The Purpose of Mis-en-scene
The purpose of this exercise is to familiarize the student with the technique of combining character movement with camera movement in order to record a scene, a happening or an event in one single continuous take without any cuts using essential elements.
32 The Purpose of Continuity
The purpose of this exercise is to familiarize the students with the technique of breaking a scene, a happening or an event into several shots which when spiced together in the editing room will re- create the above in totality although it has been shot in fragments. This exercise should make the student the master of all the rules of editing that need to be observed while breaking down a scene into smaller shots.
The Purpose of Dialogue Exercise
The purpose of this exercise is to familiarize the students with the technique of recording the dialogues of the actors in a scene effectively, without unwanted noise and with a proper shot breakdown visually, following all the rules of proper editing. The student also has to learn that in cinema when an actor is speaking a dialogue then the camera need not stay at him alone, but can also go to the actor who is listening which is known as dialogue overlapping.
The Purpose of Short Fiction Film
The purpose of this exercise is to familiarize the students with the technique of narrating a story or a fragment of a story effectively through the medium of visuals and sounds. How to extract the desired response from the audience should be at the back of the mind of the student while shooting this master exercise.

The purpose of this exercise is to familiarize the students with cutting on-beat and cutting off-beat and with the takings and camera movements that make a song/music video more effective.
