A forward on the Jr. Blues, Cox was filled with emotion — because of the loss and his junior hockey career ending. He didn’t want to be the first one off the ice, so he wandered around and then decided to pray, kneeling at center ice and making the sign of the cross. “God’s given me a lot through my four years of junior hockey,” Cox said. “He gave me four years of a safe career. He gave me an opportunity to play along with some of my best friends now. I just thought it was a good oppor- tunity to thank him for every- thing, all the opportunities he’s given me.” When he finished his prayer, Cox said, he looked up and saw the captain of the Metro Jets, Griffin Sawyer, who approached “and said, ‘Do you mind if I pray with you?’ I said, ‘No, not at all.’ We said a prayer, and after that I just kinda got off the ice. Southern Cross, Page 12 Kids chronicles Thursday, September 12, 2019 Jesus tells the parable of the unjust steward By JennifeR ficcaglia (cns)

CHILDREN’S STORY: One day, Jesus told his followers a parable about a rich man and the steward who oversaw his estate. The rich man found out that the steward was dishonest and had squandered his property. “Prepare a full account of your stewardship, because you can no longer be my steward,” the rich man angrily told the steward. “What shall I do, now that my master is taking the position of steward away from me?” the steward wondered. “I am not strong enough to dig and I am ashamed to beg.” He quickly came up with an idea. It was a common practice for a steward to charge his mas- ter’s debtors more than what was owed and keep the extra for himself. So he decided to gain favor with the rich man’s debt- ors by charging only what they actually owed. In return, the debtors would welcome him into their homes after he lost his job.
