1950'S Movies Word Search – Presentation 1950’s Movie Word Search Instructions 1. Complete the word search titled “1950’s Movies”. 2. Once you’ve completed the word search, view the presentation that summarizes each movie. 3. The slides have a link attached which will enable you to view the movie trailer that gives a preview of each of the famous movies from the 1950’s. Do these movie clips bring back memories for you? DeMille film was released in 1956. Another Godzilla film, Godzilla, King of Monsters, an American version, was released in 1956, These films start the beginning of the Godzilla films. Based on the fairy tale Cinderella by Charles Perrault. This was Disney’s 12th animated film. With a wicked stepmother and 2 stepsisters, Cinderella is not able to attend the ball. Cinderella’s fairy godmother works some magic and Cinderella is able to arrive to the ball. This film stars James Stewart, Grace Kelly, Wendell Corey, Thelma Ritter, and Raymond Burr. James Stewart plays the role of a news photographer who is healing from an injury and spends his times watching his neighbors. It stars Gene Kelly, Donald O’Connor, and Debbie Reynolds. The town marshal, played by Gary Cooper is preparing to retire and start life with his new bride. Stewart plays the role of Elwood P. Dowd. Elwood has a “pooka” which is a creature of Celtic Folklore and presents himself in the form of an invisible 6 foot 3.5 inch tall invisible rabbit. It ' s not everyone else ' s opinion that matters, but the Academy ' s. Mulling over the movies of 1941, the Acade my rejected Citizen Kane . Perhaps they resented Orson Welles ' s arrogant ways and unprecedented creative power. Maybe they thought the film too experimental. Maybe the vote was split between Citizen Kane and The Maltese Falcon , both pioneering in their F ilm Noir flavor. Or they may not have seen the film at all since it was granted such limited release as a result of newspaper baron William Randolph Hearst ' s threats to RKO. Nobody knows, and it doesn ' t matter. Academy members can ' t be forced to vote for the film they like best. Their biases and political calculations can ' t be dissected. To subject the Academy to such scrutiny would be impossible and unfair. It ' s the Academy ' s awards, not ours.

Some of them just seem so specific that it's absurd. Emotional Fight-the-System Documentaries? Period Pieces About Royalty Based on Real Life? Foreign Satanic Stories from the 1980s? If Netflix can show such tiny slices of cinema to any given user, and they have 40 million users, how vast did their set of "personalized genres" need to be to describe the entire Hollywood universe? This idle wonder turned to rabid fascination when I realized that I could capture each and every microgenre that Netflix's algorithm has ever created. Through a combination of elbow grease and spam-level repetition, we discovered that Netflix possesses not several hundred genres, or even several thousand, but 76,897 unique ways to describe types of movies. There are so many that just loading, copying, and pasting all of them took the little script I wrote more than 20 hours. We've now spent several weeks understanding, analyzing, and reverse-engineering how Netflix's vocabulary and grammar work.
