18 * School Board Old and New Administrators Lead The Way

Mr. Maile, our new assistant principal, came here from Plymouth-Salem High School where he was a chemistry teacher. He came to Northville High School to make a difference and change the school in a positive way. He enjoys working at NHS because he feels that our size makes us more family oriented. His education includes a bachelor's degree in Science Education and an associate degree in Psychology. His initial degrees were completed at U of M Dearborn and he is currently working on his EDS specialist degree at Eastern Michigan University. He has also been invited into the EMU doctoral program. When he's not bogged down with students (especially con cerning tardies and absences) he takes on the special challenge of trying to influence the school. When he's not dealing with students he enjoys jogging and the occasional guitar playing. He also loves spend ing time with his wife, Cathy, and his three children: Michael (14), Angela (12), and Jennifer (8).

One of our newest chemistry teachers is Mr. Slattery. He attended Warren Technological Institute for three years to study Engineering. From there he Dennis Slattery transferred to Wayne State University where he received a bachelor's degree in science education and math education. He enjoys teaching at Northville because of his student interaction and the fact that he can count on some thing new all the time. He loves Northville's small town attitude and the comeraderie of the NHS staff. One disgruntlement with teaching would be the homework. As a student, two of his teachers led him to where he is today. His seventh grade science teacher, Mr. Ryan, interested him in the subject. He recalls one incident where the students made maple syrup from tree sap they collected. They then added it to mini pancakes and fed it to the lab animals. Mr. Slattery also enjoyed his high school math teacher, Mr. Saroka because he was the first person to speak to him as an adult and was not out to get the students. In his spare time Mr. Slattery enjoys golf, water sports, and camping. He also enjoys going home to his wife LaDorma who John Edwards he has been married to since March 11, 1995. If Mr. Slattery could tell seniors to retain one piece of information it would be that you need maturity to succeed. "You'll get nothing in life unless you do it yourself."

The End of a Memory

Time falls like a light mist on the bridge, ready to fade away, but easy to remember. The sun and its gallant rays lead us through the pathways which open the door to experiences never forgotten, retained for a lifetime growing at a degree, mentally and physically. We advanced rapidly, guided by the river of determination excelling to the sea of happiness and success. We stand together, our differences do not let us part for we belong to a group labeled by age, recognized through time as the senior class of 1995. Do not forget the times we shared, for we will not receive another chance to express the feelings of our dance.

By: Jason M aclver

What's the craziest thing a teacher has ever done? Mr. Balcoff said "okay" at least 100 times during class. —Melanie Bliss Mr. Urban let us out of class 30 minutes before the bell rang one day in 10th grade when w had a different lunch. -Chris Kull Repeated the word "Ah" while looking at the ceiling 476 times in 1 hour. —Cathy Koster One day when Mr. Slattery subbed for Ms. Zidell, he threw a plastic bottle at the garbage can and missed. —David McCulloch Told my sister that the quotation marks on her paper were backwards and told us to get a new computer that had the marks the right way! —Katrina Heckemeyer 128 * Seniors Naive and misguided we crossed the bridge for the first time, leaving the top of our mountain to climb another. Two middle school rivals unified as one realizing the memories were yet to come.

The first day of school, with nerves, ablaze, we wandered the halls like rats in a maze. Our first challenge arrived: to build the Homecoming float. too bad it barely stood, that poor Billy Goat! That Friday night was over and we were glad but only to get a ride to the dance from Mom and Dad.

Summer came and all too soon we were Sophomores with a new attitude. No longer at the bottom of the pile our experiences would push us that extra mile.

This time our King Kong took second place Seniors stole first with a grin on their face. Pay-to-play saved the day even though it wasn't our parents favorite way. We began to dissect pigs with a gross fright, but by the end, we cut them apart with delight. Then catne the food fight, making us smell causing the administration to yell!

We cruised into Junior year, parking on Baseline, oh that fortunate road so near. The Homecoming excitement was here once more with a Star Trek float that just didn't score. But that's no big deal! Our football was at its best "To the dome," we must go - we fought without rest. On graduation day, we said good-bye to the Class of 1994 realizing we didn't have much more until we would be in their spot.

Senior year finally came "Finally," we thought, "it’s our time to rule!" Wc were at the top, this was our school! Homecoming was going to be our time, our turn to win we couldn't believe it the Nields beat us again! "That's OK,"we figured, "We'll get 'em during the Spirit Week gig!" But we lost once more this things gotta be rigged.

First semester, we thought. "Will this ever end?" Mr. Dent, Humanities and his jokes we did tend But finals came and Kirmis shaved his head while mixed emotions of future plans were shed. Friends forever, out motto still stands as we group together hand in hand. For now, new dreams are growing clear but we must remember to keep our high school memories dear.

Mrs. Nancy Brown decided she wanted to teach in the seventh grade. After working for her degree at Eastern Michigan Univer sity, the University of Maryland, the University of Missouri, and the University of Strasbourg, she began teaching elementary school in Kansas City. After teaching all grades in Missouri, Maryland, and Michigan, she arrived at NHS in 1970. In 1978, Mrs. Brown took a leave of absence to accompany her husband in France. She returned over a year later to resume teaching and become Department Chair of the English Department. In addition to her work with students' writing, Mrs. Brown taught both the History and Literature sections of the Humanities class, bringing cooperative learning to the Forum. Former students remember Mrs. Brown's classes as challenging with the eradication of "Engfish" and entertaining as she shared her memories of growing up in Flint, travelling in Egypt, and serving on jury duty. Humani ties students will always remember Mrs. Brown acting out the Ecstasy of St. Theresa—her favorite piece of art. Mrs. Brown is closely linked to the Northville community with her family living in the community and her two daughters, Sheri and Carolyn, having attended Northville schools. Mrs. Brown and her husband Bill will be traveling to Arizona to spend time with her daughter Mrs. Nancy Brown was honored as Creative Writing Sheri and her grandson Wesley. Life's a happy game You could clown around forever Neither one of you sees Your natural boundaries Life is one happy game. If only the world wouldn't get in the way If only people would just let you play And say you're both being fools You're breaking all the rules They can't understand The magic of your wonderland. When you're the best of friends Sharing all that you discover When those moments have passed Will that friendship last Who can say There's a way Oh I hope I hope it never ends...'Cause you're the best of friends!
