PRE - LASER INSTRUCTIONS 1. Shave the site/s to be treated the evening before each treatment session. (Avoid waxing for 2 weeks before and throughout treatment course – as waxing diminishes laser target.) 2. Also, minimize sun exposure, as best as possible, for at least 1 month before and after treatment. Wear protective clothing (hat, etc.) and a high SPF (at least SPF 30) sunblock to protect the treated area/s from direct sun exposure. 3. Take Tylenol or another pain reliever which contains no aspirin or ibuprofen, if needed. 4. Apply EMLA / ELA-Max / Topicaine (or other topical anesthetic) at least 1 hour before treatment under saran wrap, if needed. WHAT TO EXPECT ♦ BBL/Laser-treated hairs will still be visible / present after your treatment. However, they are now injured or destroyed at the level of the hair follicle (“root”) and will soon fall out (usually, within the next 2-5 days up to 2 weeks). ♦ The treated area may redden and/or swell somewhat. A mild sunburn sensation may be noticed for up to several hours after treatment. This is caused by the BBL/laser energy, and represents inflammation, and not infection.     Laser Hair Removal Pre and Post Treatment Patient Information Sheet Before Your Treatment: • Do Not Wax, Tweeze or Pluck the hair in the areas you are having treated. The laser treatments will not be effective in removing hair from areas that you have recently waxed, tweezed or plucked. • If you regularly wax, tweeze or pluck hair from any area you are having treated with laser, you must wait 6 weeks before you commence your first hair removal treatment. • Shaving is the only acceptable method of hair removal during the entire course of your laser hair removal treatments. • Please refrain from tanning your skin either with direct sun exposure or artificial tanning products for at least 3 weeks before your laser hair removal appointment. It is important that you lose any tan you may have got from sun exposure or tanning products, prior to having a laser hair removal treatment. • Please shave the area you plan on having treated with laser within 24 hours of your scheduled appointment. Please ensure that the hairs are shaved close to the skin, for the most effective treatment. • Do not wear lotions, perfumes/cologne or deodorant (for underarm treatment) the day of your laser treatment. If you are wearing any of the above products – please advise the Nurse that is treating you so she can remove the product prior to your treatment. • Laser hair removal cannot be performed over tattoos. After Care The following Information should be given to each client who is having a tinting treatment: Avoid rubbing the eyes Avoid heat treatments for 24 hours Avoid sunbathing for 24 hours, as this fades the tint Avoid putting your contact lenses back in for the rest of the day Although we make sure every trace of dye is removed, it is possible that residues may remain Do not apply make-up or receive any other eye treatments for at least 24 hours after your treatment. No perfumed products or lotions ( if the eyebrows have been shaped) Apply after-wax or aloe vera to soothe the skin if required, at home Try not to tweeze the eyebrows between treatments as this may change the shape of the brow and causes the hair growth cycle to change. Affects coarse hair of the pubic area, body and rarely the eyebrows and eyelashes. Incubation period is usually between 5 days and several weeks. Signs and Symptoms Itch (worse at night) Red Papules Visible eggs or crab louse (tan/grey in colour) or faecal specks (black) Occasionally some individuals can have prolonged, asymptomatic infestation Diagnosis Finding the adult lice and/or eggs seen in affected areas - a magnifying glass may help. Eggs adhere to the hair Blue macules (maculae caeruleae) may be visible at feeding sites Examination under light microscopy can confirm the exact morphology NB: May also affect eyelashes and eyebrows Management General advice Avoid close body contact until they and their partner(s) have completed treatment Give detailed explanation of the condition, and clear and accurate written information on applying the treatment. But at what cost to the health of the ocular surface? As it turns out, a steep price. Ophthalmologists with female patients — especially those “of a certain age” — need to be aware of the threats these embellishments pose to the ocular surface. Figure 1. Elizabeth Taylor as Cleopatra. What follows is a list of beauty treatments, their composition and what damage they can cause to the ocular surface. Unnatural eyelashes Eyelash extensions. Their popularity is striking. Type ‘eyelash’ into Google and ‘extensions’ pops up immediately. They are available in nail and hair salons, day spas and other establishments offering aesthetic services. Eyelash extensions are applied to each existing lash on the person’s lids to create a fuller, thicker look. A bonding agent is used to affix the synthetic lash to the natural one. The National Consumer Affairs Center of Japan has reported that the number of cases, along with concerning signs and symptoms stemming from this process, are on the rise.     Lashes and Brows Care Instructions Eyelash Perming Care Instructions Eyelash perming is a great way to achieve the curl you’ve always dreamed of that eyelash curlers and even heated eyelash curl- ers won’t give you the same results. Eye lash perming is much like perming your hair, except in a smaller dosage and application to make it safe for your eyes. A patch test is required 48 hours prior to application to ensure solution sensitivity. Patch test can be applied on arm or back of neck and can be done during consultation. When perming eyelashes, a client who wears contacts should come in wearing glasses or bring a pair to wear after. Contacts cannot be worn during procedure and cannot be put back in until 24 hours after procedure. Client should not get eyelashes wet for 24 hours so that solution can fully develop. If they do get wet, perming process will not reach full effect and can lose most or all of curl. Client can take a shower or a bath but a dry wash- cloth should be put over eyes to avoid water from hitting eyelashes. Perm should last 1-2 months depending on how lash takes to perm. Example: straight downward positioned lashes may need to be repermed sooner that someone who already has a slight curve to their lash due to how the natural lash grows out.
