The thrust of the Forum’s work is to help develop cooperative policies in the Asia-Pacific region through debate and analyses undertaken with the region’s leaders in the academic, government, and corporate arenas. The Forum’s programs encompass current and emerging political, security, economic/business, and oceans policy issues. It collaborates with a network of more than 30 research institutes around the Pacific Rim, drawing on Asian perspectives and disseminating its projects’ findings and recommendations to opinion leaders, governments, and publics throughout the region. An international Board of Governors guides the Pacific Forum’s work. The Forum is funded by grants from foundations, corporations, individuals, and governments, the latter providing a small percentage of the forum’s annual budget. The Forum’s studies are objective and nonpartisan and it does not engage in classified or proprietary work. Its services can be broadly categorized into stage bus and express bus. It currently operates stage buses in the Klang Valley, mainland Penang/ northern Perak, Seremban and its vicinity, and Kuantan. Its express services are predominantly concentrated along the North-South Expressway. The Company was mandated to jointly lead stage bus operations in the Klang Valley in 1994, as part of the Government’s plan to rationalize and modernize the urban transport system. In response to this, the Company introduced a new fleet of buses, equipped with advanced ticketing system, and expanded its area of operations in the Klang Valley partly through the acquisition of other operators and/or their routes.

Serious structural flaws concerning the independence of the Election Commission and unfair delimitation of the electoral constituencies are in need of correction. The new Pakatan Harapan government has administratively allowed the EC to function independently but legislative amendments, including amendments to the Constitution, are required to institutionalise the Commission’s independence. On 9 May 2018, the rule of the once-invincible Barisan Nasional (BN) was brought to an end, and a peaceful transition of power was made to a new coalition government under the 93-year-old Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad. With the change, Malaysia entered a political environment with new possibilities for democratic and electoral reforms. This article will highlight some of the key conditions and circumstances that made GE14 an uneven playing field for the opposition parties even before the election was called, and biased the conduct of GE14 itself.

The Embassy celebrated the 61st Anniversary of Malaysia’s Independence on 31 August 2018 with resident and visiting Malaysians. Malaysia – Zimbabwe Business Network (MYZIM BIZNET) – Zimbabwe Chapter, under the patronage of the Embassy, organised a Luncheon Talk: Doing Business with Malaysia by Malaysian Investor in South Africa, Mr. Peter Tan, Managing Director, Hardware Africa Private Limited was Guest Speaker on 7 September 2018. Newsletter Edition 2 1 January– 15 July 2016 Parting Words from the Ambassador 11 July 2016 After 2 years and 3 months as Malaysian Ambassador in Washington D.C., it is time to bid farewell to colleagues and friends as I wrap up my tour of duty and return to Malaysia on July 11, 2016. It has been a wonderful experience to be Ambassador to the most powerful country on earth and to have the opportunity to participate in shaping up U.S.-Malaysia bilateral relations to its present healthy and vibrant state. Trade and investment continue to flourish, visits by leaders have been most frequent, and cooperation between the Governments and the peoples have been most encouraging and productive. All these can only move forward and progress to greater heights, especially with the impending implementation of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP). On a more personal level, I want to thank all the officers and staff of the Malaysian Embassy for their support, contributions and team-work extended to me during the course of my duties. The various activities and events organized by them to bring together Malaysian Diasporas and students closer to the Embassy have been highly appreciated by everyone involved. The most recent Ramadhan and Eid celebrations have been particularly memorable as these coincided with the farewell events organized just before my departure to Kuala Lumpur. Hope to see most of them again some time in the future in Malaysia. Finally my special thanks to the Malaysian Government and Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in particular our YAB Prime Minister and YB Minister of Foreign Affairs for their confidence in me to lead Malawakil Washington as the fourteenth Malaysian Ambassador to the United States.
