Basis Bed and Breakfast Excluded Lunch & dinner for own account Day 2: Victoria & Alfred Hotel, Cape Town P a g e | 8 Day Itinerary After breakfast, included at the hotel, you are taken to the stunning vantage point of Signal Hill, on the side of Table Mountain. This is the best place to get 360-degree views over the city where your guide can introduce you to the lay-out of Cape Town , its neighbourhoods, famous sites, nature attractions and history behind it all. Signal Hill forms part of Table Mountain and is named for the cannon that still fires at noon everyday - Capetownians' official time check. It offers picnic spots, gentle walks and the launch site for paragliding. If you are lucky you will spot the fury Cape Dassie (Rock Hyrax) roaming around. (Should a guest prefer to purchase a cable car ticket to ascend Table Mountain - they will be dropped off en route to Signal Hill and can read the information boards at the top that explain much of what the guide will be teaching the group at Signal Hill). A stop for lunch will be made, followed by a guided exploration of Cape Town's historic and current cultural centers - The Castle of Good Hope and the Bo Kaap. The Castle of Good Hope is the oldest surviving building in South Africa. It was built between 1666 and 1679 as a fort and is now a famous historical landmark in the city, notable for its star shape. The five bastions (of the five-pointed star) are named after the main titles of Willem, the Prince of Orange. The Bo-Kaap is the only area in the city of Cape Town where the Cape Malay community were not forceably removed under Apartheid. It is a bright and colourful area, one of the most photographed places in Cape Town but its flavour is endangered by on-going gentrification of the area.
