ROLEX AND YACHTING THE CROWN IN SAILING ROLEX AND YACHTING Over the past 60 years, Rolex has forged a privileged relationship with yachting out of a natural affinity with this dynamic nautical sport and its time-honoured values. Today Rolex is the committed partner of the most prestigious yacht clubs, institutions and regattas in the world, sharing the highest standards of excellence with the custodians of yachting’s finest spirit. From the very beginning in 1905, Rolex founder Rolex naturally became associated with activities racers and elite skippers. A dozen clubs now Hans Wilsdorf set out to make wristwatches that shared its excellence, precision and team anchor a series of partnerships which give Rolex that would suit the increasingly active and sport- spirit. The brand gravitated toward the elite world title sponsorship of about 15 major races in the ing lifestyles of the modern world.

So began the Squadron’s great journey with its primary object of promoting and encouraging yachting generally and, in particular, the sport of yacht racing. I am proud to state that the Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron has become one of the world’s leading yacht clubs and 2012 marks its 150th Anniversary. -

We had many great events, both national and international, with good to above average attendance and new sailors joining, including many younger faces. Growing enthusiasm for Dragon sailing can be broadly recognised. However, there are also concerns for the longer-term continuation of this success. The worsening global economic situation - particularly in Europe – has reduced the number of new Dragons built. On the positive side there is a good market for used Dragons, bringing many new sailors to the class. The IDA firmly believes that the overwhelming majority of Dragon sailors are amateurs who adhere to the Corinthian spirit. obligation to strictly adhere to the ISAF and Class Rules meaning Corinthian Trophies are awarded at all major events.
