The Salon will be closed for a few days after the party, for refurbishment. Leanne assures us that the atmosphere and prices will remain the same, but wants to give the premises a bit of a facelift. All current and new customers will be made most welcome. We wish them both well in their new ventures. Logo designed by Michaela Hockley

LINDSAY IS HANDING THE KEYS TO LEANNE

Lindsay’s first premises in Monkton Road

Lindsay would like all her customers to know that she will be retiring in April and that Leanne will be taking over the business. Lindsay who trained to be a hairdresser in Deal, moved to Minster in 1967 when she got married. She styled hair at Hill House hospital and was also a mobile hairdresser in the early years, whilst she had two young sons to care for. She started working at Win’s in 1977 and eventually in 1983 opened her own Salon in Monkton Road, moving to her present premises in High Street some six years later. Over the years she has seen plenty of customers come and go, and she has one client, who we are told, has been coming to her for 38 years. Minster Carnival Court 2008 Lindsay has regularly supported such charities as Macmillan Princess Libby Alexander, Miss Minster Emily Pepin and Princess Letitia Graham Nursing, the MS Society and more recently the village Christmas Lights Appeal. She has also been responsible for Emily was crowned Miss Minster at the Village Hall on the the hair styling of Miss Minster and her Princesses for a 16th February. Emily aged 15 likes animals, playing the piano number of years, something which Leanne hopes to be able to and would like to study textiles and design. Her two Princesses continue. Letitia Graham and Libby Alexander are also aged 15. After retiring Lindsay is hoping to spend more time with her Retiring Miss Minster, Maddie Burton, was there to hand over husband. She enjoys gardening and already has two holidays the crown and enjoying the festivities were Carnival Courts planned. Her employee and good friend Pat is also retiring at from all over East . A good time was had by all, although the same time, after 11 years of working together. Lindsay the retiring Court was seen to shed a few tears as they had had says she will be having a retirement party on Friday 4th April such a good year and made so many new friends. After spending 6 months cajoling and coercing people to part with COMPANY their money, we, as has previously been reported, raised the necessary capital to make this venture possible. • UPVC Windows, Doors Ray Then it was on to finding volunteers to read for us, which I am very pleased to say didn’t cause us as many headaches as did raising & Conservatories the funding. • Supply only or Fitted Off we went to the library for our first recording session only to find we were going to have to compete with the Playhouse who were • Sealed units replaced already there doing song and dance rehearsals. They kindly agreed to • Repairs to existing send a member off to The Bell to see if they could relocate there for double glazing Amy the evening, but whilst that was happening we made the terrible discovery that we had no scripts available to read from, having left • Also Fascia, Soffits & them with the Parish Clerk to be copied earlier in the day. (We didn’t Cladding realise they had been left in the library office for us) One very puffed young fellow returns from The Bell to say ‘yes’ they can go there, only to be told we were going to book another Give Dave a call on evening as we had nothing to read from. (He wasn’t best pleased, and 01843 821103 Brenda we apologise for the mix up) We would like to take this opportunity to thank village dentist Mobile 07979 525257 David Downes-Powell, as he has kindly offered us the use of a consulting room at his practice for our future recording sessions.

A couple of evenings later we were back to try again, although TAKEAWAY

PIZZA we had a depleted number of readers due to other commitments. This NEW time we managed to get about half of it recorded. One more evening MENU Eve saw us finish the recording, and then it was left up to team member, Nora, to cut and edit our efforts and include the musical snippets, for which we thank local resident Daryl Booth, MM team member Brenda Saker and Richard Spendlove MBE of BBC Local Radio fame, their efforts having helped break the monotony of our voices. No 77 Feed back from those who have received copies has been PIZZA-PASTA tremendous and we thank those who have spoken to us in the street Diane or emailed us to say how much they have enjoyed it. A special thank (01843) 823091 No 77, High St, Minster you also goes to Margaretta Smith, of St Mary’s Road, for her kind Wed - Sat (Restaurant)7.00pm - 9.00pm comments, and that gives us this opportunity to tell others that if Wed - Sat (Take Away) 6.30pm - 9.30pm Margaret hadn’t approached us last July at the Flower Show and asked if this would ever be possible it might never have happened. This however leaves us with the serious problem that if the first effort was really ‘so good’, then we are Nora going to have to work extra hard to ensure future issues are just as good or even better. Finally, I’d like to add my personal thanks to everyone who has been, or still is, involved with this project, in whatever capacity that may be, as without you this wouldn’t have happened, so thank you all so Andy very much. I really do appreciate just how great villagers are when I ask them for help, so very few ever say no whatever it is I ask of them, and that I consider is real community spirit. Long may it continue in Minster.

Village Receives A Visit From A Mystery Shopper Hello - most impressed with your village magazine, MM - packed with local ATHENA information and a future mine for historians!. I chose the last day of January to Nail And Beauty sleuth along to a well known store, battling against the gale over the station footbridge. Never met Ben or the Mr Patel named on my form, but the store was Salon very obliging, even offering me help when I looked a bit lost. We rarely get this Ÿ Ÿ Ÿ in any stores, so their marks were most positive. On to the library where I Tanning Waxing Facials Tinting planned to fill in my report. Obviously everyone is a computer buff in Minster Massage ŸManicures ŸPedicures Ÿ as every table had a PC on it, so I scribbled in an easy chair! In view of later Nail Extensions Body Wraps events it was a coincidence that I borrowed a humorous anthology called "Not Indian Head Massage Dead Yet!" It was not too clear which restaurants planned to open up for lunch, Lash Extensions but there was life and a welcome in the Gossip cafe - well placed for a drop in Gift Vouchers & centre I thought. The lady kindly said I could remain inside until the bus was Treatment Packages available due, but I wanted to take a short look round. All Major credit cards accepted Worth the 50p I might add! Calling at the public toilets. I inadvertently disturbed its alternative users, as the slightly embarrassed 70 High Street cottagers melted away. What does one say when disturbing them? I'm unsure Minster of the etiquette in politically correct times, but marveled at their all weather perseverance. I would have settled for a more substantial shelter waiting for the Ramsgate bus, but mused that those requiring dental attention across the road would be greeted by a pretty blonde. The bus came on time, carrying one passenger and a lost hat. Soon a man in a white van came the other way and The asked the driver if he had a hat on board. He had and passed it out his offside window to the interceptor, who said its owner had immediately missed it. I was delighted when I was contacted by the editor of your Minster Matters, Ray Owen, asking if we could correspond across the pond. I am Jo Day one of the editors for our church newsletter, Minster Matters, at our church. I am also the program administrator here at Yorkminster Presbyterian. My colleague, Billie Belue, is the office manager and co-editor for our newsletter. Yorktown, Virginia is located in the Hampton Roads region of the state of Virginia, on the east coast of the United States. We are situated between the James River, York River and the Chesapeake Bay. Our small geographic area boasts a population of over 800,000. The smaller area of York County where we are located has about 65,000. The families that make up our congregation of 700 members come from practically every walk of life. We are people, just like you, who come together because of mutual spiritual interests and con- cerns. Yorkminster is a family of Christian believers excited about being part of what God is calling us to do in the world and in our community. This month I would like to give a piece of my knowledge to all you new MS Vista users who might be confused by the Shut Down sequence that is set as the default, whereby after clicking the MS Logo (Start) Button you then have to ignore the Power Button, that if you’ve ever used any previous edition of Windows you would assume to be the “off” button, and instead move further across to the ‘arrow’ beside the Lock button and select Shut Down from the choices available. You can however change this so as the Power Button actual does shutdown your PC by using the following instructions to alter the program settings: 1. Open Power Options by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Maintenance, and then clicking Power Options. 2. On the Select a power plan page, click Change plan settings under the selected plan. 3. On the Change settings for the plan page, click Change advanced power settings. 4. On the Advanced settings tab, expand Power buttons and lid, expand Start menu power button, and then do one of the following: • If you are using a mobile PC, click On battery or Plugged in (or both), click the arrow, and then click Sleep, Hibernate, or Shut Down. • If you are using a desktop computer, click Setting, click the arrow, and then click Sleep, Hibernate, or Shut Down.
