ITALY on SCREEN TODAY NEW YORK |19 - 22 Ottobre ITALY ON SCREEN TODAY NEW YORK |19 - 22 ottobre The Italian film festival bursts in New York The Minister Dario Franceschini will attending the opening conference Screenings include the MigrArti short film project supported by MIBACT and by UNAR, and a tribute dedicated to Dario Fo and his unparalleled talent. Sergio Castellitto will receive the “Nino Manfredi Art Excellence Award”, and Vittorio Storaro the Wind of Europe International Award From October 19th to the 22nd, New York will host the second edition of “Italy On Screen Today”, an Italian film festival screening major box office hits, with some of their actors and directors happy to share their anecdotes about these films. This event, conceived and directed by Loredana Commonara, with the support of Giuliana Ridolfi Cardillo in NY and coordinated by Sarah Masten, will be held at the Proshansky Auditorium, at the New York University Casa Italiana Zerilli Marimò and at the Stony Brook University in Long Island; “Italy On Screen Today” was organized thanks to the contribution of the Ministry of Cul- tural Heritage and Tourism, with the support of the Italian Consulate in New York, in collaboration with RAI Cinema, the John D. Calandra Institute, Queens, under the high patronage of the European Parliament and of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and In- ternational Cooperation. The Minister of Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism Dario Franceschini will attend the opening press conference at the Italian Consulate in New York the 18th of Octo- ber, where the festival program will be presented, as well as the guests of this second edition will be announced: Sergio Castellitto, who, on October 20th, will present in his quality of director and actor the movie ‘Non ti Muovere’ from Margaret Mazzantini’s homonymous novel and who will receive the Nino Manfredi Art Excellence Award, a new award launched together with the family of this unparallel actor, an unequalled and never forgotten symbol of Italian cinema; the multi-award winning director of photography Vittorio Stora- ro, who won three Oscars® (Apocalypse Now, Reds and The last emperor) and who is now working in Woody Allen’s last film now being shot in New York. Storaro worked with the most relevant and successful filmmakers of all times and will receive the Wind of Europe International Award under the auspices of the European Parliament, an award given to symbols of Europe’s fundamental values such as brotherhood and multiculturalism. The novelties of “Italy on Screen Today” include the screening of MigrArti (on October 19 at the NYU Casa Italiana Zerilli-Marimò), a call designed and supported by the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activites and Tourism to develop film projects on the cultural values of the populations migrating to Italy so as to promote intercultural dialogue and exchanges; Paolo Masini, project creator and coordinator and one of the advisors to the Minister Dario Franceschini, will introduce a selection of seven short films presented during the 74th Ven- ice Film Festival - La Recita (MigrArti Cinema 2017 Award - Best Film), Ambaradam, L’amore senza motivo, La macchia, Nella Yugosfera, Sara, La giraffa senza gamba, devel- oped by associations and production companies to narrate stories and different cultures in the process of their integration into the Italian society and the life of these “new Italians”. Andrea Bartoli, representative of the Sant’Egidio Community at the UN will partecipate in the discussion and share his experience working with refugees. October 19 and 20 will also be dedicated to Dario Fo, one year after his death and twenty years after his Literature No- bel Prize Award. This tribute is designed to show the American audience and revive the memory of this amazing Italian talent, one of the most popular European theatre authors in the U.S. who followed the tradition of Medieval jesters (according to the wording of the Nobel Prize motivation). Dario Fo will be remembered through the documentary Dario Fo and Franca Rame: A Nobel for two directed by Lorena Luciano and Filippo Piscopo ded- icated to this couple, united in life and on stage as well as by “Sweet Democracy”, featuring Fo’s extraordinary participation by director Michele Diomà and the co-production of Don- ald Ranvaud (Palme d’Or in Cannes for Farewell my Concubine), that tries to satirically an- alyse the degree of freedom of expression in Italy. The directors Lorena Luciano and Filippo Piscopo together with Michele Diomà will be in New York to share their special memories with the audience. Finally, the other feature films of the 2017 edition will be screened on October 21st and 22nd at the Stony Brook University in Long Island: Venuto al mondo directed by Sergio Castellitto Il padre d’Italia, the second work of fiction by Fabio Mollo with Luca Marinelli and Isabella Ragonese; La corrispondenza, the last film by Giuseppe Tornatore with Jere- my Irons as the protagonist; La pazza gioia, directed by Paolo Virzì, a multi-award winning film, highly rated by both critics and the audience; La stoffa dei sogni by Gianfranco Cabiddu, that won the David di Donatello Award for Best Screenplay and the Golden Globe for Best Film; and Tutto quello che vuoi, directed by Francesco Bruni with Giuliano Mon- taldo playing the role of an amnesic old man and his special friendship with an impertinent young man. .

    2.5. El cine de Ettore Scola Valeriano Durán Manso 2.5.1. Introducción Italia cuenta con una historia del cine muy particular. Es un país en el que siempre ha habido una gran sensibilidad a la hora de contar historias, algo que se ha dado de igual forma en la literatura o en la música. Esta característica permite hablar de una cinematografía con mayúsculas pues el cine italiano es, junto con el americano, el que ha tenido mayor proyección internacional y el que ha dado mayores éxitos en el ámbito europeo a nivel de directores, actores o productores. Como si de Hollywood se tratara, en los años veinte se construyó Cinecittá, una nueva ciudad dentro de Roma equipada para la realización de películas, es decir, para fabricar sueños y este elemento supone un revolución total en el ámbito de la realización en el viejo continente. En un principio, el cine italiano se enfocó mucho a las películas históricas, una etapa que se superó en la década de los treinta, a través de películas como Cabiria (1914), Los últimos días de Pompeya (1925) o Escipión el africano (1937). Con la llegada de la II Guerra Mundial, el cine cambió debido a la concienciación social que los cineastas tomaron tras la contienda y esto supuso una revolución internacional en el ámbito cinematográfico. De esta manera, el Neorrealismo se convirtió en el reflejo de la realidad italiana pues existía una necesidad de narrar lo que ocurría en las familias, en el mundo laboral y, en definitiva, había un gran interés por contar al mundo la situación de Italia tras la guerra.

    RAI CINEMA – INTERVENTO PER LA COMMISSIONE SENATO 02/07/2020 IL CINEMA DOPO L’EMERGENZA Il cinema, parte fondamentali dell’industria culturale italiana, è tra i settori più colpiti dalla crisi scaturita dall’emergenza Covid. I set si sono dovuti fermare per diversi mesi e le sale cinematografiche sono state chiuse. Si parla di centinaia di aziende, oltre 61.000 lavoratori per le sole attività dirette della produzione ed oltre 172.000 all’interno dell’indotto di primo livello. Sono 1218 i cinema che dovranno ripartire al meglio, per un totale di 3542 schermi. Un comparto che, se considerato nella sua interezza (dalla produzione alle industrie tecniche, dalla distribuzione all’esercizio e ai servizi) è in grado di sviluppare un moltiplicatore economico significativo: ogni euro investito sul cinema riesce infatti a generarne almeno altri quattro. Il cinema è parte dell’economia italiana e quando si pensa ad un film, al prodotto finito, bisognerebbe anche far riferimento all’industria, all’occupazione e alla fiscalità che ne derivano. Ogni singolo film porta con sé una piccola economia sostenuta da maestranze e professionalità, tradizionalmente di altissimo livello in Italia. Far partire la produzione di un film significa ingaggiare un set in cui trovano lavoro in media quaranta persone, cinquanta per le produzioni più importanti, che moltiplicati per il numero dei film complessivi, supportati dal servizio pubblico, si traducono in decine di migliaia di unità impiegate nella realizzazione dei film, senza considerare gli sfruttamenti a valle costituiti da moltissime realtà, anche innovative ed emergenti, che vivono grazie all’esistenza del prodotto cinematografico (distribuzione, esercizio, piattaforme online, etc.).

    Sergio Castellitto: un volto per grandi successi Sergio Castellitto è oggi considerato uno dei massimi attori italiani. E' nato a Roma il 18 agosto 1953 da famiglia molisana (il padre era di Campobasso). Ha frequentato l'Accademia nazionale di arte drammatica "Silvio D'Amico" di Roma, dove si è diplomato nel 1978. La sua carriera artistica è cominciata in teatro, dove ha iniziato a recitare testi di Shakespeare, della commedia dell'arte italiana, "Tre sorelle" di Cechov e "Contessa Giulia" di Strindberg, sotto la guida di grandi registi come Luigi Squarzina e Aldo Trionfo. Il debutto cinematografico nel 1982 con il film "Il generale dell'armata morta" di Luciano Tovoli, con Marcello Mastroianni. Quindi: "Il momento magico" (1984) e "Dolce assenza" (1986). I primi grandi successi di critica e di pubblico nel 1986 con "La famiglia" di Ettore Scola, accanto a Vittorio Gassman e Stefania Sandrelli, e con "Sembra morto ma è solo svenuto" di Felice Farina del 1987, collaborando anche al soggetto e alla sceneggiatura. The festival will run from Nov 21ST to Nov 24TH at the Walter Reade Theater (Lincoln Center) and at the Wang Center of Long Island, with a curated selection of movies showcasing the best of contemporary Italian cinema: over the course of four days we offer great authors, young directors, US and New York premieres and indepth movie analysis. Over the course of the few last years, Italian cinema has become more and more eclectic, able to surprise and renew itself, both in regards of themes and language, while the productions keep making room for new authors, which is a constant stimulus for the spectators and the industry alike. This is why the effort we put into promoting Italian cinema abroad turns into true pleasure. The most awaited appointment of this edition will take place at the Walter Reade Theater (Lincoln Center), where we proudly host the maestro Marco Bellocchio and his renown actor Pierfrancesco Favino.
