A guide to Getting Married at The Castle in Ravadinovo

This guide was put together in May 2016, having spoken to the Bulgarian Solicitors for the Castle at Ravadinovo, the British Embassy in and reference to the UK Government web site appertaining to British Nationals who wish to marry in Bulgaria.

The Documents You will Need: 1. Copy of Passport for both the Bride and Groom. 2. Copy of Passport for two Witnesses. 3. A Certificate of No Impediment (CNI) 4. Medical Certificate. 5. Municipality Declaration

The Steps: 1. Book the Date at the Castle for your ceremony as soon as you have decided upon it. 2. Decide upon two witnesses. 3. Within six months of the date of the wedding go to your Registrar and get a certificate of no impediment (CNI) to prove you’re allowed to marry. Valid six months (three months in Scotland) (You can normally get a CNI by giving a notice of marriage at your local register office or registrar in the UK.) Bulgarian Charm will send this to Bulgaria to be translated into Bulgarian by legal translators. Certificate of No Impediment (CNI) 4. Book the Municipal officials who will conduct the ceremony (at least 1 months notice). (The Castle at Ravadinovo will do this when The Castle booking is made) 5. Bulgarian Charm will send you an English version of the Municipality Declaration to complete and sign, Bulgarian Charm will send this to Bulgaria to be translated into Bulgarian by legal translators at the same time as the CNI. 6. Obtain and complete Medical Certificate upon arrival in Bulgaria, to verify your identity - no medical is involved (available from a Bulgarian stationery shop, valid for 1 month, this can be obtained on your behalf). 7. Your marriage will be conducted by the Mayor of Ravadinovo assisted by the clerk from the Municipality of Sozopol.

NB: The names on all documents you provide must appear exactly as they do on your passports - if not, the authorities may refuse to allow the marriage to go ahead. You may need to provide evidence if the name on your passport is different to your birth certificate (eg marriage certificate or deed poll).

Please note all weddings in Bulgaria are civil and conducted by Municipal officials, if you would like a religous wedding this would be done at the same time in addition to the civil wedding, please advise us of your faith so the correct clergy can be booked.
