In 2017, with support from the WildCats Conservation Alliance (WCCA), we continued our monitoring program by deploying 50 pairs of camera traps in Hunchun Nature Reserve (HNR) to cover approximately 450 km2 of key habitat for Amur tigers and leopards. The camera trap monitoring period covered about 25,000 trap nights and resulted in about 50,000 images and videos of wildlife and human activity, of which 700 images and videos were of 10 leopards and 13 tigers. Seven of these leopards and eight of these tigers were new to our camera traps. By combining data with partners collecting data across the entirety of the park, we identified 20 different leopard individuals (9 males, 5 females, and 6 of unknown sex), and 18 different tiger individuals (5 males, 5 females, and 8 of unknown sex) in HNR. -

A Re-Examination of the Age of Hunchun Flora, Jilin Province, China
Acta Palaeobot. 43(1): 3–8, 2003 A re-examination of the age of Hunchun Flora, Jilin Province, China ALBERT ABLAEV1, CHENG-SEN LI2 and YU-FEI WANG2 1Pacific Oceanological Institute, Russian Academy of Sciences, Vladivostok 41, 690041 Russia; e-mail: [email protected] 2Department of Palaeobotany, Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Xiangshan, Beijing 100093, P.R. China; e-mail: [email protected] & [email protected] Received 4 April 2002; accepted for publication 31 March 2003 ABSTRACT. The Pritumangan Basin in East Asia is very rich in commercial coals. It occupies parts of the territories of China, North Korea and Far East Russia. The sequence of sediments with coals in Khasan, the Russian part of the basin, ranges in age from Eocene (Nazimov Formation) to Miocene (Khasan Formation). The coal bearing strata of the basin in Onsong and Yusong of Korea are assigned to Eocene while in Saeboyl they are of Miocene age. The floral analysis of all the three parts of the basin suggests that the age of the coal-bearing Hunchun Formation at Hunchun in the Chinese part of the basin is most probably of Middle Eocene age. In this paper, also newly recovered specimens of Alnus shestakovae Ablaev are described. KEY WORDS: fossil leaves, Hunchun flora, Eocene, Pritumangan basin, China, North Korea, Far East Russia INTRODUCTION The Pritumangan Basin is the biggest coal- to the data provided by local geologists, the total thick- bearing continental deposit of East Asia. It ness of terrigenous-coal deposits of the Hunchun For- mation developed here is 600 m. -

North Korea – Cross
Country Advice China China – CHN38353 – North Korea – Cross Border Visits – Tourist – Documents – Korean Heritage – Jilin – Hunchun – Yanji – Rajin 11 March 2011 1. Can you confirm whether it was possible in 2003 for a Chinese national of Korean heritage to travel into North Korea as a tourist, stay for four days in Rajin and surrounds, and return? What documents are needed? Several sources of information indicate that it is possible that, in 2003, a Chinese national of Korean heritage was able to travel into North Korea as a tourist, stay for four days, and return. Rajin is within driving distance (approximately 67km1) from Hunchun and it was a popular destination for Chinese tourists at the time. Several sources indicate that North Korea generally allowed Chinese tourists to enter into North Korea using only a Chinese identity document prior to 2004. Several sources also indicate that a sizeable Chinese community of Korean heritage (850,000 members) is located in this border area of China and North Korea, and cross-border travel and business has been conducted for years with some ease.2 Figure 1, below, shows the following locations in China: Yanji, Hunchun, and Yangbian; and Rajin located in North Korea. Rajin is located 50 km from the border with China reachable via an unpaved road.3 1 ‘Distance from Rajin and Hunchun’ 2000, Microsoft Encarta Interactive World Atlas 2000 – Attachment 1. 2 Mong, A. 2009, ‘A glimpse across the North Korean border’ World Blog NBC News MSNBC.com website, 4 June http://worldblog.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2009/06/04/4376423-a-glimpse-across-the-north-korean-border - Accessed 11 March 2011 – Attachment 2. -
