Es decir, de cómo estas han ido cambiando en el ámbito de producción desde los años 90 hasta febrero de 2020. Debido a que en ese mes salió la última adaptación fílmica que tuvo reacciones positivas por parte del público y crítica, Sonic the Hedgehog. Este trabajo se enfocará en los Estados Unidos porque de ahí salen las adaptaciones más populares, y también las más criticadas, de los videojuegos; que posteriormente se distribuyen al resto del mundo. Muchos han intentado descifrar por qué en años como los 90 las adaptaciones de los videojuegos a películas y series eran pésimas en calidad de producción. Un ejemplo de esto plantea el escritor y youtuber Revilla(2011): “No puedes jugar una pieza cinematográfica”. Quiere decir que son medios completamente diferentes por la manera de interacción, una es pasiva y la otra es activa. Por eso es que no se disfruta de esas adaptaciones de igual manera. Sin embargo, los tiempos han cambiado y ahora existen series y películas de muy buena calidad como Castlevania de Netflix, Sonic the Hedgehog y Detective Pikachu.
