Member’s Annual Report 2017/18 This is the report by the Councillor below regarding his key activities over the year ending 31 March 2018. It is provided for the information of all constituents and for no other purpose. The views expressed in this report are those of the Councillor and they do not necessarily reflect the views of the Isle of Anglesey County Council. Councillor: Richard Griffiths Group: The Independent Group Ward: Bro Twrcelyn 1 - Role & Responsibilities Between May 2017 and March 2018, I Number of meetings Number attended sat on the following main committees / arranged sub-committees: The Council 9 8 Audit and Governance Committee 6 6 Corporate Parenting Panel 4 3 Corporate Scrutiny Committee 11 10 Democratic Services Committee 4 4 Pay and Grading Review Panel 0 0 The statistics provided are relevant only to the committees listed in this table. The statistics do not include attendance at other meetings related to the work of the Council. Attendance may also be dependent on the availability of a Member who is in employment. Attendance levels may vary due to the nature of work and responsibilities of members - as portfolio holder, committee chair or representing the Council on outside bodies, for example. I am a member of the Isle of Anglesey Charitable Trust and attended 5 out of the 6 meetings arranged. I am also on the Regeneration Committee of the Trust and attended 2 out of the 2 meetings arranged. I represent the Council on the following Number of Number attended outside bodies: meetings arranged North Wales Fire and Rescue Authority 9 7 North Wales Community Health Council 10 7 (Anglesey Local Committee) Wylfa Newydd Project Liaison Group 4 2 Wylfa Site Stakeholder Group 3 2 North Wales Fire and Rescue Authority 8 7 Executive Panel Fostering Panel 12 8 Champion for Children in Care 10 8 Governor – Cemaes Primary School 6 5 1 2 - Constituency Activity I have represented Twrcelyn Ward constituents on many issues throughout the year such as housing needs, continual issues with fly tipping and dog fouling, reporting potholes to the Highways department etc. I attend Amlwch, Rhosybol, Penysarn and Cemaes Community Councils as often as possible, also as a governor for Cemaes Primary School. 3 - Initiatives and Special Activities I am keen to support Wylfa Newydd and the economic benefits this massive project will bring and will continue to campaign for more investments to Twrcelyn Ward including improvements for the A5025 Cemaes to Amlwch Road. I will continue to oppose the National Grid’s intention of erecting pylons across Anglesey and support the proposal of undergrounding the power supply from Wylfa Newydd. As a hands on person I have been active in litter picking events around our coastline and parks including Council estates clean ups, with a view to expand this initiative throughout the Ward with the help of Ynys Môn housing department. As a member of the Community group ‘Caru Amlwch’ our group have been very busy working with volunteers in tidying up the town with wooden planters schemes, Scout Hall painting, setting up a pop up cinema for our young children, 2 bake off events with renowned Chefs as judges. ‘Caru Amlwch’ hosted an awards night to recognise our unsung heroes. We are currently working on setting up the first allotments in Amlwch for 50 years and re-established the Bull Bay Raft run (2017) with many more ideas and initiatives in the pipeline. 4 - Learning and Development I have attended the following learning and development initiatives during the past year (information supplied by the Isle of Anglesey County Council) Introduction to the Authority’s Services 11/05/2017 IPad Training 12/05/2017 Introduction to the Authority’s Services 18/05/2017 Briefing Session – Corporate Plan and Code 18/05/2017 Finance including Budgeting and Treasury 25/05/2017 Basic Safeguarding 01/06/2017 Gifts/Hospitality and Declaration of Interests 02/06/2017 The Constitution 05/06/2017 Housing Act 06/07/2017 Safeguarding Training 07/07/2017 Effective questioning in Scrutiny 04/12/2017 Introduction to e-learning 12/01/2018 Introduction to e-learning 12/01/2018 Child Sexual Exploitation 15/03/2018 Risk Management 23/03/2018 ACE Training 26/03/2018 Member Briefing Sessions ( 10 out of 12 ) May 2017 – March 2018 2 Attendance levels may vary due to the nature of work and responsibilities of members - as portfolio holder, committee chair or representing the Council on outside bodies, for example. 5 - Other Activities and Issues I am also involved with the Amlwch events group which organised a free Xmas dinner event at the Memorial Hall including other events planned through the year. Also, actively helping out with our local PCSO Iona Beckman to engage our young people to enjoy outdoor activities etc. I work alongside Elfed Rowlands of the Copper Kingdom museum at Amlwch port to promote this historical Port and Parys Mountain and have organised events throughout 2018 to celebrate the 250 years since the discovery of the Great Lode at the world-famous Copper mine. I have enjoyed the last 12 months which has been challenging to say the least and would like to thank everybody for their continued support.
