First up is the reissue of the Rolling Stones album Get Yer Ya-Ya’s Out!. What many consider the best live rock concert album of all time is now available from Abcko in a four-disc box set. Along with the original album there is a disc of five previously unreleased live performances and a DVD of those performances. There is a also a bonus CD of five live tracks from B.B. King and seven from Ike & Tina Turner, who were the opening acts on the tour. There is also a beautiful hardcover book with an essay by Russell, his photographs, fans’ notes and expanded liner notes, along with a lobby card-sized reproduction of the tour poster. Russell’s new book, Let It Bleed (Springboard), is now finally out and it’s a stunning visual look back on the infamous tour and the watershed Altamont concert. Russell doesn’t just provide his historic photos (which would be sufficient), but, like in his previous Dear Mr. Fantasy book, he serves as an insightful eyewitness of the greatest rock tour in history and rock music’s 60’s live Waterloo.

  • Belle and Sebastian Write About Love Rar 320
BELLE AND SEBASTIAN WRITE ABOUT LOVE RAR 320 The Boys are Back in Town Legal Man Formato: Kbps - BELLE AND SEBASTINE WRITE ABOUT LOVE. - Lista de Temas. I have a theory for this: it's not that everyone thinks this second album is better - its simply that unless you were very on the ball and liked trawling websites for bands you'd never heard of back in the days when most people didn't know what the internet was then you wouldn't have known about this album. Although talks took place with other bands simultaneously B and S' 'If You're Feeling Sinister' became the very first album on the label with Snow Patrol the second act signed - talk about starting a new label with a bang! These characters are directionless, unwilling to submit themselves to the grinning falsehood niceties of the capitalist world but not being sure what to use as a substitute. Therefore, 'If You're Feeling Sinister' was the first time anybody really heard Belle and Sebastian and Murdoch's songwriting especially is so remarkably different and new it couldn't fail to set the world alight - even if sales trickled rather than poured in as the few people who bought it on first release told friends, family and probably their pet felines about it. Strike that. The other big move since 'Tigermilk' is the growth of the band. The real achievement of a group like Oasis was in connecting people again, being winningly catchy for the pop crowd without selling out their selves for the masses at least, not for a while.

  • Snow Patrol Biography
SNOW PATROL BIOGRAPHY A few reasons why Snow Patrol are one of the biggest and boldest bands of the past decade: over 15 years, the part Irish, part Scottish five piece have transformed from cultish indie wannabes into a stadium-packing tour de force. They have shifted over ten million albums worldwide and been nominated for Grammys and Brits; scooped Meteors and Ivor Novello Album Awards. At the heart of the band is Gary Lightbody, Snow Patrol‟s frontman and songwriter-in-chief. Over five studio albums, the 33 year-old has sketched heart-bruised laments and arm-around-your-best-mate festival anthems; radio hits and moments of painful introspection. All of these have been gathered together for Up To Now - a double album of 30 singles, cover versions and album tracks. “It‟s a bit like photo album,” says Lightbody. “It‟s a documentation of how the band got to where it is now. We‟ve been working hard for 15 years – it wasn‟t something that happened overnight. We wanted to give people as honest an account of us as a band over the last five albums, warts and all. Yeah, we‟re being selectively honest and we might be covering over some of the cracks, but this collection really feels like an honest portrait of us as a band. “At first we got it down to 40 songs but knew it had to be leaner than that and had a little trouble cutting some things we really liked out. But we got it down to 30 in the end.

Snow Patrol Rock’n’roll high jinx comes in many forms. There’s the drinking games, then the bus- surfing and, of course, the groupies. But for Glasgow based four piece Snow Patrol, the height of pop star high jinx came with an X-rated football tackle on 90s pop star, Lyndy Layton of Beats International/ Dub Be Good To Me fame. “We were messing around on the dance floor of an awards ceremony recently,” says Snow Patrol’s charismatic, guitar-swinging lead singer, Gary Lightbody. (Nickname: Gimpy. “Because I’m a gimp.”) “Our manager tried to tackle me to the floor for some reason and he ended up launching me into her. It was very embarrassing.” The same no frills sense of adventure informs Final Straw, Snow Patrol’s third album. Already established as a heart-crushing mix of distorted British pedal rock and US alternative guitar pop on home soil, the album sees the band grow up, fill out and with some aplomb, make one of the best British records you’ll hear this year. But success hasn’t come easily and the Snow Patrol back-story began way back at Dundee University in 1994 when Lightbody bumped into guitarist, Mark McClelland. (Nickname: Maps. “Because he can find his way around any city.”) “Our eyes met across the crowded dance floor,” says Lightbody. “I knew he was the one for me. We clicked musically and we liked the same bands, so we thought ‘Why not start one of our own?’ That was the beginning of Snow Patrol.” Well, not quite.

Cambridge University Press 978-1-107-04095-3 - Organising Music: Theory, Practice, Performance Edited by Nic Beech and Charlotte Gilmore Frontmatter More information Organising Music Organisational theorists have become increasingly interested in the crea- tive industries, where practices that are commonplace are of particular interest to organisations in other sectors as they look for new ways to enhance performance. Focusing on the music industry, this book sets up a unique dialogue between leading organisational theorists and music professionals. Part I explores links between organisation theory and the creative industries literature, concentrating on practices of organising and knowledge mobilisation, followed by an in-depth discussion of key theoretical concepts by subject experts. Part II provides a diverse range of ‘tales from the field’, including examples from classical orchestras, folk, indie and punk. The concluding chapter examines the shared dialogue to reveal what practice in the musical field can learn from organisational theory, and vice versa. This innovative book will interest graduate stu- dents and researchers in the fields of organisation studies, music man- agement and the creative industries. nic beech is Vice-Principal and Head of the College of Arts and Social Sciences at the University of Dundee and Chair of the British Academy of Management. His research interests are in management practice, change and the construction of identity in the music industry, health, financial services and creative industries. He has extensively published in the field of organisation studies and is the author of Managing Change (Cambridge University Press, 2012) and Managing Creativity (Cambridge University Press, 2009). charlotte gilmore is a Chancellor’s Fellow at the University of Edinburgh Business School.

In 2008 UNESCO awarded Glasgow the title of ‘City of Music’ and the application dossier submitted in support of this title noted the importance of rock and pop for the city’s musical reputation. Since the late 1970s a large number of bands have emerged from (or been associated with) the city, yet little academic research has been carried out to determine the factors behind this phenomenon.
