The latter focuses on non-Jewish schools which accepted Jews (and some which did not but were, nevertheless, attended by Jews). This is a concise but very informing life of Robert Browne, Pioneer of Modern Co11grqfalio11alism, by the Rev. Dr. Powicke. So much additional light has been shed on Browne's life and character by the researches of Messrs. Burrage and Cater that almost everything printed on the subject before 1904 may now be regarded as obsolete. Dr. Powicke has made good use of the fruits of recent research, and has studied at first hand works of Browne's that have never been reprinted. He has quietly ignored several alleged facts, which rest only on doubtful tradition, and has used his own judgement on some points on which his views will not command universal assent. In particular, he rejects Dr. Dexter's opinion of Browne's mental disorder, and also the generally received tradition that he died in prison.

FINSBURY SQUARE THE OPPORTUNITY Spring 2020 1 INTRODUCTION Hondo Enterprises is an experienced London based investor, developer and asset manager, with a current development pipeline of circa one million square feet of mixed use schemes currently going through the planning system. Hondo Enterprises currently owns and runs the historic Brixton Markets. This has enabled them to work closely with the London Borough of Lambeth, who are developing an area wide masterplan for the regeneration of Brixton Central. This includes looking sympathetically at how commercial development and regeneration can work together to create vibrant public spaces that the public want to use, that dovetail with viable development opportunities which are sustainable, creating jobs and providing much needed public amenity to the local area. These will lead to the improved use of the under ground space currently occupied by the NCP car park and the increased usability of the Square itself alongside wider public realm improvements. The DBA is produced in support of a planning application to demolish the existing structure and erect a new ground floor plus five-storey building and the creation of a basement. Through the course of this desk-based assessment it has become clear that the site lies on a road that has existed at least since the Roman period. As can be seen from Ralph Agas Civitas Londinium (fig.8), in the 1570s, Old Street still lay outside the city walls, and it wasn’t until 1658 (fig.9) that the site appears to have been built upon. By the mid-18th century (fig.14) there was more concentrated urban development in the study area. Richard Horwood’s Plan of London and Westminster 1799 (fig.15) provides the first clear cartographical representation of ‘Tilney Court’ and the associated building on the site of 134 Old Street. The format of street frontage building and rear court appears to have remained largely unchanged to the present day. The site is considered to hold low potential for archaeological remains from the Prehistoric to Saxon periods apart from chance isolated finds.
