Other Possibilities 2

Mexico Universidad La Salle –http://delasalle.ulsa.mx/sitio_ciel/ –Spanish Language and Culture and other 4 week summer programmes such as: Education in Mexico, Global Media in Mexico, Criminal Justice in Mexico, Public Health in Mexico, Doing Business in Mexico Note on Travel to Mexico

Here’s the FCO advice for Mexico as a whole. It only advises against travel to Ciudad Juarez in the north. http://www.fco.gov.uk/en/travel-and-living- abroad/travel-advice-by-country/north- central-america/mexico1

I think Mexico City is relatively safe compared to northern cities but does come with the risks of any large Latin American city with fairly high levels of crime (probably on a par with Sao Paulo). This course is run in the Condesa district of Mexico City which is a ‘nice area’ Funding, Visas and Insurance

– Various scholarships available to cover in-country costs – Usually student is expected to raise money for flights, visa, insurance and local travel – No funding available from the International Office

– Apply to the Alumni Fund

– http://go.bath.ac.uk/grants – Two grants available from the Faculty £1000 funding from the Faculty: made up of £500 towards travel expenses for 2 students (in return for blogging/attending a future briefing event) – You need to take out private travel insurance such as Ensleigh – Some (limited) visa guidance from Student Services 4W

Alumni Fund Grants

• Normally intended to support longer placements, but can be awarded for programmes of 3 weeks+

• Typical grant for a short activity £150-£250

• Typical grant for 6 months+ £500-£1000

• Should be supported by a staff member writing a recommendation of how you will benefit

• Application form at http://go.bath.ac.uk/grants

• You can apply for an Alumni Fund grant before you know whether you have been accepted on the scheme – any grant would then be conditional on you getting a place Recent Grants

There have also been grants to people on the Study China programme in the past.
