Misleading titleBy Laura I.With most books targeting a particular species of animal, information is given on the animal's native habitat, its care in captivity, physical characteristics, sexual dimorphism, and reproduction. Not so in this book. I was treated to three paragraphs about the physical characteristics, one of which just repeating the best points of the other two, in large font. The remaining 35 pages are filled with a relatively decent guide on setting up an aquarium, albeit riddled with spelling mistakes. The last five pages are blank.As a guide to the delightful kuhli loach, this book is a disaster. I highly regret paying $8 for what is essentially two paragraphs of information that could be gleaned from a cursory Google search. As an aquarium set up guide, this would be a very good booklet to include with any aquarium starter kit, and I highly advise the author to consider contacting a company to do so. I still would not pay $8 for it, but I'd pay as much as $4 extra on a starter kit for it.I had been hoping for a book of all the information on my favorite fish in one place. What I got was two paragraphs and a how to for something I've done half a dozen times before.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. All i needed to know Kuhli Loach Care: The Complete Guide to Caring for and Keeping Kuhli Loach as Pet Fish The Kuhli Loach (scientifically known as Pangio Kuhli) is a relatively small eel-like freshwater fish that belongs to the Loach family (scientifically known as Cobitidae). The Kuhli Loach is characterized by its small fins, four barbels around its mouth, a dorsal fin that starts well behind the middle of its body and slightly compressed sides. It also has a thin film of transparent skin that covers its eyes. A Kuhli Loach will normally have between 10 and 15 black vertical stripes that run down the length of its body with the remainder of its body being a pale salmon pink color. The Kuhli Loach originates from Indonesia and the Malay Peninsula. It is a nocturnal fish and very easy to startle ndash; it will hide under tank ornaments or bury itself into the tanks substrate if it is scared.Here at Fish Care Manuals we are passionate about fish care. Fruit fly is for instance an ideal food for pencilfish and hatchetfish. Growing your wingless fruit flies at home is not very complicated and you will always have suitable live food ready for your fish devour. To being with, you naturally have to obtain wingless fruit flies. You can for instance purchase them from an aquarium shop or ask your local fish club if anyone is willing to sell or donate flies. You will also need some type of ventilated container to house your fruit fly culture. A one quart (or 1 li- tre) fruit jar or sealer is handy, but virtually any type of container will work, as long as it has a fitting ring. A glass container is recommended since glass can be boiled prior to use, thereby ensuring clean conditions. You will also need a piece of clean cloth. The next step is a create something that allows your wingless fruit flies to get out of the culture medium. You can for instance use Popsicle sticks or a peace of cardboard or even better use a peace of that plastic mesh sold in needlework shops. Here, we have identified a non- conservative substitution within the mitochondria-encoded cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI) that is fixed within hummingbirds, but not among other vertebrates. This unusual change is also rare among metazoans, but can be identified in several clades with diverse life histories.
