OCTOBER MEETING HIGHLIGHTS For the full meeting minutes, go to www.filipino-association.org/linksand check out the Resources section.

1. Mary Ann Deming gave the Treasurer’s Report. She followed-up on the delinquent tax notice presented last month. Our third property tax (grass lot) was inadvertently mailed to our previous treasurer; it has been corrected and paid. We received the FCC amortization schedule – we have a variable rate mortgage (every 36 months). It is recommended that we switched to a fixed rate. She also noted that the net income for September Affair is ~$7,000.

EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE REPORTS

2. President. Edward thanked all those who attended the September Affair and congratulated the planning committee for a successful event. Other than a lower-than-expected attendance, the evening ran very smoothly and featured fresh ideas and entertainment. He also recognized Peter and Bing Sakach for heading the upcoming Kansas Speedway event.

3. Board of Directors. Mila Tiojanco stated that the Board will meet soon to review the finances of the Association. She recommended that the President-Elect should have a budget in place before the beginning of next year. In addition the By-Laws Committee will present other recommendations re: financial procedures to the Board.

4. Filipino Cultural Center Foundation. Mila reminded everyone of the upcoming New Orleans Nights fundraising event on October 11. Cost is $35 for adults. Auction items will be previewed the night before.

5. Executive Director, Filipino Cultural Center. Mila reported that we received a donation of tables and chairs from Lisa Hopkins. However we are now running out of space in the storage room. She recommended to move the piano to the foyer and cover it, and to move the ping-pong table to either: [1] the Philippine House basement; [2] a member’s home; or [3] auction it off. Discussion ensued on the merits of this suggestion.

SPECIAL COMMITTEE REPORTS

6. September Affair. The planning committee has already had a post-event debriefing. Kevin Bautista reported that we did not meet the contracted minimum for guests. Because of that, there were extras (i.e., hors d'oeuvres during cocktail hour and wine service during dinner) to make up for the loss. There was discussion re: ticket cost and overall feasibility for future events. Edward ensured that the committee worked diligently to prepare and follow a budget.

STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS

7. Community & Volunteer Outreach. Bing attended the Mid-America Asian Cultural Association event and accepted a Partnership Award on behalf of the Filipino Association. She also reported that the AAPI Workshop event covering Social Security and Immigration went very well. Edward announced that the Johnson County Library is inviting us participate in their Winter Windows of the World display from December to February.
