Governor of Bank Dr. Atiur Rahman leaves for to receive Gold Plaque

Dr. Atiur Rahman, Governor, Bangladesh Bank (the central bank of Bangladesh) is leaving Dhaka for Kolkata tomorrow morning (7th May 2012) to receive the prestigious Indira Gandhi Gold Plaque 2011. Dr. Rahman has been awarded the Gold Plaque by the Asiatic Society, Kolkata, in recognition of his significant contribution to international co-operation towards human progress. The award will be conferred upon Dr. Rahman on 7th May 2012 in the evening at the Vidyasagar Hall of the Asiatic Society, Kolkata. Dr. Rahman will return to Dhaka on 9th May 2012.

First introduced in 1985, past awardees of the Gold Plaque include among others ex-Swedish premier Olof Palme (1985), Dr. D.S. Kothari (1986), Nobel Laureates (1987), ex - Secretary General of the United Nations Dr. Javier Perez de Cuellar (1988), Dr. (1989), Rev Desmond Tutu (1990), Dr. Karan Sing (1991), Smt. Aruna (1992), Yasser Arafat (1993), Professor (1994), Aung San Suu Kyi (1995), Shri K. R. Narayan (1996), Dr. (1997), Dr. Gabriel Garcia Marquez (1998), Gunter Grass (1999), Cuban revolutionary Dr. Fidel Castro (2000), musician and composer Pandit (2001), Father of the Green Revolution M.S. Swaminathan (2002), shehnai maestro Ustad (2003), sculptor Somnath Hore (2004), Shri K. R. Narayan (2005), Professor of Buddhist and Tibetan Studies Dr. Ernst Steinkellner (2006), painter and writer Sri. Dinkar Kowshik (2007), Indian Finance Minister Sri. (2008) and Bangladesh Premier Sheikh Hasina (2009), Prof. (2010).

Earlier Dr. Atiur Rahman received 'Sheltech Award (2010)' & 'Nawab Bahadur Syed Nawab Ali Chowdhury National Award (2012)' for his outstanding contribution in development of the financial sector of Bangladesh.
