OUTSTANDING WORK DONE

A. MANAGEMENT OF TRAUMATIC BLINDNESS (Optic Nerve Injury).

In prospective study over 1100 cases of Optic Nerve Injury, I have found out the diagnostic and predictive value of VEP. I have also in a phased manner analysed the role of CT Scan, MRI and Orbital ultrasound. I have also rationalised the indications for Surgery. The studies which has extended over 26 years, and I have published 30 papers or chapters in various Journals. I have presented more than 50 papers in several National and International Conferences. I have also put down Mahapatra’s Criteria for Optic Nerve Decompression. Time to time, I have discussed the management of optic nerve injury in CME Programme of Neurosurgery, Otolaryngology and Ophthalmology time to time. Till date over 35 papers have been published.

B.Incharge of Evoked Potential laboratory of Department of Neurosurgery.

Several prospective studies have been carried out in last 10 years, and over 10000 various recordings have been done. Many MD and M.Ch. students have done thesis work in Evoked Potential and Papers have published in National and International Journals. Twenty seven projects on various aspects were studied, and over 20 papers have been published.

C. Worked as a Faculty in DST National Facility for Neural Transplant.

With the financial assistance by DST and ICMR the centre for Neural transplant started in 1985, which provided training to the persons coming from different states of India. Students have done Ph.D. on Neural transplantation. More than a dozen of papers have been published and presented. During the project both experiments were carried out in rats and monkeys. Parkinsonism was created in monkeys by using intravenous and Intracarotid MPTP injection then foetal tissue was transplanted in Palidum of the MPTP induced monkeys with Parkinsonian symptom. The effect of tissue transplant in relieving symptom in monkey was studied.

D. FIST Project of Cadaver Dissection

National facility for Cadaver Dissection at Neurosurgery, AIIMS, New Delhi where cadaver dissection is done in Skull Base on FIST project by Department of Science & Technology (DST), Govt. of India, as I am the Principal Investigator for 3 years period with the financial assistance by DST and ICMR to set up 4 work stations.
