For the Dogs in it is really an Emergency State! If the phenomenon of summer abandonment seems - fortunately - to be progressively diminished, in line with the rest of (except then to reckon with accommodation facilities at all "animal friendly"), unfortunately, the cases of unprecedented and unjustified violence increase dramatically against our beloved 4-legged friends.

It is very sad to have to read continuously on the pages of newspapers poisoned dogs, killed with sticks, suffocated, mistreated ...

Years ago we faced the phenomenon of stray dogs in Lamezia Terme, allowing us - with humility and collaborative spirit - to provide some suggestions to solve seriously and concretely a problem that afflicts many city centers. In reality, stray dogs are never treated as a problem, but they are underestimated by local administrators, who instead have responsibilities towards the 4-legged friends who live in the municipal territory, so much so that in the taxes paid by citizens already included a part intended for the welfare of the animals! Such indifference leaves room for acts of cruelty, which - again, it is divided into several parts by the exacerbation of penalties - are not adequately prosecuted and punished.

The lack of sufficient funds for the management of kennels and shelters is not a valid justification!

And the "incidents" that have as protagonists members of the police forces "forced" to the use of weapons, can not be accepted: other methods can be used to cope with the rare cases in which dogs terrorized and / or injured seem to be unmanageable or aggressive (in reserves in Africa, where wild animals are aggressive by their nature, anesthetic darts have been used for decades only if forced)!

Yesterday has received yet another news of poisoned dogs in the province of (), but unfortunately there are also in Reggio Calabria, Vibo Valentia, Catanzaro and Cosenza.

Rather than favoring "questionable educational projects", such as hunting lessons for children (in ), it is necessary and absolutely urgent that the Regional Government bodies intervene on local administrations with concrete initiatives to protect the animals.

Respect education towards Every Creature, Compassion and Empathy towards sentient Beings (that is, that they feel feelings, emotions and pain like us), is fundamental if we still want to be able to say to live in a civil place (as Gandhi said "La greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way it treats animals " )!
