SUNDAY, 24 JULY, 2016 SNITZEL EQUALS 40-YEAR-OLD RECORD HIGHLAND REEL WIRES By Kelsey Riley THE KING GEORGE Leading Australian sire Snitzel (Aus) (Redoute=s Choice {Aus}) reached a significant milestone on Saturday when Bukzel (Aus) became his 30th 2-year-old winner of the season when taking a Newcastle maiden on debut for trainers Peter and Paul Snowden. That win saw Snitzel tie the record for number of juvenile winners in a single season for an Australian sire, held by Without Fear (Fr), which has stood for 40 years. Twenty-nine of those winners have come in Australia and one in South Africa: the exciting Mike de Kock-trained colt Heavenly Blue (Aus). Snitzel stands at Arrowfield Stud, where he will command a fee of A$110,000 this year, and that operation=s Chairman John Messara said, "Snitzel's progeny are precocious, but his 2-year- olds of this year have been something else; we're thrilled with Snitzel's achievements." • Enable Electric in King George Cont
SUNDAY, 30 JULY, 2017 The King George took on an entirely different shape as the ENABLE ELECTRIC heavy rain fell on already-deadened ground. Despite the Epsom Oaks being staged in a thunderstorm, the latest Juddmonte IN KING GEORGE sensation had it slick there as she readily turned back Rhododendron (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) on June 2 and it was even quicker as she completed the double in the Irish equivalent two weeks prior to this. Tactics were certain to play a significant part here, with her potentially tricky draw in seven leaving her vulnerable to early scrimmaging, but Frankie was happy to let her bounce out and put her head in front until Maverick Wave crossed over to provide the lead. With Highland Reel (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) for company as they ignored the pacemaker, Enable settled perfectly and had stablemate Jack Hobbs (GB) (Halling) behind along with Idaho as Ulysses travelled with his customary ease and Jim Crowley tracked their every move. Before the turn for home Highland Reel was the first to struggle, and as he laboured and Ulysses nipped up his inner Enable dominates a rain-soaked King George | Racing Post Idaho lost vital momentum, but Enable moved forward with Jack Hobbs and for a brief period a Gosden one-two was likely. WEDNESDAY, JUNE 16, 2021 SILVER GLEAMS WITH BROODMARE DISPERSAL ADDED TO FASIG JULY; ADDITIONAL ENTRIES TO BE HARD SPUN POLISH ACCEPTED Fasig-Tipton has added a breeding stock section to its upcoming July sales in Lexington, Kentucky. The company will offer 18 mares as part of the Far From Over/Fountain of Youth Dispersal. All will be consigned by Stuart Morris. The group of mares are property of a partnership supporting young stallion Far From Over (Blame). The 2015 GIII Withers S. winner had been standing at stud in California before suffering a pelvis injury early in the 2021 breeding season that took him out of service for the remainder of the year. The mares that had not yet been bred to him were shipped to Kentucky and bred to stallions there. Due to the circumstances, the partnership has opted to disperse of all its holdings. • Ulysses Late Dash for Glory in Saturday's King George VI & Queen
Ascot Racecourse Media Release for immediate release, Tuesday, July 25, 2017 Ulysses late dash for glory in Saturday's King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes (Sponsored by QIPCO) Ulysses, who re-opposes his G1 Prince of Wales's Stakes conqueror Highland Reel in the King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes (Sponsored by QIPCO), will be held up as long as possible in a bid to reverse the placings at Ascot on Saturday, July 29. Alan Cooper, racing manager to the Niarchos Family which owns Ulysses, said today: "In the Prince Of Wales's Stakes, maybe Ulysses thought job done when he hit the front, and we had to hold him up a bit more. "Jim Crowley did that when Ulysses won the Eclipse but even then he said to me 'I would have liked to have been more patient'. "As a horse matures, you learn more about him and what tactics he is comfortable with. A daring ride is the way it looks like." This was revealed today when QIPCO and Ascot Racecourse hosted a media event this afternoon ahead of the 2017 King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes (Sponsored by QIPCO), which is Britain's premier all-aged middle-distance contest and boasts a prize fund of £1.15-million. Ulysses is out to give trainer Sir Michael Stoute an unprecedented sixth win in the Ascot race, with his previous success coming with runaway winner Harbinger in 2010. It was Ulysses who provided Stoute with his sixth G1 Eclipse Stakes earlier this month when beating Barney Roy by a nose.

  • Newsletter 2021 Season
Newsletter 2021 Season “Dartmouth” by Grace. THE SHADE OAK NEWSLETTER: 2021 SEASON When Emma announced I was going into ‘Lockdown’ at the end of March I must admit I thought it was a little extreme, as I’m not normally locked away to produce the annual Shade Oak Newsletter until late November. However, I was swiftly made aware that this was a different kind of lockdown that has changed all our lives to a greater or lesser extent. Even when the eagerly- anticipated vaccines and improved treatments are available, its effects on the economy will be significant, as will its impact on the fortunes of horse breeders of all nations. So, much though I would like to pen my usual few words about stallions, mares, foals and the joys of breeding NH horses, before rushing outside to leap on my trusty steed, Sir Francis, to charge across huge hedges and daunting ditches, it just can’t be that easy this year. Instead, I must give whatever insights I can conjure up (sometimes I really don’t know how I do it!) into the implications of several new factors on NH breeding in this country - namely Covid, Brexit and the Great British Bonus. In doing this I will weave an ingenious thread of storyline, so I’m told, that brings them all together such that you will surely recognise not only the wisdom of continuing to produce NH horses but also of using British-based stallions located at - yes, you’re on the ball today - Shade Oak Stud! Here we go… THE EFFECTS OF COVID ON THOROUGHBRED BREEDING: WHY KEEP GOING? Covid almost had a drastic effect on the 2020 covering season falls was not hard to see… when the veterinary authorities initially decreed that vets could pay only emergency visits to studs; and routine scanning of From 2007 to 2009 the aggregate at Tattersalls November Foal mares for covering, post-cover washouts and pregnancy scans Sale fell by 64%, meaning a reduction of almost 10 million did not constitute emergencies.

Hopefully we Two-year-old Focus are set for a fruitful six months. Staff Profile: Head Lad Flat Focus: The Derby Photos Of The Month Trainer Talk At this time of year, the racing world unleashes a collective desire to pinpoint the likely stars of the summer. It is only natural to want to celebrate the very best, to consider that we might be in the midst of greatness, but sometimes this can be un- healthy, with good or very good horses afforded the status of exceptional in order to fill a void left by those who captured our imagination most of all. True excellence is devalued if we consider every Classic winner a great, and we must be careful of not falling into this trap over the next few months. While we may still stumble upon a 125-plus horse to headline the campaign, trials season has suggested otherwise, with the markets for both Guineas, the Derby and the Oaks given a real shakeup as many of last year’s stellar two-year-olds failed to live up to their billing.
