This should be re-checked at the beginning of the treatment. If the client has not had tinting done for over a year they would need to be re patch tested before they could have a tinting treatment. PLEASE NOTE that the Redesign tint is different from the standard tint so a different patch test is also required for this treatment.

Eye Brow Tinting 1. The therapist should check the client’s record card prior to treatment paying particular attention to allergies and skin sensitivity. The client should have had a patch test done at least 24 hours (ideally 48 hours) prior to the treatment if she/he have not been treated in our salons before for tinting treatments. 2. The therapist should make the client comfortable on the treatment couch and explain the procedure of the treatment to the client. The therapist should then place a headband on the clients head to protect the hair and keep the hair out of the way of the treatment area. 3. The therapist should discuss fully the client’s expectations; colour choice and depth of colour that the client would like to achieve from her/his treatment. If the client is unsure or is wary about the result being too dark, the therapist should reassure the client and let her/him know that it can be applied, removed and checked and then reapplied if not dark enough. 4. If the client has any eyebrow pencil or powder on the area, this should be removed using damp cotton pads and eye make-up remover and blotted dry. 5. The therapist should apply petroleum jelly/Vaseline using a cotton bud to the skin surrounding the eyebrow; this will protect the clients skin from any staining 6. The therapist should mix the chosen colour of tint with peroxide as per developers’ instructions in a clean dappen dish. 7. The therapist should apply the tint to the area, being careful not to allow any tint to touch the skin underneath the . (UNLESS the client wants to fill in patchy eyebrows with the tint in which case tint can be applied to the skin carefully shaping to the desired end result). The tint should be left for a few minutes to develop (normally 2 minutes). The tint can be left on for up to 10 minutes for a very dark result. 8. The therapist should remove the tint from the area thoroughly using a damp cotton pad, making sure no tint has been left between the hairs. 9. The therapist should get the client to check the finished result in a hand mirror and if not dark enough, reapply for a minute or so more. Remove and check again that the client is happy. 10. If the client is having an eyebrow shape done the therapist should follow the protocol for eyebrow shaping.

Eye Brow Re-Design

PLEASE NOTE: The Hairwell Eyebrow Tint must be used for the Eyebrow Redesign for a longer lasting result and a separate patch test is required.

1. The therapist should check the client’s record card prior to treatment paying particular attention to allergies and skin sensitivity. The client should have had a patch test done prior to the treatment if she/he has not been treated in our salons before for tinting treatments. 2. The therapist should make the client comfortable on the treatment couch and explain the procedure of the treatment to the client. The therapist should then place a headband on the client’s head to protect the hair and keep the hair out of the way of the treatment area. 3. The therapist should discuss fully the client’s expectations, colour choice and depth of colour that the client would like to achieve from their treatment. For eyebrow redesign the therapist should ask the client if she/he wishes for the hair to be removed from the area above the eyebrow and how dramatic and dark the clients expectations are of the treatment. Also thickness and expectation of shape should be discussed. The therapist should make clear to the client if the shape desired is achievable. This is not always the case if the client has had their eyebrows over-waxed/shaped or if the client’s eyebrows are sparse. 4. The therapist should first start the eyebrow redesign by tinting using the Hairwell tints. These should be mixed as per developer’s instructions and applied onto the skin and hair. The henna in the tint will stain the skin leaving a more dramatic effect. The tint should be left on for 10 minutes and removed with dry cotton pads. Take care to make sure all tint is removed. The therapist should make sure the client is 100% happy with the colour before moving onto the next step. 5. While the tint is developing the therapist should apply hand cream and massage for a few minutes each of the client’s . 6. The therapist should now shape the eyebrows as per the eyebrow shaping protocol noted below: 7. If the client has never had their eyebrows shaped before or they would like them reshaped; firstly the therapist should measure the client’s eyebrows as below:

Highest Point - Determines where the eyebrow should Arch Corner of Nose to Inner Corner this is only the eyebrow has Of the Eye to determine never been waxed from the top How far in from the centre of The brows the hair should be removed

Corner of the Nose to the Outer corner of the eye for For Eye Brow re-Design Only- The blue highlighted length of the area shown is the area above the eyebrow that the client may wish to have removed, this will give the eyebrows clients eyebrows a more defined and precise finishe/hed result. The therapist must ask the client if they wish to have this area waxed.

8. The therapist should use the orange wood stick to measure from the corner of the nose through the inner corner of the eye and up to the eyebrow, this determines how far in from the centre of the eyebrows the hair can/should be removed. This can be shown to the client using a hand mirror. 9. They therapist should check the temperature of the wax on her own . 10. The therapist should remove the hair that is on the inner to the centre part of the brow from where the wood stick sits as shown in the diagram above. The shape should follow the natural shape of the eyebrow and should not look squared unless this has been requested by the client. 11. The therapist should do this by applying a small thin layer of wax to the centre of the brow. An eyebrow strip should be applied and pressed and rubbed firmly. The client’s skin should be stretched and supported with the therapist’s other hand while the strip is pulled back on itself. IMPORTANT: If blood spotting occurs do not double dip the spatula. Use a new one for each application of wax 12. The second part of the eyebrow is the highest point where the eyebrow naturally arches. The therapist should measure this by placing the wood stick from the corner of the nose, through the centre of the eye and over the top of the eyebrow as shown above. The arch or the highest point of the brow should be where the orange wood stick sits on the eyebrow. 13. The therapist should apply again a small thin layer of wax under the natural arch of the eyebrow. The desired thickness should have previously been discussed with the client; small strips will prevent taking too much away and leaving the client’s eyebrows too thin. This part under the arch should be done in 3-4 smaller strips and should be fully supported and stretched by the therapist. Do not apply the wax too far down onto the lid of the eye; this will cause the skin to lift. 14. The third part of the eyebrow to be shaped is the end of the brow; this will determine the length of the eyebrow and should be measured by running the wood stick from the corner of the nose up through the outer corner of the eye and onto the brow. There will usually only be a small amount to remove, if any and usually only if a client has never had her eyebrows waxed. It is important not to remove too much of the ends of the client’s eyebrows because it will make them too short; this is the part of the eyebrow that tends to not fully grow back. 15. The therapist should apply a small amount of wax to the lower corner and, as with previous steps, it is crucial to stretch the skin so as not to cause lifting to the skin. The therapist should apply the strip and firmly press and rub before pulling the strip back on its self. It is normal protocol that Eyebrows are tapered out slightly thinner at the ends. This should be discussed with the client so that too much hair is not removed and the client is left unhappy with the thickness of the brow. 16. The last part of the eyebrow to be waxed is the area at the top of the brow. There usually isn’t a lot of hair to be removed but will give a very precise and defined finish to the eyebrow. This should be done only with the client’s consent using small strips like the previous steps. The skin surrounding the area should be supported at all times. 17. If at all unsure of how much to take away always discuss with the client prior to applying wax and removing any of the eyebrow. 18. The therapist should now remove any smaller hairs that have been left by tweezing over the area, paying particular attention to the line of the eyebrow making sure that no hairs are left for ultimate definition. 19. Apply after-wax to the area to soothe the client’s skin top, bottom and middle. 20. Once all of the hair is removed that is required, the therapist should trim any long hairs that are in the brows by using small scissors and a brush (either disposable or steralisable). Brush the eyebrows up wards to start with and then across from the centre of the brow outwards. If there are any long straggly hairs use the scissors to trim them off. 21. For an ultra defined look the eyebrow re-design should be finished by applying new CID i-groom or an eyebrow powder to the eyebrow, this should be done with a mirror showing the client how it is applied. This is a good point to recommend that the client buys the product for home use and ensures that they know how to apply it. It will allow the client to see the difference it makes to the definition of the eyebrows. Another selling point is that it will allow them time between treatments as the tint fades over the coming weeks. This will give them the definition that they require until it is time for their next treatment. 22. Once complete the therapist should ensure that the client is 100% happy with all aspects of their treatment and the finished look of the eyebrows.

Eye Lash Tinting

1. The therapist should check the client’s record card prior to treatment paying particular attention to allergies and skin sensitivity. The client should have had a patch test done prior to the treatment if they have not been treated in our salons before for tinting treatments. 2. The therapist should make the client comfortable on the treatment couch and explain the procedure of the treatment to the client. The therapist should then place a headband on the client’s head to protect the hair and keep the hair out of the way of the treatment area. 3. The therapist should discuss fully the client’s expectations, colour choice and depth of colour that the client would like to achieve from her/his treatment. 4. If the client has any eye make-up on the area this should be removed using damp cotton pads and eye make-up remover until no traces are left and blotted dry. 5. The therapist should prepare the eye area by applying petroleum jelly on the upper using a clean cotton bud. This should also be applied to the area under the eye as close to the bottom lashes as possible. A dampened paper protector should be placed under the client’s eye. The therapist should check that it is comfortable for the client and get the client to close her/his eyes. The clients eyes should not be closed too tight as this will cause the client’s lashes to fold into the eye. 6. The therapist should mix the chosen colour of tint with peroxide, as per developer’s instructions, in a clean dappen dish. The therapist should apply the tint to the as far to the base of the lash as possible and including the bottom lashes. 7. The therapist should leave the tint to develop for 10 minutes. While the tint is developing the therapist should apply salon’s own hand cream to the client’s hands and massage in for a few minutes. 8. The therapist should remove the excess tint from the lashes using a clean cotton bud. Once the majority is removed the therapist should remove the protectors from the eye and use damp cotton pads to remove the tint residue from the lashes. This should be done is circular motions pulling outward from the inner corner of the eye. Note: Therapists should not use the same cotton pads or cotton buds on both eyes; a new cotton pad or bud should be used on individual eyes to stop cross contamination of undetected eye infections/disorders. 9. Place two clean damp cotton pads on the eyes and ask the client to gently rub themselves and open when they feel ready. Some clients will prefer to sit up to do this before opening their eyes. 10. The therapist should ask the client to open her/his eyes. If a slight sting or irritation occurs the therapist should advise the client to blink to clear the eye. If the sting persists or in fact the client’s eye is extremely irritated the therapist should rinse the client’s eye through by getting the client to turn her/his head to the side. Using a clean cotton pad and clean water the therapist should squeeze water through the eye from the inner corner, catching it with a tissue at the outer corner of the eye. Repeat this on the second eye using a new cotton pad and tissue, blot dry and get the client to open her/his eyes and check that the sting has gone. 11. The therapist should give the client a clean tissue and a mirror to check the finished result of the treatment.

The therapist should apply a head band to protect the client’s hair. 2. The therapist should start the eye package by applying the eyelash tint, as per the protocol noted above and leave to develop for 10 minutes. 3. While the eyelash tint is developing the therapist should apply the eyebrow tint to the eyebrows: again as per the protocol noted above. 4. Once the eyebrow tint has developed for the allocated time and is thoroughly removed, the therapist should remove the eyelash tint from the client’s lashes and remove all residues from the client’s eyes thoroughly. 5.
