2/9/2011 UA Fort Smith News, UA Fort Smith New… UA Fort Smith News Dashboard Confessional to Perform in Fort Smith on Nov. 4 (Posted: October 6, 2006) (Printable Version) Make plans to join hundreds of fans as they rock out to the sounds of Dashboard Confessional and special guest Brand New on Nov. 4 at the Fort Smith Convention Center Exhibit Hall in a concert sponsored by the University of Arkansas - Fort Smith. Know n for its underground emo-rock sound and energetic performances, Dashboard Confessional has attracted international recognition in countries such as Sw eden, Canada and India, but they are most popular w ith teens and college students in the US. Stacey Jones, associate vice chancellor for campus and community events at UA Fort Smith, said he decided to bring Dashboard Confessional here because of the popularity of the group, coupled w ith their availability. “I’ve listened to their music and think they are an outstanding group,” said Jones. “Their last album w as a big hit, especially because of their w ork on the ‘Spider-Man 2’ soundtrack.” Jones said he also surveyed a group of students regarding w ho they’d like to see UA Fort Smith bring here, and Dashboard Confessional had some of the highest ratings. “I’m already getting calls from as far aw ay as Little Rock from people interested in purchasing tickets,” said Jones. Chris Carrabba, lead singer and guitarist of Dashboard Confessional, has extensive experience in the music industry, including success as a solo artist and member of bands such as Further Seems Forever and Vacant Andies. The group also includes John Lefler (guitar, keyboard, vocals), Scott Shoenbeck (bass) and Mike Marsh (drums, vocals). Dashboard Confessional, named after a line from their song “The Sharp Hint of New Tears,” originated in October 2002 w hen Carrabba turned his temporary touring band into a permanent group. How ever, there are still many personal friends w ho perform w ith the band temporarily throughout the year, keeping the sound fresh and full of energy. Jones said these elements are apparent on Dashboard’s fourth full-length album, “Dusk and Summer,” w hich debuted in June 2006 at No. 2 on the Billboard charts. “I believe our local community w ill be impressed w ith Dashboard,” Jones said. “This is an excellent opportunity to hear a really fine band.” Dashboard Confessional has also recorded for the soundtracks of “Spider-Man 2” and “Shrek 2” and w as named the 2002 MTV2 Artist of the Year for the song “Vindicated” and their Platinum-selling album, “MTV Unplugged 2.0.” Brand New , the special guest on Dashboard Confessional’s 2006 touring schedule, originated in New York during the 1990s, and consists of five friends expressing their indie-rock perspective. Much like the members of Brand New , Jones said Dashboard Confessional’s Carrabba defines their live show s as “intimate, personal experiences.” “The Nov. 4 concert at the Fort Smith Convention Center Exhibit Hall promises to be no exception,” he said.
