Wir leben alle mit dem Ziel, glücklich zu werden. Wir leben alle verschieden und doch gleich.« Anne Frank, 6. Juli 1944 Anne Frank war ein jüdisches Mädchen aus Frankfurt am Main. Sie wurde am 12. Juni 1929 geboren. Als die Partei der Nationalsozialisten, die NSDAP, im Jahr 1933 an die Anne schrieb in ihrem Tagebuch über Themen, die für sie wichtig Macht kam, beschlossen Annes Eltern Deutschland zu verlassen. Sie entschieden sich waren. In diesem Teil der Ausstellung findest du vier Gedanken- für die Niederlande und gingen nach Amsterdam. Dort lebten sie in Sicherheit, bis die inseln, die sich mit diesen Themen beschäftigen. Hier kommen deutsche Armee im Zweiten Weltkrieg die Niederlande besetzte. Anne Frank und fünf Berliner Jugendliche zu Wort, die ungefähr so alt sind wie Anne während ihrer Zeit im Versteck. Um der Verhaftung zu entgehen versteckten sich die Franks und vier weitere Personen in einem Hinterhaus. Es gehörte zu Otto Franks Firma »Opekta« in der Prinsengracht 265. Vier Angestellte versorgten die Untergetauchten mit Lebensmitteln und anderen wichtigen Dingen. Dort schrieb Anne Frank ihr Tagebuch. Etwas mehr als zwei Jahre Gehe zu den Hörstationen und Ausstellungswänden in den Inseln. Verschaffe dir zunächst einen Überblick. Auf der unten lebten die Untergetauchten im Hinterhaus, bis sie verraten und verhaftet wurden. Von stehenden Skizze siehst du, worum es in den Inseln geht. Beschäftige dich anschließend mit einem der vier Bereiche den acht Versteckten überlebte nur Anne Franks Vater Otto. -

Anne Frank Remembered This Academy Award winning documentary follows the life of Anne Frank through the back room of 263 Prinsengracht (where the Frank family lived in hiding), to the Westbrook and Auschwitz concentration camps. The film features interviews with Miep Gies, the woman who helped hide the Frank family, Hanneli Goslar and Jaqueline van Maarsen, two of Anne Frank’s friends as well as archival interviews with Otto Frank. The film also features the only known film footage of Anne Frank. 122 min. There Once Was a Town In 1941, 3,500 Jews were brutally murdered in the small town of Eishyshok, Poland. Fifty-six years later, a bus load of survivors return to Eishyshok "to awaken old memories and confront long-silenced ghosts." 90 min. Into the Arms of Strangers: Stories of the Kindertransport In the late 1930’s, just before the outbreak of WWII, England agreed to accept 10,000 Jewish children seeking safe haven from Nazi cruelty, a rescue effort referred to as the Kindertransport. Into the Arms of Strangers is an Academy Award winning documentary about this lesser-known story of the Holocaust. 122 min. The Lost Children of Berlin The Lost Children of Berlin chronicles the 1994 reunion of the classmates from the last Jewish school to be shutdown by the Nazi Gestapo in 1941. -

Inleiding In 1986 publiceerde het Rijksinstituut voor Oorlogsdocumentatie - nu Nederlands Instituut voor Oorlogsdocumentatie (NIOD - De Dagboeken van Anne Frank. In deze kritische uitgave (samengesteld door Harry Paape ( 2001), Gerrold van der Stroom en David Barnouw) waren alle toentertijd bekende dagboekaantekeningen van Anne Frank opgenomen. In de inleiding was een hoofdstuk gewijd aan de achtergronden van het verraad van de familie Frank en haar medeonderduikers. De conclusie was dat er geen verrader aangewezen kon worden. Intussen zijn twee boeken uitgekomen, van Melissa Müller, Anne Frank. De Biografie (1998) en van Carol Ann Lee, Het verborgen leven van Otto Frank (2002), die elk met een nieuwe verraadthese komen. De laatste komt bovendien met een chantagethese, die te maken heeft met de onderneming van de vader van Anne, Otto Frank. Het NIOD besloot daarom een vervolgonderzoek in te stellen dat zich op de volgende zaken richt: a het naast elkaar zetten van de tot nu toe genoemde verraadthesen en een beoordeling van de mogelijkheden en onmogelijkheden en b chantagemogelijkheden tijdens en na de oorlog, mede gezien de rol van Otto Frank bij de bedrijfsvoering van Opekta, Pectacon en Gies & Co tijdens en na de oorlog. -

ANA FRANK DIARIO Diario Ana Frank 2 de junio de 1942 Espero poder confiártelo todo como aún no lo he podido hacer con nadie, y espero que seas para mí un gran apoyo. 28 de setiembre de 1942 (Añadido) Hasta ahora has sido para mí un gran apoyo, y también Kitty, a quien escribo regularmente. Esta manera de escribir en mi diario me agrada mucho más y ahora me cuesta esperar cada vez a que llegue el momento para sentarme a escribir en ti. ¡Estoy tan contenta de haberte traído conmigo! Domingo, 14 de junio de 1942 Lo mejor será que empiece desde el momento en que te recibí, o sea, cuando te vi en la mesa de los regalos de cumpleaños (porque también presencié el momento de la compra, pero eso no cuenta). El viernes 12 de junio, a las seis de la mañana ya me había despertado, lo que se entiende, ya que era mi cumpleaños. Pero a las seis todavía no me dejan levantarme, de modo que tuve que contener mi curiosidad hasta las siete menos cuarto. Entonces ya no pude más: me levanté y me fui al comedor, donde Moortje1, el gato, me recibió haciéndome carantoñas. Poco después de las siete fui a saludar a papá y mamá y luego al salón, a desenvolver los regalos, lo primero que vi fuiste tú, y quizá hayas sido uno de mis regalos más bonitos. Luego un ramo de rosas y dos ramas de peonías. Ideals and Hopes **** I Thank You God Gwyneth Walker **** Program Notes Anne Frank: A Living Voice was commissioned by the San Francisco Girls Chorus (SFGC) in celebration of its Silver Anniversary. The text is based upon excerpts from The Diary of Anne Frank, taken from the 1952 and 1991 English translations of the book. The full musical work was premiered in 2004 by the San Francisco Girls Chorus. Anne Frank was between the ages of 13 and 15 when she wrote her Diary, while living in a secret upstairs annex over a warehouse in Amsterdam with her family, the Van Pels family and Fritz Pfeffer. Despite the fears and frustrations she experienced in over two years of hiding from the Nazis, Anne learned how to survive, even to find beauty in small things and to hold on to her ideals. Composer Linda Tutas Haugen writes: “My goals for this composition are to honor the life of Anne Frank and to gain a deeper understanding of what she, her family, and friends experienced during the Holocaust.” The text excerpts are chronologically arranged, and span more than two years. -

An Investigative Report on the Betrayal and Arrest of the Inhabitants of the Secret Annex Gertjan Broek Anne Frank House Collections Department / Knowledge Centre October 2016 I Introduction One of the most frequently asked questions about the history of Anne Frank and the inhabitants of the Secret Annex is: Who actually betrayed them? This question continues to fascinate people. The Anne Frank House (AFH) still regularly receives suggestions, usually singling out specific individuals. These suggestions are always taken seriously but so far have not provided useful leads. And, of course, here at the Anne Frank House this question is always present in the background. In recent years, the AFH has made more of a commitment to focus on conducting its own research, so this matter is now part of the Knowledge Centre’s research program. Premise and Background This investigative report is based on the premise that only one thing can be agreed on with certainty: on August 4, 1944, members of the Sicherheitsdienst or SD (German Security Service) raided the building at 263 Prinsengracht and arrested ten people. It is an assumption – granted a sound one – that this was not a chance occurrence. Obviously, the building had been selected for a reason. Yet, on what information that raid was based and how the SD got that information is still completely unclear. Whether this was a matter of betrayal, committed deliberately or not, is also an assumption. It remains to be seen if an analysis of the available data convincingly supports this decade-old theory. Shortly after the liberation, Otto Frank and the helpers took steps to identify those who might have been responsible for the betrayal. -

Anne Frank House Annual Report 2019 The Anne Frank House is an independent organisation dedicated to the preservation of the place where Anne Frank went into hiding and wrote her diary during the Second World War. The organisation brings the life story and the work of Anne Frank to the attention of as many people as possible worldwide, partly with the aim of raising awareness of the dangers of antisemitism, racism and discrimination and the importance of freedom, equal rights and democracy. Foreword More than 1.3 million people from all over the world visited the Anne Frank House in 2019, as you will read in this annual report. How much the situation has changed! The world is going through an unprecedented crisis, which has an enormous impact on people everywhere, and also on the Anne Frank House. As part of the global effort to stop the spread of the coronavirus, we had to close the doors to the museum on 13th March. Since its opening on 3 May 1960, the number of visitors has grown almost every year. From several tens of thousands in the first years, to the record number of 1.3 million visitors in 2019. People from all over the world come to the Anne Frank House and, through the bookcase, enter the empty spaces of the Secret Annex, where the Frank family, the Van Pels family, and Fritz Pfeffer hid from the Nazis for more than two years. These are the 25 months Anne Frank describes so poignantly in her diary. This year, the upward trend of visitor numbers came to an end around the 60th anniversary of the House.
