It does not matter whether you are here to look for work, or to join the rest of your family or to claim asylum. - ever- yone has a bunch of questions when arriving. The answers to questions regarding legal status and financial support are found in the Residence Act and the Asylum Seekers Act. Here we will provide you with the most important points of contact. The Residence Act The Residence Act regulates the matter of residency for those who live in Germany and do not hold the German citizenship. Due to the EU freedom of Movement Act, the Residence Act is of most importance for those holding citizenship from a country outside the EU or the European Economic Area (EEA). Some of the main points of the act: • Entry requirements and residency • Approval, refusal and repeal of residency permit • Deportation The Ordnance of Recidency (AufenthV) and the Employment Regulations (BeschV) regulate the Residence Act. It is also responsible for issuing passports, processing visas and the right to work for those coming from abroud. www.gesetze-im-internet.de/aufenthg_2004/ Asylum Seekers Act The Asylum Seekers Act (AsylbLG) regulates the material entitlement for asylum seekers, those with short term residency and those with foreign citizenships, those with ‘forced deportation’. What does that mean? Your status will determine the standard, financial and accommodati- 9 on benefits you are entitled to. Accommodation includes emergency accommodation, communal accommodation and apartments including also a single room in a shared apartment. The first 15 months of your stay, those who are entitled to receive standard benefits will do so in accordance with paragraph 3 of the Asylum Seekers Act. After that, you receive so-called „Analogleistungen“, which means analogue services to SGB II (Jobcenter) and SGB XII (social welfare). You find this regulation ni §2 of AsylbLG. www.gesetze-im-internet.de/asylblg/ State Office for matters relating to Refugees The state office for matters relating to refugees (LAF) is responsible for all those receiving support in accordance with the Asylum seekers act. It is also responsible for those who are still in the process of seeking asylum (Aufenthaltsgestattung), who are having a short-term residency (Duldung ohne Arbeitserlaubnis) or who are facing a forced deportation (vollziehbar ausreisepflichtig). The LAF has a department for financial support, rental concerns and a social service for people needing special protection. Many of you might know the LAF as a department of the LAGeSo, but now the LAF is its own institution. You can find it at Darwinstr. 14-18, 10589 Berlin. www.berlin.de/laf/ Federal Office for Migration and Refugees The Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF) is responsible for the procedure of seeking asylum and supports a variety of programs dealing with integration. In addition it is home to a research centre Information and Counselling und Beratung focussing on European cooperation concerning migration. The decision in the asylum procedure are made by the BAMF. The interview and the hearing will take place at the BAMF. www.bamf.de Foreigners Registration Office Every district in Germany and each bigger city has a Foreigners Regis- tration Office. They enforce the Foreigners Act. This means that they issue papers such as residence permits or papers which include the right to work or study, settlement permits, but they can also terminate your residence permit. If you are in the procedure of seeking asylum and you want to work, you must get the agreement by the Foreigners Registra- tion Office. The Foreigners Act is valid for all of Germany, but the Home Secretaries of each German state issue action points to their offices. www.berlin.de/labo/willkommen-in-berlin/ Office administrative issues - Where do I go to get what service? Berlin holds a variety of points of contact – depending on the topic and the responsibility. The administration is well connected. For all with a residence permit (e.g. holding an acknowledgement of entitlement to asylum, award of refugee protection, award of subsidiary protection) the Public Office (Bürgerämter) are responsible for many issues: service. berlin.de/dienstleistungen/. Refugees who are still in the procedure of seeking asylum can go to two special Public Offices for Refugees: service.berlin.de/standort/327539/. 11 Counselling Services You are looking for general advice and counselling? You do not know where to go with your concern? Here you can find the most important counselling services: InteraXion // Niederschöneweide • Welcome office for newcomers in Treptow-Köpenick. • 02.14 Groundwater Temperature (2014 Edition) Overview the Groundwater Temperature in the Berlin Metropolitan Area Is Permanently Anthropogenically Influenced
02.14 Groundwater Temperature (2014 Edition) Overview The groundwater temperature in the Berlin metropolitan area is permanently anthropogenically influenced. The temperature measurements of the near-surface groundwater of the State of Berlin carried out since the 1980s show that the average temperature has increased to a level more than 4°C above that in the thinly populated surrounding areas outside the city. They also indicate that this temperature rise is increasingly apparent even at depths greater than 20 m. Fig. 1: Schematic diagram of the factors that affect groundwater temperature The causes of the temperature rise are various, and are directly connected to the continuing structural developments and the existing uses at the earth's surface. There, the distinction is made between direct and indirect influences on the groundwater temperature (see Fig. 1). • Direct influences on the groundwater temperature includes all heat inputs to the groundwater through the sewage network, district-heat pipes, power lines and such underground structures as auto and metro-tunnels, underground garages, etc. • Indirect influences on groundwater temperature processes of urbanization connected with the change in the heat balance of the near-surface atmosphere. According to GROSS (1991), the most important factors are: • The disturbance of the water balance due to a high degree of surface imperviousness 1 • The change of thermic surface characteristics, such as surface heat conductivity and heat capacity due to surface imperviousness and concentration of structures • Changes in the irradiance balance due to changes in the atmospheric composition • Anthropogenic heat generation (domestic heating, industry and transport). These differences cause changes in the heat balance by comparison with the areas surrounding the city.

  • Altes Krankenhaus Staaken: the Metropolitan Park Information in Leichter Sprache

  • Artists Anonymous Gallery (AA)
A-Z Berlin part of <<3 months in Berlin>> by Artquest Artists Anonymous Gallery (AA) Located behind Hamburger Bahnhof Artists Anonymous Gallery is one of a cluster of six new spaces opened by galleries that are well established outside of Berlin, such as Haunch of Venison. All are spacious and industrial which offers freedom from the constraints of smaller gallery spaces. Also with a new location comes the possibility for experimentation; at AA you must find the way in through a muffling white fur-fabric cave. The space has been transformed into a den with a thick black beach of glittery sand covering the floor. Walls are clad with junk furniture, toys and all manner of trashy objects, including working TVs and fridges. The presence of these galleries in Berlin is interesting as they offer an alternative space for contemporary art, which is neither a commercial nor a national gallery. Bikes are important here. Berliners sing while cycling. It doesn’t really matter how old the bike is, when is comes to bikes anything goes here. Shops offer part exchange on second hand bikes, and it’s also possible to rent them. The flea markets are cheapest, you can buy one for about €50. It is worth taking your time choosing a good one though as not all the older bikes have brakes. Repairs can be a bit pricey so if you need any work done seek out a small un-flashy shop. Concealment Berlin’s streets bear the scars of a troubled past. The paving stones and the walls of many buildings are scarred by grenades and bullet holes.

SYMPOSIUM: THE CENSORSHIP OF LITERARY NATURALISM The of Censorship Literary Naturalism, 1885-1895: Prussia and Saxony GARY D. STARK has been written in recent years about the emergence of modernist culture in^w de siecle Europe and the resistance MUCH it met from cultural traditionalists. The earliest clashes be? tween traditionalism and modernism usually occurred in the legal arena, where police censors sought to uphold traditional norms against the modernist onslaught. How successful was the state in combatting emer? gent modernist cultural movements? Arno Mayer, in a recent analysis ofthe persistence ofthe old regime in Europe before 1914, maintains that: "In the long run, the victory of the modernists may have been inevitable. In the short run, however, the modernists were effectively bridled and isolated, if need be with legal and administrative controls."1 In Germany, the first stirrings of modern literature?if perhaps not yet of full modernism?began with the naturalists, also called the "real- ists," the "youngest Germans," or simply "the Moderns."2 Naturalists Research for this essay was made possible by generous grants from the National En? dowment for the Humanities, the German Academic Exchange Service, and the Uni? versity of Texas at Arlington Organized Research Fund.
