Malcolm D. Shuster Unprofessional Biography I'm really lucky to have me. Think about it; Without me, where would I be? This isn't a biography but a collection of tidbits meant originally to relieve the dull progression of facts in my professional biography. It is an enlargement (by a factor of three) of the trivia which I distributed at the symposium for me in June 2005. It is composed of interesting and amusing tales which, for the most part, say nothing about who I am, only a little about what is important to me, little of my great joys or my great heartbreaks, a bit more of the things that have made me angry. At best it is a heavily edited collections of things I might have related over drinks. Information on my romantic life has been studiously limited to minute oblique references. I have tried not to name names in any circumstances except in very innocuous cases. The result is probably not as funny as the original trivia, and closer to a true biography. However, keep in mind that most of the content of this document consists of anecdotes, and there is little information on the past twenty years of my life. Also, I have told you only the things I want you to know, and too much of that. I was born Malcolm David Shuster in Boston, Massachusetts, at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 31, 1943, to Russian Jewish immigrant parents who had each come to the United States as children, my mother (born July 6, 1913) in 1914, my father (born January 31, 1910) in 1920. -

A stout woman in a highly emotional condition would have been an incongruous companion to his slim, upright figure, moving with just that unexaggerated swing and balance becoming to a lancer of the old school, even if he has been on the retired list for sixteen years. Poor Betty! He thought of her with irritated sympathy--she need not have given way to tears on the door-step. She might well feel lost now Gyp was gone, but not so lost as himself! His pale-gloved hand--the one real hand he had, for his right hand had been amputated at the wrist--twisted vexedly at the small, grizzling moustache lifting itself from the corners of his firm lips. On this grey February day he wore no overcoat; faithful to the absolute, almost shamefaced quietness of that wedding, he had not even donned black coat and silk hat, but wore a blue suit and a hard black felt. The instinct of a soldier and hunting man to exhibit no sign whatever of emotion did not desert him this dark day of his life; but his grey-hazel eyes kept contracting, staring fiercely, contracting again; and, at moments, as if overpowered by some deep feeling, they darkened and seemed to draw back in his head. -

Classic Poetry Series Robert Browning - poems - Publication Date: 2004 Publisher: Poemhunter.com - The World's Poetry Archive Robert Browning(1812-1889) The son of Robert Browning, a Bank of England clerk, and Sarah Anna Wiedemann, of Scottish-German descent, Browning received little formal education. His learning was gleaned mainly from his Father's library at home in Camberwell, South London, where he learnt something, with his Father's help, of Latin and Greek and also read Shelly, Byron and Keats. Though he attended lectures at the University of London in 1828, Browning left after only one session. Apart from a visit to St Petersburg in 1834 and two visits to Italy in 1838 and 1844, Browning lived with his parents in London until his marriage of 1846. It was during this period that most of the plays and the earlier poems were written and, excepting Strafford, published at his family's expense. After the secretly held marriage to Elizabeth Barrett in 1846, Browning and wife travelled to Italy where they were, apart from brief holidays in France and England, to spend most of their married life together. In 1849 the couple had a son, Robert 'Pen' Browning, and it was Elizabeth who, during this time, was most productive. After her death in 1861, Browning returned to England with his son, where he achieved popular acclaim for his Dramatis Personae and The Ring and the Book. He spent the remainder of his life, excepting holidays in France, Scotland, Italy and Switzerland, in London where he wrote a number of dramatic poems, the two series of Dramatic Idylls (1879,1880) and poems on primarily classical subjects: Balaustion's Adventure (1871) and Aristophone's Apology (1875). -
