Raymond Burr Vineyards ~ 8339 W
~ RAYMOND BURR VINEYARDS ~ 8339 W. Dry Creek Road Healdsburg ~ California Located in the Dry Creek Valley AVA 5850 Anderson Rd, Forestville, CA 95436 www.bergmanvineyards.com PH: (707) 887-9822; FX: (866) 691-5251 Page 1 of 7 RAYMOND BURR VINEYARDS A Historical Perspective It was in the middle 1950’s on the widely acclaimed and successful television program “Perry Mason” that the two actors, Raymond Burr and Robert Benevides first met. Their friendship grew and advanced as their mutual interest in the knowledge of the cultivation and hybridization of orchids developed. Their mutual hobby began to grow in importance to them and the next logical step was to make it into a commercial venture. At the same time, Benevides had become Executive in Charge of Production for Mr. Burr’s very successful and long (8 years) running television series, “Ironside”. The two men purchased an island in Fiji where they raised coconuts and cattle and helped bring up the standard of living for the Fijian people who lived on the island. In 1976, Robert Benevides’ father, attracted by the beauty of the Dry Creek Valley and the special qualities of land with its productive soils, purchased portions of the existing Raymond Burr Vineyard Estate. Years later, Robert and Raymond planted vines on their lovely estate in 1986. Their first wines were made in 1990 under the direction of John Pedroncelli, who together with his brother, Jim, owned the Pedroncelli Winery off Canyon Road. The Raymond Burr label started in 1998. A reasonable price was set for the Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay wines, and over the years, prices for their Estate wines have remained the same as the original releases. -
Raoul Walsh to Attend Opening of Retrospective Tribute at Museum
The Museum of Modern Art jl west 53 Street, New York, N.Y. 10019 Tel. 956-6100 Cable: Modernart NO. 34 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE RAOUL WALSH TO ATTEND OPENING OF RETROSPECTIVE TRIBUTE AT MUSEUM Raoul Walsh, 87-year-old film director whose career in motion pictures spanned more than five decades, will come to New York for the opening of a three-month retrospective of his films beginning Thursday, April 18, at The Museum of Modern Art. In a rare public appearance Mr. Walsh will attend the 8 pm screening of "Gentleman Jim," his 1942 film in which Errol Flynn portrays the boxing champion James J. Corbett. One of the giants of American filmdom, Walsh has worked in all genres — Westerns, gangster films, war pictures, adventure films, musicals — and with many of Hollywood's greatest stars — Victor McLaglen, Gloria Swanson, Douglas Fair banks, Mae West, James Cagney, Humphrey Bogart, Marlene Dietrich and Edward G. Robinson, to name just a few. It is ultimately as a director of action pictures that Walsh is best known and a growing body of critical opinion places him in the front rank with directors like Ford, Hawks, Curtiz and Wellman. Richard Schickel has called him "one of the best action directors...we've ever had" and British film critic Julian Fox has written: "Raoul Walsh, more than any other legendary figure from Hollywood's golden past, has truly lived up to the early cinema's reputation for 'action all the way'...." Walsh's penchant for action is not surprising considering he began his career more than 60 years ago as a stunt-rider in early "westerns" filmed in the New Jersey hills. -

His researches seem to them a waste of time and energy. Interest in ancestors, love of family and kindred, those subtle questions of race, origin, even of life itself, which they involve, are quite beyond their com prehension. They live only in the present, care nothing for the past and little for the future; for " he who cares not whence he cometh, cares not whither he goeth." When such persons are approached with questions of ancestry, they retire to their stronghold of apathy; and the querist learns, without diffi culty, that whether their ancestors were vile or illustrious, virtuous or vicious, or whether, indeed, they ever had any, is to them a matter of supreme indifference. -

Walter H. Helmerich, III Read the Story of the Man That Inspired the Beginning of Voices of Oklahoma
Walter H. Helmerich, III Read the story of the man that inspired the beginning of Voices of Oklahoma. Chapter 1 – 1:18 Introduction John Erling: For more than 10 years, Walt Helmerich and I would have monthly lunches that would last a couple of hours. During these lunches, Walt would tell me great stories from his life. I would tell him that he should put these stories in a book, which he chose not to do. So I suggested that we should at least record these stories and so we did. I then thought people would enjoy hearing them because he is a good storyteller. I asked him what he would think of putting his voice and other Oklahoma voices on an oral history website that would be targeted toward students and the general public. Of course, he said, “I think that would be a good idea.” I then asked him to encourage his friend Henry Zarrow to record his life story. Henry agreed and thus this Oklahoma oral history website, VoicesofOklahoma.com was born. In addition, Walt became an investor in the idea. Other foundations joined him in becoming our Founding Sponsors, even before the website was built. Our recording sessions took place in December 2008 and spring 2009, when Walt was 85 and 86 years old. Now you and I can listen the voice of Walter Hugo Helmerich III, a very successful, interesting man who has done so much for Tulsa and our state, on VoicesofOklahoma.com. Chapter 2 – 5:25 Family Background John Erling: Please state your name and the date and where we are recording this. -
