St. Michael & All Angels Episcopal Church E-News from St. Michael & All Angels Episcopal Church St. Michael & All Angels Episcopal Church January 29, 2017 The Fourth Sunday after the Epiphany This is a series of banners by Elenore Dyck and Pat van Nes, created to illustrate a sermon series on the Beatitudes, entitled "Kingdom Attitudes." January 29, 2017 St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church welcomes you to our parish community. 8:00 A.M. - The Holy Eucharist, Rite I 10:30 A.M. - The Holy Eucharist, Rite II 3:30 P.M. - Dinka Service Micah 6:1-8 CLERGY AND STAFF Psalm 15 1 Corinthians 1:18-31 Matthew 5:1-12 BULLETIN LINK The Fourth Sunday After the Epiphany The Atlanta Falcons and Supply Priest the Parish Meeting The Rev. E. Claiborne Jones [email protected] Not a few brothers and sisters, myself included, Parish Administrator got a little heated at the parish meeting last Muriel Diguette Sunday. There was anxiety expressed about the [email protected] church's long-term financial stability and concern Finance Clerk about whether the next rector's compensation was Brownie Sway affordable and whether there would be [email protected] performance objectives against which the priest Organist would be evaluated. I, for one, got anxious about Mary Lou Rahn the anxiety! I thought and said, "Didn't we have [email protected] these same concerns a year ago and don't we Choir Director realize that on so many measures we are doing Dawn-Marie James great? And don't we understand that a good rector [email protected] works with the vestry as a team of mutual support Sound Ministry and mutual review?" John Harrill [email protected] Our now retired Senior Warden, Rolston Osborne, Church Office begged to differ with me. We all laughed together Address: 6780 James B. Rivers Dr. and he went on to say that anxiety is not Stone Mountain , GA 30083 inappropriate but that we are in fact in good shape. Phone: 770-469-8551 T'was a wonderful example that our emotions are Fax: 770-696-2185 complex, "both/and." Office Hours: Monday -Thursday Later Sunday, I sat down to watch the Falcons 9:00 a.m. - 4:30 pm Closed on Friday Football game. I don't follow Pro Football and even though I knew this was a big game I didn't yet know that it would determine whether or not Atlanta goes to the Super Bowl. The game began, and I was anxious. Atlanta rolled up score after score and I was anxious. At half-time the score was 24-0 in our favor and I was, yes, still anxious. What? WHAT? A wise colleague reminded me that "anxiety is often unsupported excitement." I was anxious and wanting to be excited about the Falcon's success, but the game wasn't over yet. Perhaps some of our anxiety as a parish is similar. We want to be excited about a new rector and growing our community, but we're not there yet. So we are anxious as well. Jesus suggests we "be not anxious about tomorrow." But we are. And yet we could let a little of our excitement about our future give us measures of Holy joy even now! • Porvoo Prayer Diary 2021
PORVOO PRAYER DIARY 2021 The Porvoo Declaration commits the churches which have signed it ‘to share a common life’ and ‘to pray for and with one another’. An important way of doing this is to pray through the year for the Porvoo churches and their Dioceses. The Prayer Diary is a list of Porvoo Communion Dioceses or churches covering each Sunday of the year, mindful of the many calls upon compilers of intercessions, and the environmental and production costs of printing a more elaborate list. Those using the calendar are invited to choose one day each week on which they will pray for the Porvoo churches. It is hoped that individuals and parishes, cathedrals and religious orders will make use of the Calendar in their own cycle of prayer week by week. In addition to the churches which have approved the Porvoo Declaration, we continue to pray for churches with observer status. Observers attend all the meetings held under the Agreement. The Calendar may be freely copied or emailed for wider circulation. The Prayer Diary is updated once a year. • The Eucharist
Renewal of Commitment to Ministry Maundy Thursday 9 April 2020 11:00 Officiant and Preacher The Rt Revd Dr Michael Ipgrave OBE Bishop of Lichfield with the Rt Revd Clive Gregory, Bishop of Wolverhampton, the Rt Revd Sarah Bullock, Bishop of Shrewsbury. and the Rt Revd Jan McFarlane, Assistant Bishop in the Diocese of Lichfield About This Service The bishops in the Diocese of Lichfield normally gather together all clergy and lay ministers at the Cathedral on the morning of Maundy Thursday in order for us all to reaffirm our commitment to our various ministries, while also blessing and collecting oils for use over the coming year and celebrating the Eucharist together. Sadly, at this present time of crisis it is impossible for us to gather together or to bless the oils. Thanks to modern technology, however, it is possible for us to reaffirm our commitment to ministry together and this service will be streamed on our Diocesan Facebook page and website to enable us to do so. We hope you will feel able to join in with the service from home. We especially hope that priests, deacons and lay ministers will feel able to join in with the renewal of commitment to ministry at the appropriate point in the service. As usual, everything that the congregation is invited to join in with is in bold type. Unfortunately, for copyright reasons, we cannot provide printed versions of the hymns. However, these are well-known hymns, are in many hymn books and the texts are also available online, so we hope that you will be able to provide yourselves with copies and join in.
