NOMINATIONS ANNOUNCED Atonement has received 14 nominations for the Orange British Academy Film Awards in 2008. No Country for Old Men and There Will Be Blood have each received 9 nominations and La Vie en Rose has received 7. The Bourne Ultimatum has 6 nominations, with American Gangster, The Lives of Others and Michael Clayton receiving 5 nominations each. Atonement has been nominated in the categories Best Film, Best British Film, Director for Joe Wright, Adapted Screenplay, Music, Cinematography, Editing, Production Design, Sound, Costume Design and Make Up & Hair. Keira Knightley and James McAvoy have been nominated for Leading Actress and Leading Actor, with Saoirse Ronan receiving a Supporting Actress nomination. No Country for Old Men has received three performance nominations: Javier Bardem and Tommy Lee Jones have both been nominated for Supporting Actor, with Kelly Macdonald nominated for Supporting Actress. The film’s other nominations are for Best Film, Adapted Screenplay, Cinematography, Editing and Sound, with the Coen brothers receiving a Director nomination. Daniel Day-Lewis has been nominated for Leading Actor for his performance in There Will Be Blood, with a Supporting Actor nomination going to Paul Dano. Other nominees for the Film Not in the English Language award are The Kite Runner (also nominated for Adapted Screenplay and Music), The Diving Bell and the Butterfly (also nominated for Adapted Screenplay) and Lust, Caution (also nominated for Costume Design). Cate Blanchett has received nominations for both Supporting and Leading roles in I’m Not There and Elizabeth: The Golden Age respectively. Elizabeth: The Golden Age also received nominations for Production Design, Costume Design and Make Up & Hair. The remaining Leading Actress nominations go to Julie Christie for Away From Her and Ellen Page for Juno. Juno also received a nomination for Original Screenplay. Viggo Mortensen has been nominated for Leading Actor for Eastern Promises, which has also been nominated as Best British Film. Philip Seymour Hoffman has received a Supporting Actor nomination for Charlie Wilson’s War. Control has been nominated for Best British Film, with Samantha Morton nominated for Supporting Actress and writer Matt Greenhalgh has been nominated for The Carl Foreman Award. The other nominees for The Carl Foreman Award for Special Achievement by a British Director, Writer or Producer for their First Feature Film are Chris Atkins (Taking Liberties), Mia Bays (Scott Walker: 30 Century Man), Sarah Gavron (Brick Lane) and Andrew Piddington (The Killing of John Lennon). This is England has been nominated for Best British Film and Original Screenplay. Joining The Bourne Ultimatum in the Special Visual Effects category are The Golden Compass, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End, Spider-Man 3 and Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, which has also been nominated for Production Design. Make Up & Hair nominations have gone to Hairspray and Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, which has also been nominated for Costume Design. The nominees for the Animated Film award are Ratatouille, Shrek the Third and The Simpsons Movie. The nominees for the Orange Rising Star Award, announced earlier this month, are Shia LaBeouf, Sienna Miller, Ellen Page, Sam Riley and Tang Wei. This audience award is voted for by the British public and presented to a young actor or actress who has demonstrated exceptional talent and ambition. The Orange British Academy Film Awards take place on Sunday 10 February at The Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London. They will be hosted by Jonathan Ross for the second year running. Gloor, Joao Marcos, Patrick M. de Boer, Hauke Fuehres, Wei Lo, Keiichi Nemoto [email protected] MIT Center for Collective Intelligence Abstract In this paper we study the differences in historical World View between Western and Eastern cultures, represented through the English, the Chinese, Japanese, and German Wikipedia. In particular, we analyze the historical networks of the World’s leaders since the beginning of written history, comparing them in the different Wikipedias and assessing cultural chauvinism. We also identify the most influential female leaders of all times in the English, German, Spanish, and Portuguese Wikipedia. As an additional lens into the soul of a culture we compare top terms, sentiment, emotionality, and complexity of the English, Portuguese, Spanish, and German Wikinews. 1 Introduction Over the last ten years the Web has become a mirror of the real world (Gloor et al. 2009). More recently, the Web has also begun to influence the real world: Societal events such as the Arab spring and the Chilean student unrest have drawn a large part of their impetus from the Internet and online social networks. In the meantime, Wikipedia has become one of the top ten Web sites1, occasionally beating daily newspapers in the actuality of most recent news. Be it the resignation of German national soccer team captain Philipp Lahm, or the downing of Malaysian Airlines flight 17 in the Ukraine by a guided missile, the corresponding Wikipedia page is updated as soon as the actual event happened (Becker 2012.

    HBO, Sky's 'Chernobyl' Leads 2020 BAFTAs with 14 Nominations 06.04.2020 HBO and Sky's Emmy-winning limited series Chernobyl tied Killing Eve's record, set last year, of 14 nominations at the 2020 BAFTA TV awards. That haul helped Sky earn a total of 25 nominations. The BBC led with a total of 79, followed by Channel 4 with 31. The series about the nuclear disaster that befell the Russian city was nominated best mini-series, with Jared Harris and Stellan Skarsgård nommed best lead and supporting actor, respectively. Other limited series to score nominations were ITV's Confession, BBC One's The Victim and Channel 4's The Virtues. Netflix's The Crown, produced by Left Bank Pictures, was next with seven total nominations, including best drama and acting nominations for Oscar-winner Olivia Colman, who played Queen Elizabeth, and Helena Bonham Carter, who played Princess Margaret. Also nominated best drama were Channel 4 and Netflix's The End of the F***ig World, HBO and BBC One's Gentleman Jack and BBC Two's Giri/Haji. Besides Colman, dramatic acting nominations went to Glenda Jackson for BBC One's Elizabeth Is Missing, Emmy winner and last year's BAFTA winner Jodie Comer for BBC One's Killing Eve, Samantha Morton for Channel 4's I Am Kirsty and Suranne Jones for Gentleman Jack.     McCabe & Mrs. Miller By Chelsea Wessels In a 1971 interview, Robert Altman describes the story of “McCabe & Mrs. Miller” as “the most ordinary common western that’s ever been told. It’s eve- ry event, every character, every west- ern you’ve ever seen.”1 And yet, the resulting film is no ordinary western: from its Pacific Northwest setting to characters like “Pudgy” McCabe (played by Warren Beatty), the gun- fighter and gambler turned business- man who isn’t particularly skilled at any of his occupations. In “McCabe & Mrs. Miller,” Altman’s impressionistic style revises western events and char- acters in such a way that the film re- flects on history, industry, and genre from an entirely new perspective.
