City Tour Options St. Louis is also the home of The National Blues Museum where you will explore the Blues and celebrate the musical genre that is the foundation of all modern music. Option 2 Get Your Kicks On Route 66 St. Louis is the largest city along Route 66 between Chicago and Los Angeles, and there are many “must-sees” and related sites along The Mother Road as it transverses through the region. We will start at the Missouri History Museum, you’ll have a private curator talk while viewing snippets from the Route 66 in Missouri documentary. Next at the Museum of Transportation, travel through 150 years of motorized history. The museum features more than 300 moving vehicles including locomotives, streetcars, rate and classic automobiles and trucks as well as a cool Coral Court room façade from Route 66. You final stop will include a sweet treat from Ted Drewes Frozen Custard, a St. Louis tradition since 1929, with its specialty “concrete” that is so thick you can turn it upside down. This historic St. Louis establishment is one of the most stories stops along Route 66. December 1-5, 2019 Travel South USA International Showcase St. Louis City Tour Options Option 3 A Little Taste of St. Louis Tour Explore the original tastes of St. Louis, during a driving overview of some of our most historic neighborhoods that feature delectable delights. Baumann, Lucretia S. Kelly, and John E. Kelly Hosted by Department of Anthropology, Washington University Department of Anthropology, University of Missouri-St. Louis Timothy E. Baumann, Program Chair John E. Kelly and Timothy E. Baumann, Co-Organizers ISSN-0584-410X Floor Plan of the Marriott Hotel First Floor Second Floor ii Preface WELCOME TO ST. LOUIS! This joint conference of the Midwest Archaeological Conference and the Southeastern Archaeological Conference marks the second time that these two prestigious organizations have joined together. The first was ten years ago in Lexington, Kentucky and from all accounts a tremendous success. Having the two groups meet in St. Louis is a first for both groups in the 50 years that the Midwest Conference has been in existence and the 61 years that the Southeastern Archaeological Conference has met since its inaugural meeting in 1938. St. Louis hosted the first Midwestern Conference on Archaeology sponsored by the National Research Council’s Committee on State Archaeological Survey 75 years ago. Parts of the conference were broadcast across the airwaves of KMOX radio, thus reaching a larger audience. Since then St. Louis has been host to two Society for American Archaeology conferences in 1976 and 1993 as well as the Society for Historical Archaeology’s conference in 2004. When we proposed this joint conference three years ago we felt it would serve to again bring people together throughout most of the mid-continent.

Missouri Route 66 Tour October 20, 2019 to October 26, 2019 All registrations must be received 30 days prior to start date. === Dear VCCA Member: Attached is the Registration form and basic information regarding the tour. The tour is limited to the first 25 who register. Registration is not complete until payment is made. The registration fee covers only the three meals provided and NO museums and attractions which have admission fees are included, and you will have to pay at the door. Several locations have provided a discount so be sure to ask for the VCCA rate. I hope the registration is self- explanatory, but if you have questions, please let me know. The speed limit for almost all of the tour is 55 miles an hour with very little Interstate travel. Please indicate if you need trailer parking so I can help arrange that if you want. At the welcoming dinner, there will be tons of stuff provided by the Missouri Division of Tourism about Route 66 and things to do in Missouri. If you want to do some planning before the tour, contact www.visit mo.com or call 1 800 334-6946 and they should get you to the right people or place. I will be happy to help get you the information you want. The tour provides a number of suggestions for one to do on his/her own. If you will indicate what interests you in these options, I will try to organize a group that share the same interest. For example, in Springfield, Cindy and I will probably do Museum on the Square and then Grizzley and the Botanical Garden.
