THURSDAY, MARCH 26,2009 I THE GEORGE-ANNE FEATURES! PAGE9 The Green Corner presents: green dreams for all By Philip Clements Features Editor

Lately, my dreams have taken on a greenish hue. Fields of wind turbines, rows of suburban homes with solar panels on their roofs, people working side by side in urban gardens across this country. Before, those visions would seem surreal and unrealistic, like a mural on the wall in Mel- low Mushroom. But now they've got a fresh coat of paint and I'll be damned if it doesn't look like a photograph. Even as an environmental columnist, I was still fairly skeptical and slightly pessimistic about the future ofhumanity on this planet. The facts of global warming and climate change were dreadful and the path we were on was a highway to hell. I was cyni- cal about whether or not society at large would, or even could, fight its addiction to overconsumption and shift into a sustainable community. But after attending Powershift a few weeks ago, my eyes have been opened to all the amazing ad- vances in the green world, from the shrinking cost of solar panel production to the growing number of supporters in congress. It is becoming much easier to decrease your carbon footprint and make a contribution towards a sustainable America.
