A convict, living alone on an asteroid, receives from the police a realistic woman-robot. Notify me of new comments via email. Live Dates. The chorus is especially effective, with heavier keys and guitars, but also grittier and more aggressive vocals as well. Season 1 Episode 7. Edit page. Like his Arena bandmate Clive Nolan, Mitchell is able pigeonhole his ideas so different projects have different musical identities, yet in all cases one knows it will be enjoyable, melodic, well played and produced, and just plain fun. The high point of the album for me comes from the final two tracks. In fact, Mitchell himself said he doesn't think his work is strictly "neo-prog". If ever there was a example of less is more then this is it, with the bass coming in and out, the same with the drums, and there is just so much space within this that one can relax inside with a smile. Contrast that to "Life Is A Sine Wave", which has far more punch and vigour, although it again shifts and moves in different styles? Narrator voice. Sebastian Bach Confirms U. You are commenting using your WordPress. There's a few exceptional standout moments on the disc as well. A young kid, in a room, with a guitar. It is sung without backing music, but a vocal effect is added to give him a more robotic sound. Apart from drums, John does everything on this album, which in many ways is comparable to the work of Devin Townsend except far more melodic and not nearly as dense. There are still a lot of people who believe me, and it happens to be the Songwriting 7. I have worked with him so much that there was nobody else in the frame. Overall, I think this is the best Lonely Robot album so far, a record that definitely deserves your full attention because it is quite revealing and really sheltering towards the listener, an album that was obviously done quickly but carefully crafted. Love the weird unsettling groove. Next, we have "Ancient Ascendant", starting off with heavy riff, accompained by Liam Holmes's ingrained beneath keyboards, adding tension. For me the highlights of the album are the two ballads "Crystalline," and "The Silent Life", both with deep lyrics and great piano accompaniment, "Life is a Sine Wave" with fantastic guitar performance and catchy chorus, and finally my favorite of the album "Armour for my heart". I realise that comparisons are odious, but there must be thousands of die-hard It Bites fans asking whether they can reach to this album for fulfillment, since it is all they are being offered for now. One of the very best of the series. It starts with heavy guitars and scintillating keyboards that step into a subdued verse. Four stars to Feelings are good by Lonely Robot an excellent addition to any prog rock music collection. John also masterminded the bands Kino and The Urbane and played bass for alternative rock band A. Hollywood Icons, Then and Now. Give this man a raise. Studio Album, 3. Mitchell remains firmly within his comfort zone: an arena of nostalgic prog-rock arrangements of keyboards and guitars that boasts a thick gloss of sci-fi synth keys and vocal effects. Equal parts prog and shining pop melodies, the combination works very well. This is probably the heaviest song on the album. Lonely Robot. A pardon, Allenby. Solid album. His mastery on the fretboard is evident throughout the album, with complex guitar solos featuring in most of the songs; his solos come closest to the virtuosity some prog fans may crave. Convicted criminal, James Corry's been placed in a very unusual form of solitary confinement; he's alone on an asteroid 9 million miles from Earth. Apparently the new album is the second in a trilogy, so one can only imagine where the storyline will lead us next time around. There really are lines and themes that make us question our nature as human beings. The sonic intensity of the album varies from song to song, but they all have a glimmering, almost dreamlike sheen, whether it is a heavier song or a ballad. I do not believe that Mitchell will for one second deny the influence that his late friend has had on his career, and that is to be found throughout his work, but none more so than in this song. Yet another album which is well worth investigating. The Very Lonely Robot Reviews Learn how your comment data is processed. Lara Model. Captain Allenby. Outstanding script treats Warden's predicament in unusually intelligent, thoughtful manner, providing at the same time some insight into ordinary human frailties. Lonely Robot Lonely Robot. It juxtaposes the full and angry sound of 'Inside This Machine' as it strips everything back to just keyboards, piano and Mitchell's warm vocals. Contrast that to "Life Is A Sine Wave", which has far more punch and vigour, although it again shifts and moves in different styles? Armour For My Heart 7. Four stars. Equal parts prog and shining pop melodies, the combination works very well. Into The Lo-fi swiftly follows the opener and is simply a bundle of energy. John Mitchell is one of the best at what he does, and Lonely Robot is the perfect outlet for an almost Patreon-like source of top-notch song production coming from this extremely talented and knowledgeable songcrafter, musician, and singer. But alas, take this back! So, just two tracks in, and Feelings Are Good is a mixed affair which, regrettably, is an apt description for its remaining runtime. He frankly dislikes much of the metal scene's endless coma inducing blast beats, repetitive riffs, and stereotypical lyrics. He is a highly accomplished guitarist, singer and composer and should, quite frankly, be far more famous than he is. Several of the songs are slower and more introspective, and this is one of the songs that trades the heavy guitars and intensity for a more subdued approach. This is a feature of many of the songs on the album, they could be likened to a selection of catchy pop songs due to the typical verse-chorus structure and lyrical melody lines. Keys of course still play a major part of the sound, but it is the guitars that drive the song along. The enormous sadness of this reprise closes with an interstellar sound effect that gives a visual context to the aural emotions being experienced. The track ends after a short, more punchy solo. The Very Lonely Robot Read Online That and pounding drums of Craig Blundell who gives at times a subtle, and other times thunderous performance throughout the song. Contrast that to "Life Is A Sine Wave", which has far more punch and vigour, although it again shifts and moves in different styles? Army Of One Any prog fans that are sceptical of this album should definitely give it a chance because there are some really promising moments. Not to be entirely ignored, the CD version comes with three bonus tracks. There's a few exceptional standout moments on the disc as well. You are commenting using your Facebook account. Cancel Save. So, just two tracks in, and Feelings Are Good is a mixed affair which, regrettably, is an apt description for its remaining runtime. She's human-like in every way, but Corry can't but see her as a machine. The rest of the songs are also good and deserve to be heard. The subject matter of this album is extremely personal and contains a well-crafted mixture of mid-tempo progressive rock pieces and some beautiful lighter rock ballads. On top of that, I love the idea of a radio station that would reflect his views on life and cut through the bullshit which seems to be all over politics. I must fall into repetition but this track is also one of the best that John Mitchell ever released, a real gem in the Lonely Robot discography. This song will make your heart ache. I don't want any gifts. But in the meantime, Feelings Are Good is perfectly deserving of personal music rotation as the world continues to stay at home and either bury or overly embrace its various feelings, both good and bad. PERFORMED IDENTITIES: HEAVY METAL MUSICIANS BETWEEN 1984 AND 1991 Bradley C. Brown, Advisor Dr. John Makay Graduate Faculty Representative Dr. Ron E. Shields Dr. Don McQuarie © 2007 Bradley C. Klypchak All Rights Reserved iii ABSTRACT Dr. Jeffrey A. Brown, Advisor Between 1984 and 1991, heavy metal became one of the most publicly popular and commercially successful rock music subgenres. The focus of this dissertation is to explore the following research questions: How did the subculture of heavy metal music between 1984 and 1991 evolve and what meanings can be derived from this ongoing process? How did the contextual circumstances surrounding heavy metal music during this period impact the performative choices exhibited by artists, and from a position of retrospection, what lasting significance does this particular era of heavy metal merit today? A textual analysis of metal- related materials fostered the development of themes relating to the selective choices made and performances enacted by metal artists. These themes were then considered in terms of gender, sexuality, race, and age constructions as well as the ongoing negotiations of the metal artist within multiple performative realms. Occurring at the juncture of art and commerce, heavy metal music is a purposeful construction. Metal musicians made performative choices for serving particular aims, be it fame, wealth, or art. These same individuals worked within a greater system of influence. Metal bands were the contracted employees of record labels whose own corporate aims needed to be recognized.

  • Arcansiel - Swimming in the Sand
arcsits Arcansiel - Swimming In The Sand It has been ten years since Italian band Arcansiel released an album and that was Normality Of Perversion in 1994. 2004 sees the release of Swimming In The Sand, which is a sort of 'best of' compilation. I say 'sort of' because five of the six tracks here have appeared on past studio albums but, for this release, the band returned to the studio in 2003 to re-record the songs. With so much progressive rock to choose from these days, those of us with limited time (and finances) can not be expected to be familiar with everything out there so tend to stick with music from bands we know. A compilation such as this makes a lot of sense, giving those you have yet to hear the band a selection of the best tracks and for the existing fans of Arcansiel, a new version of these tracks. The band personnel has changed once again but original guitarist Gianni Opezzo is still there, Sandro Marinoni (tenor sax, flute) is back and Paolo Baltaro (vocals, bass, drums, keyboards, bagpipes) who joined the band for Normality, remains. Arcansiel came onto the scene at the time when Fish period Marillion was coming to an end and http://www.hairlessheartherald.co.uk/arcsits.htm (1 of 2)27/07/2004 17.42.11 arcsits inevitably they got labelled as neo prog with seventies influences from Genesis to PFM and Banco. Perhaps the neo prog tag fitted at the beginning of the band's career but it was polished neo prog, lacking the harshness of typical neo prog of the time.

  • It Bites – the Tall Ships / Map of the Past
Vier Jahr später folgte der Nachfolger „Map Of The Past“ mitLee Pomeroy als neuen Bassisten. Beide Alben liegen nun als Reissue in remastertem Format mit jeweils zwei Bonustracks (Material der Special Editions bzw. Single B-Seiten: ‚These Words‘, ‚When I Fall‘, ‚Lighthouse‘, ‚Come On‘) vor. Weiterhin sind beide Ausgaben erstmals auch im Vinylformat erhältlich. Zwar versuchte man auf beiden Alben in gewissem Maße die Tradition von It Bites wiederzubeleben, doch klingt vieles eher nach Kino, dem Bandprojekt, bei dem sowohl John Mitchell, als auch John Beck beteiligt sind und waren, sowie dem einige Jahre später folgenden Soloprojekt Lonely Robot von John Mitchell.

Blogcritics.org: DVD Review: Arena - Smoke & Mirrors Page 1 of 5 A sinister cabal of superior bloggers on music, books, film, popular culture, technology, and politics. REVIEW DVD Review: Arena - Smoke & Mirrors May 19, 2006 Paul Roy On September 22nd, 2005, at the Wyspianski Theatre in Katowice, Poland, British neo- progressive rockers Arena celebrated their 10th anniversary and filmed this excellent, two- hour, career-spanning concert, which comes to you as Smoke & Mirrors. This concert features the same lineup of Clive Nolan (keyboards), Mick Pointer (drums), Rob Sowden (vocals), John Mitchell (guitars), and Ian Salmon (bass), that appeared on their last concert DVD, 2003's Caught In The Act, and have now miraculously been together since 1999. After overcoming numerous personnel changes, during the band's first four years, it appears that things have finally stabilized in the Arena camp. Although not one of my favorite progressive-rock bands, Arena have consistently churned out high-quality music, since their 1995 debut, Songs From The Lions Cage. Each album unfolds with complex moods, and dramatic concepts that blend elements of symphonic- prog, metal, and classic-rock, and often demand repeated listens to fully absorb all that is being unraveled before you. My reaction to the band mostly mirrors what you see from the remarkably subdued audiences on each of their DVDs. Rarely do they rise from the comfort of their theater seats, or manage more than a few polite claps. Not your typical rock concert vibe. Some of the band's performances can be quite uninspiring, while others, such as "The Hanging Tree", "Solomon", and, the always climactic, "Crying For Help VII", can be downright http://blogcritics.org/archives/2006/05/19/105044.php 5/25/2006 Blogcritics.org: DVD Review: Arena - Smoke & Mirrors Page 2 of 5 amazing.

  • Also Eden News
Also Eden News Also Eden welcome Rich Harding posted 18 Jan 2010 Finding a replacement for Huw has proved to be no easy task. Huw co-founded Also Eden and naturally, his voice has defined so much of the bands sound. However, we’re delighted to announce that we have found a new singer to take us in a new and exciting direction. Rich Harding has been singing live since 1985, fronting bands as diverse as The Allnight Chemists (space rock), Sane (prog) and Twisted (heavy metal). For the last few years he has also been performing with a number of successful Marillion "tribute" bands, in the UK and on the continent (Misplaced Neighbourhood, Lords of the Backstage and Skyline Drifters). His voice is very different to Huw’s - but he has power, energy and enthusiasm and we know he’s going to make a huge impact on the band’s sound this year. Rich says: 'Having only done tribute gigs - fun though they are - in the four years since leaving Twisted, I've been searching for the right opportunity to get my creative juices flowing again and am delighted to be joining Also Eden. I've immensely enjoyed getting to grips with some of the existing material and am excited to be working with rest of the band on the next steps forward.' Also Eden will now be working feverishly on a new EP to be available circa-May 2010 where we’ll have some new, and some more familiar (yet very different!) material for you to enjoy! As ever, thank you for your continued support and enthusiasm.

  • Arena Biographie
The Salt and The Sand 10 ans d'Arena En 2005, Arena célébrait l'anniversaire de la sortie de leur premier album, Songs from the Lion's Cage, sorti en 1995.

South Fork Flathead Watershed Westslope Cutthroat Trout Conservation Program Draft Environmental Impact Statement Responsible Agency: U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), Bonneville Power Administration (BPA) Cooperating Agencies: U.S. Department of Agriculture, Forest Service (FS) and State of Montana Fish, Wildlife, and Parks (MFWP) Department Title of Proposed Project: South Fork Flathead Watershed Westslope Cutthroat Trout Conservation Program State Involved: Montana Abstract: In cooperation with MFWP, BPA is proposing to implement a conservation program to preserve the genetic purity of the westslope cutthroat trout populations in the South Fork of the Flathead drainage. The South Fork Flathead Watershed Westslope Cutthroat Trout Conservation Program constitutes a portion of the Hungry Horse Mitigation Program. The purpose of the Hungry Horse Mitigation Program is to mitigate for the construction and operation of Hungry Horse Dam through restoring habitat, improving fish passage, protecting and recovering native fish populations, and reestablishing fish harvest opportunities. The target species for the Hungry Horse Mitigation Program are bull trout, westslope cutthroat trout, and mountain whitefish. The program is designed to preserve the genetically pure fluvial and adfluvial westslope cutthroat trout (Oncorhynchus clarki lewisi) populations in the South Fork drainage of the Flathead River. In order to accomplish the goals, MFWP is proposing to remove hybrid trout from identified lakes in the South Fork Flathead drainage on the Flathead National Forest and replace them with genetically pure native westslope cutthroat trout over the next 10-12 years. Some of these lakes occur within the Bob Marshall Wilderness and Jewel Basin Hiking Area. Currently, 21 lakes and their outflow streams with hybrid populations have been identified and are included in this proposal.

The charity was founded by Egremont musician Francis hishis heroes to help Dunnery in memory of his parents. And their major fund -raising weekend starts on Friday October 24, with a dinner and welcome party at Summergrove. Mark said: “Fans of Francis’ come from al l over the world to spend the weekend in his home town and help us raise cash for local kids. “We have raised £25,000 over the past few years, which is remarkable, and it has all gone back into helping kids in the local community.” CKDCF was Sellafield L td’s charity of the year in 2007, with £2,007 donated by the company. Mark added: “We always get plenty of support from the site, whether it’s by the communications team promoting our events or the contractors or company sponsoring prizes when we have com petitions. “And obviously lots of people on site either come and enjoy the events or help me out in some way with the organising. It is great that the community pulls together to help itself in this way. “Obviously it is Francis’ charity but he can’t ru n things day to day, I’m glad to be able to help.” Mark’s work behind the scenes has been recognised with a nomination for the outstanding achievement award at the up -coming Copeland Pride Awards.

“It Bites is a band that started in England in 1984 and sort of best known for one song basically in England, a song called Calling all the Heroes. They started out an out-and-out pop band like Duran Duran but then for the next album Once Around the World they sort of outed themselves as massive prog rockers which probably came as a bit of a chock to the record company, they were on a major label at the time called Virgin Records.
