Application Instructions for 2019 Shandong University Undergraduate Admissions Application Instructions for 2019 Shandong University Undergraduate Admissions I. Eligibility 1. Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens in good physical and mental health, aged between 18 and 25, and possess a valid foreign passport. An enhanced procedure will apply to applicants who will be under the age of 18 at the point of entry. 2. The eligibility for applicants who hold a foreign passport but used to be a Chinese citizen, will be in accordance with Document No.83 (2009) of the PRC Ministry of Education. 3. Educational Background: Applicants for undergraduate programs must have a graduation certificate of a senior high school with good academic performance. Applicants who have not graduated yet must submit an expected graduation certificate / document certified by their current institution. It should contain the expected date of graduation. When admitted to SDU, the applicant must provide an original graduation certificate upon registration. Failure to do so will invalidate their admission offer. II. Application Deadlines June 15th, 2019 (Note: the deadline for Chinese Government Scholarship application is March 31st) III. Application Procedure All the international students must apply via the SDU Online Application System for International Students at http://www.apply.sdu.edu.cn. Chinese Government Scholarship applicants must complete two online applications and one paper-based application by March 31st. First, they must complete online application via the following two systems: 1) SDU Online Application System for International Students at http://www.apply.sdu.edu.cn; 2) CSC Online Application System at http://www.campuschina.org (institution code: 10422). Chinese Government Scholarship applicants must also send their application materials by post to the Admission Office of SDU International Students & Scholars Center. The address is: 27 Shanda Nanlu, Shandong University (Central Campus), Mingde Building, C301, Jinan, P. R. China; Postal code: 250100. IV. Academic Programs & Required Materials In addition to Chinese-medium programs, English-medium programs are also available for international applicants. Applicants can only apply to one program, and admitted students are allowed to transfer to a similar program. If Applicant intends to study undergraduate program at SDU and wants to apply for Chinese government scholarship this year, only SDU Chinese taught undergraduate programs are available. Why does your Required chosen course subject area interest you? What is your study plan in Materials SDU? 5) Language proficiency certificate Chinese-medium programs: a) New HSK Level 4 (210 points or higher, HSK is a standard Chinese proficiency test. You can find detailed information at www.chinesetest.cn ) b) The only exception of the Chinese proficiency test requirement is for applicants who have obtained their highest degree in an institution where the primary language of instruction is Chinese. Then official proof must be submitted. English-medium programs: a) All applicants whose native language is not English are required to submit the results of the IELTS (6.0 or above) or iBT TOEFL (80 or above, institution code: C296) or other equivalent certificates of English proficiency. b) Applicants will be exempt from providing English proficiency test results if one of the following criteria is met: - native English speakers -applicants who have obtained their highest degree in an institution where the primary language of instruction is English. Then official proof must be submitted. 6) Completed Foreigner Physical Examination Form (valid for 6 months) 7) After obtaining an e-offer, applicants may be required to submit their proof of funding documentation (e.g. a bank statement). Chinese Government Scholarship recipients will be exempt from the above. 8) Proof of employment (if applicable) 9) Any other supplementary materials 1) Applicants should maintain the highest standards of candor and upload the scanned version of all the required materials accurately in a timely manner. 2) All documents in languages other than Chinese and English must be Remarks officially translated into English/Chinese and certified by your institution. 3) Incomplete applications will not be processed; The University will ask the applicant to complement needed materials if necessary. V. Registration All international students are required to register at SDU after being accepted. You have to register according to the date stated in your admission letter. Early registration will not be accommodated. VI. Fees 1. The one-time registration fee is 400 RMB/year 2. Comprehensive Health Insurance Plan According to the regulations of the PRC Ministry of Education, all international students must be covered by the Comprehensive Health Insurance Plan for Foreign Students throughout their entire period of study. SDU international students must purchase the insurance plan upon registration at SDU by submitting copies of their passports and need to pay the insurance money. The cost of the insurance plan is 800 RMB/year. International students that fail to do so will see their enrollment canceled. Chinese Government Scholarship recipients are exempt from the above and automatically covered. VII. Accommodation Shandong University is committed to creating a safe and well-maintained environment that promotes community values and fosters comfort. In Jinan, international student apartments are in three of the six campuses. In Qingdao campus the university also provides international students with suitable accommodations. Each apartment is nicely furnished and equipped with a heating and air conditioning unit and other needed utilities. Admitted students who are interested in living on-campus must apply at http://www.apply.sdu.edu.cn/en/student/login after being offered an official admission notice. The earliest date of move-in is three days before the registration date stated on your admission notice; otherwise, the university will not accommodate your early arrival. All international students should pay a deposit fee of 600 RMB for the accommodation when checking-in. The student will get this fee returned when leaving the room without damaging it. University Introduction Shandong University, under the direct jurisdiction of the Ministry of Education, is a key comprehensive university with a long history, a variety of disciplines, strong academic strength, and distinctive characteristics, which has great influence both at home and abroad. Shandong University is a member university of Project 211 and Project 985, two national key construction projects to support the development of high-quality universities. Shandong University is one of the initiative universities of modern Chinese higher education. Its medical school, established in 1864, signified the beginning of modern Chinese higher education. Its main body, Shandong Imperial College (Shandong Da Xue Tang) established in 1901, was the second national university in China, only after the Imperial University of Peking. Moreover, it was the first university to be established and run in accordance with a chartered constitution. Shandong University now comprises 8 campuses (Jinan Central Campus, Hongjialou Campus, Baotuquan Campus, Qianfoshan Campus, Software Park Campus, Xinglongshan Campus, Qingdao Campus and Weihai Campus) in three different cities (Jinan, Qingdao and Weihai), covering an area of over 533 hectares (including 200 hectares of the Qingdao campus). The university currently enjoys a teaching and administrative staff of 7,782 (not including affiliated hospitals). Its full-time student population totals up to 60,000, of which 41,103 are full- time undergraduates, 16,607 are postgraduates and 1,813 are international students. It also has an excellent faculty team of 1,107 professors, including 907 doctoral supervisors. The financial mathematics, crystal materials, condensed matter physics, colloid and surface chemistry, micro-biology, machinery, material science, cardiovascular functional recovery, new drug manufacturing, and classical Chinese philosophy have all listed in the first-class level within the country, and some are even known abroad.
