These self-initiated health promotion activities involved a series of meetings with the CEO of Ichilov, the head of obstetrics and gynecology, the head nurse, and other physicians, nurses, and support staff at Ichilov Hospital in order to improve care for birthing women. I designed and conducted a study documenting women’s complaints of birthing at Ichilov Hospital and produced a document that was submitted to the CEO of the hospital who then invited me to come work with his team. I volunteered my time to work with the obstetricians, nurses, and administrators on documenting the problems, and designing the solutions to the issues the patients brought up. I met with the team regularly and as a result, changed hospital practices including how complaints about the healthcare team are documented and responded to, communication with patients and families, and training of doctors on communication, sensitivity, and patient autonomy.
