Please forgive my camera quality.> Dolls are socially taboo at worst, and have a bad reputation at best. I know there are a number of MGTOW and men in general who are kind of interested in the subject so I thought I’d chronicle my experience. -Why buy a doll?- I’m 30 and I’ve had a two and a half year dry spell after I split with my fiancé and apparently, I’m developing a bit of a thirst these days. Trust me, I don’t want to, but I can’t help it. I texted and videogamed with a gamergirl for a couple weeks this autumn, but knowledge of The Black Pill/AWALT does things to a man, so I’ve been 100% monk for the past 3 months and still going strong. A MGTOW thread on escorts was posted awhile back and I decided to do some research in my locale. Everything was too expensive and brief. Nevermind the fact that there were chances of catfishing and fake reviews written by blind simps or the whores themselves. Forget it. Too much money for realistically only 20-30 minutes of fun. I could try hitting the gym for 6 months, shell out a minimum 300+ bucks for a new wardrobe, 50+ bucks for an expensive haircut, get a prescription for contacts at 240+, some money for a vasectomy, and then MAYBE spin some tinder plates or get some kind of vague female attention to scratch this stubborn itch. But that’s… a shitload of money and effort for not too much, certainly not any guaranteed, benefit (fit body aside). Plus, I can’t forget the risks of hooking up with women: pregnancy, rape lies, cheating women with violent boyfriends, stds, etc. Plus, it’s not like they don’t have an entire city’s worth of men right at their fingertips. I don’t matter and I’m invisible. No thanks, I’m not doing that today. Then, a couple weeks ago, I stumbled across the one MGTOW’s post who wrote on his positive experiences with an entry level sex doll that he bought off amazon for 600-700$. https://www.reddit.com/r/MGTOW/comments/7s0byk/sex_dolls_are_awesome/ I mean, everyone knows about sex dolls and the general stigma attached to them but I was intrigued. This would require more research. I spoke with the OP and he answered my questions about doll basics. I decided I wanted to try one. It would need to be small so I could hide it when friends and family arrived and to conceal it from my roommate- not so much out of shame per se, but to try and explain/justify a doll purchase to these people would only be met with disbelief, pity, and/or disdain. “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” -Buying the Doll- Amazon was a mixed bag. The prices were decent but 90% of the art assets were stolen and the user submitted pictures were horrifying. The dolls they were selling were these glossy(slimy?), non-detailed, mannequin looking rubber things that had a few holes to use, a blatantly disheveled looking wig, cheap makeup, and a permanently shocked expression. Jesus. I could never get it up to a sight like that. I’m not wasting 300-500$ on a formless proto-human jelly creature. But there was one 100cm doll I found on amazon that was utterly adorable. It was a reasonable price around 370$, but again, the user pictures gave me pause. What was shipped looked sort of like what was advertised… But I began looking at other sites dedicated purely to dolls instead. The prices were insanely high and they varied drastically from site to www.TheRedArchive.com Page 1 of 11 site for identical looking dolls- I imagine there are casts of dolls these businesses have access to so they must charge based on the materials they use, arbitrary overhead, and the speed of shipping. I wanted to buy via Amazon because of their cheap price and potential return policy but I needed more input. I went off, found The Doll Forum, and lurked for a while. Everyone there seemed pretty relaxed, accepting, and easygoing. All my questions posted were answered. Some men suggested I check the Used section of the forums for a deal but, health/sanitation concerns aside, even those were very expensive or way too big to hide somewhere. I was directed by a very enthusiastic user to a shop called Mon Amours Toujours that had a wide selection of dolls. I messaged the owner of the site with a few questions and he was prompt to answer. The doll’s 1000$ price tag was twice the size of my budget, but I wanted to risk it. I wasn’t going to miss any bills or starve from spending that money, and so I had to take the gamble. At least the price I saw on the site included absolutely everything from labor to shipment. The forum said buying from a reputable seller is better than risking money on a budget model on Amazon as far as quality and durability went. If a highly rated Amazon doll is 600-700$, why not spend another 300-400 extra dollars on a good reputation and the assurance of a quality product? I waited a few days to make sure this was absolutely something I wanted to do. In the meantime I couldn’t stop thinking about the doll, so I finally pulled the trigger. I got a notification that it’d take about 14 business days for the doll’s manufacture and then another 10 days to come from china. It was going to take a month, effectively. 8 days later, I was told the doll passed inspection and would be shipped out from china the next day. Oh? Nice! The owner included some pictures and true enough, her face looked just like the one that was advertised. FedEx said it’d arrive from china in one week on Monday. I got that day off, but then FedEx went and suddenly dropped the doll off on the Friday before instead. It was awesome that everything was so amazingly ahead of schedule, barely ~2.5 weeks from order placement to reception, but I had to scramble around the weekend’s delivery hours. Not bad, coming from China. The doll was packed neatly and thoroughly- I made a point to save all the packing materials, even if I don’t plan to directly store them with the doll. It came with tools: gloves, an s-hook, a large circle bolt to hang the body, a wash bottle and a brush. I didn’t use the brush much because I don’t want to straighten out the curls in her hair. I was pleasantly surprised by her figure- her breasts looked utterly gigantic in the picture I got from the Chinese factory but as you can see here, she’s just a buxom, short woman with adult proportions. She’s just barely as tall as a doorknob on your standard door. The only observation I have is that she’s quite tan/pinkish. Not Hispanic-tan or anything but she still seems like she was out in the sun, metaphorically speaking. I would have preferred a pale doll, but maybe this is the default skin tone Amour has or maybe I selected the wrong one at checkout. The Review of the Doll -Physical Properties- Her skin is soft and the meat on her bones is firmer than an actual girl’s, but she’s still very squishy- her boobs have an admittedly sexy jiggle and are slightly hollow in the center, I think. A fleshlight is squishier than the doll. The skeleton feels solid and the joints are firm- she's not going to loll about at all like a marionette. Her knees can rotate around like a windmill, her hips can spread, her shoulders move like expected and the elbows can move like the knees. The fingers are posed via soft, bendable wires and the toes have no bones. There seems to be a small metal plate in the foot that you can manipulate to better pose her. She has three orifices, mouth, vagina and butt. I didn’t even realize she had a mouth orifice even though it was advertised. I don’t think I’m gonna use it ever because I seriously don’t want to mar her face and she looks weird with even just a finger. The vagina and butt have a slight texture within them though they’re mostly smooth and they’re quite deep. 12 hours after I opened her and set her up, my room www.TheRedArchive.com Page 2 of 11 really smells of the plastic- an odd flowery/chemically scent. The smell completely vanished after opening the window and letting a fan run for an hour. I washed her shipping blanket twice and handwashed her nightie with dish soap and those don’t smell anymore. I would wash the doll but I’ll have to set up some time to do it and figure out what brand of soap would be best. Let’s not beat around the bush. How would I rate the physical satisfaction? A solid, non-hyperbolic rating of Fantastic, but it’s a complicated answer and has some technicalities.

These perspectives are, in turn, challenged by anarchist, queer, and crip conceptions that, while compelling a critical return to the subject, the structure and the law also serve as an inspiration for arguments that deplete the structures and render them hostages of the sovereignty of the subject’ self-fiction. A class of technologies that is becoming increasingly more prominent in discussions of the future are sex robots. In this article, we present a qualitative analysis of posts from a forum where people describe their interactions with sex dolls and their motivations for using them through text and photographs. Forum users use dolls as a content authoring interface, imbue them with agency, and construct meaningful sexual relationships with them. Implications for the design of future robots and autonomous agents in humans’ everyday lives are discussed. We highlight that sex dolls are used for more than just sex; they provide fertile ground for embodied fictions and care of the self. Future, customizable technologies for sexual intimacy and wellness should account for this use. Methods: A comprehensive multidisciplinary, multidatabase search strategy was used. All steps of literature search and selection, data charting, and synthesis followed the leading methodological guideline, the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses extension for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-ScR) checklist. A total of 29 (17 peer reviewed) and 98 publications (32 peer reviewed) for sex dolls and sex robots, respectively, from 1993 to 2019 were included. Results: According to the topics and methodologies, the sex doll and sex robot publications were divided into 5 and 6 groups, respectively. The majority of publications were theoretical papers. Thus far, no observational or experimental research exists that uses actual sex dolls or sex robots as stimulus material.

    Taboo to Mainstream: An Industrial Design Solution to Sex Toy Production Judith Glover Submitted in fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy Swinburne University of Technology March 2013 Abstract Despite the plethora of feminist and sexual history literature that addresses issues of current and historic marginalization of women and the literature that specifically addresses women’s sexuality, little work has been done to discuss or develop female- centric sex toys. Sex toys are not a topic one will find in the canons of design history. These products, lacking in authorship, are difficult to find within standard hagiographies of famous designers or design companies. Nonetheless, sex toys and their precursors have been manufactured in their millions for over 150 years. Surveys show sex toy consumers are more likely to be females, yet historically women have only been able to access products that are either socially camouflaged as medical or home appliances, or the male-centric products of the pornography industry of the late 20th century. Even at the end of the 20th century the mass produced products of the adult industry still display Victorian attitudes and understandings of female sexuality. The product genre, affected by commercial and social marginalization, operates in a vacuum of health, safety and design standards that is commonly applied to other product categories. In this thesis I argue that the use of industrial design processes and methods in the development and marketing of appropriate female-centric sex toys has the capacity to make sex toys a socially and commercially mainstream product. I argue that, in doing this, not only will greater opportunities be opened for such products to exist outside the retail environments of the adult industry but competition and innovation will create a variety of solutions more aligned with a contemporary understanding of female sexuality across a broad range of demographics and psychographics.

Time magazine reviewed recent television programs (Humans, Westworld, Black Mirror) and asked, “Is it ethical to have sex with a robot?” (D’Addario, 2017). This question suggests that the use of a life-like robot for sex is questionable and creepy rather than an alternative masturbatory activity. This study provides data on attitudes of undergraduates toward the use of robots for sex and suggests a more positive view. The concept of sex dolls (also referred to as love dolls) dates back to the 17th century and can be seen in Mughal paintings in India. Sex dolls were sold commercially through catalogues in Paris as early as 1908 (Bloch, 1910/2015). Sex doll advertisements in the United States first appeared in 1968 in pornographic magazines, when selling sexual devices through the mail became legal (Beck, 2014). The early sex dolls of the 20th century were largely blow up dolls made with thin plastic or rubber. In 1996, Abyss Creations developed a life-size sex doll that resembles the face, skin, and figure of a real woman. Although the doll’s initial function was to serve as a sex partner, some owners have used the RealDoll for non-sexual purposes. For example, the movie Lars and the Real Doll featured the RealDoll as a girlfriend whom the owner introduced to family/friends, took to parties, etc.

Using critical discourse analysis and sex positive theories, this thesis seeks to address this gap by analyzing the production of knowledge in the emerging field of sex robots. Specifically, this study analyzes sex robot representations in academic literature and online news articles to critically consider how prevailing discourses may impact sex and gender norms and sex work stigma. My analysis revealed that through their construction as sex work, sex robot representations reproduce problematic sex and gender norms, radical feminist discourses, and stigmatize sex workers and sex work clients. Furthermore, sex workers, sex work clients, and sex robot/doll users were found to be underrepresented in these conversations. The bill provides that a person who violates this provision commits a first degree misdemeanor, while a second or subsequent violation is a third degree felony. The bill also prohibits a person from knowingly having in his or her possession, custody, or control an obscene, child-like sex doll without intent to sell, lend, give away, distribute, transmit, show, transmute, or advertise.
