Declaration of interests Members declared their interests, in accordance with the Resolution of the House of 13 July 1992 (see Appendix 1). 2. Committee working methods Ordered, That the public be admitted during the examination of witnesses unless the Committee orders otherwise. Resolved, That the Committee approves the use of electronic equipment by Members during public and private meetings, provided that they are used in accordance with the rules and customs of the House. 3. Future programme Resolved, That the Committee take oral evidence on the Building Schools for the Future programme and on the Department’s future capital spending, from Tim Byles CBE, Chief Executive, Partnerships for Schools, and from the Rt Hon Ed Balls MP. Resolved, That the Committee take oral evidence from the Secretary of State for Education, on his responsibilities. 1 Mr Graham Stuart was elected as the Chair of the Committee on 9 June 2010, in accordance with Standing Order No. 122B (see House of Commons Votes and Proceedings, 10 June 2010) Resolved, That the Committee hold private seminars on matters relating to education and to children’s services. The Government’s response to the Eighth Report from the Committee in Session 2009–10 was appended to the Report. Resolved, That the Report be the First Special Report of the Committee to the House. Ordered, That the Chair make the Report to the House. 3. Main Estimates for financial year 2010-11 Ordered, That Estimates Memoranda supplied by the Department for Education and relating to Main Estimates for the financial year 2010-11 for the Department for Education and for the Teachers’ Pension Scheme be reported to the House for publication on the Internet. 4. Specialist Advisers to the Committee Ordered, That Professor Alan Smithers and Professor Geoff Whitty be appointed as Specialist Advisers to the Committee in matters relating to education and schools. 3. Future programme Resolved, That the Committee inquire into behaviour and discipline in schools. Resolved, That the Committee inquire into the role and performance of Ofsted. Resolved, That the Committee take oral evidence on safeguarding of children. 4. The responsibilities of the Secretary of State for Education The Rt Hon Michael Gove MP, Secretary of State for Education, and Mr David Bell, Permanent Secretary, Department for Education, gave oral evidence. Transforming Education outside the Classroom: Government response Draft Special Report (Transforming Education outside the Classroom: Government Response to the Children, Schools and Families Committee’s Sixth Report of Session 2009-10), proposed by the Chair, brought up, read the first and second time, and agreed to. The Government’s response to the Sixth Report from the Committee in Session 2009-10 was appended to the Report. Resolved, That the Report be the Third Special Report of the Committee to the House. Behaviour and discipline in schools Ordered, That Dr John Dunford and Mr Nick Peacey be appointed as Specialist Advisers to the Committee for its inquiry into Behaviour and Discipline in Schools. 4.
