission architecture for carrying 1000 peoples onboard spaceship (Marship). Overall mission architecture outline map and Human Mars Settlement Map is provided next to this page. We divided the whole mission architecture into three phases starting from orbital launch of launch vehicles and Mars colony establishment. We proposed novel habitat for protection during robust dust storms, various method to make the colony economically successful, minerals and their applications, administrative methods, water extraction, plantation, landing patterns, estimation of masses of food to be carried out and customizable system for re-use and recycling. -

Underground astronauts preparing for space 24 June 2016 The CAVES – Cooperative Adventure for Valuing and Exercising – course focuses on multicultural approaches to leadership, following orders, teamwork and decision-making. By the end, the astronauts have a better understanding of how they function in a multicultural team and what they are skilled at, as well as areas for self-improvement. "We are very pleased to include the first female astronaut and first 'taikonaut' in this CAVES course," says mission director Loredana Bessone, "creating an even better mix of cultures and experience to put the astronauts' behaviour to the test." The caving course recreates aspects of a space expedition with an international crew and has become an essential part of ESA's astronaut training. This year's participants are ESA astronaut Pedro Duque, NASA astronauts Jessica Meir and Richard Arnold, Japanese astronaut Aki Hoshide, Chinese astronaut Ye Guangfu and cosmonaut Sergei Korsakov. A Review of Alterations to the Brain During Spaceflight and the Potential
www.nature.com/npjmgrav REVIEW ARTICLE OPEN A review of alterations to the brain during spaceflight and the potential relevance to crew in long-duration space exploration ✉ Meaghan Roy-O’Reilly 1,2 , Ajitkumar Mulavara3 and Thomas Williams4 During spaceflight, the central nervous system (CNS) is exposed to a complex array of environmental stressors. However, the effects of long-duration spaceflight on the CNS and the resulting impact to crew health and operational performance remain largely unknown. In this review, we summarize the current knowledge regarding spaceflight-associated changes to the brain as measured by magnetic resonance imaging, particularly as they relate to mission duration. Numerous studies have reported macrostructural changes to the brain after spaceflight, including alterations in brain position, tissue volumes and cerebrospinal fluid distribution and dynamics. Changes in brain tissue microstructure and connectivity were also described, involving regions related to vestibular, cerebellar, visual, motor, somatosensory and cognitive function. Several alterations were also associated with exposure to analogs of spaceflight, providing evidence that brain changes likely result from cumulative exposure to multiple independent environmental stressors. Whereas several studies noted that changes to the brain become more pronounced with increasing mission duration, it remains unclear if these changes represent compensatory phenomena or maladaptive dysregulations. The dates represent two important events that opened up the exploration of Space; the launch of the first man- made satellite Sputnik-1 on 4 October 1957, and 10 October a decade later, when the treaty on the peaceful use and exploration of space was signed. During this week, events take place across the globe that range from conveying the broad range of benefits space activities provide to the public, to inspiring the next generation of scientists and explorers. In 2012 the UK Association for Science and Discovery Centres (ASDC) in partnership with the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) offered small grants to ASDC members to help them to celebrate World Space Week in their communities. These grants were again offered in 2013 to ASDC members to increase awareness of the celebration, with a strong focus on highlighting contemporary activities that the UK and Europe is involved with. It is widely accepted that space has the power to engage a broad range of audiences with all the sciences, a context that can bring many subjects to life. Space is an exciting topic that has the power to spark the imagination. From looking at what life on other planets might be like, and learning how our own solar system formed, to discovering the host of technological innovations inspired by space research. -
